12/08/18 Great trail! Rode it all the way from Apple Valley to Fawnskin. Plenty of big puddles, mud, and snow. Even with the snow it's a pretty easy ride, my stock 2018 Tacoma offroad 4x4 had no problems doing this trail. I had the family so we drove the extra 15 minutes to big bear had lunch and came down the mountain. Great day.

Went threw on my 2016 Tacoma sr5(2 wheel drive) just fine in the snow good trail

My husband and I have taken this trail up from Apple Valley to Fawnskin a few times. Once there was snow on the ground and had to throw it in to 4 high, but it was still a super great drive. Love this trail. Usually a ranger will hang out on the trail and if they think your vehicle can't make it then they won't let you pass.

Easy trail for off road. The hike to the top of the watching tower was great.

Great trail, highly recommend. We did it with a 2018 JLU Rubicon with 2” mopar lift, 37” KO2 tires and mainly used rear locker during rock gardens.
Recommend stubby steel bumper for clearance and damage control.

Amazing trail! Fairly easy for the most part, a few hairpins require some bit of skill. was able to complete this trail in a stock 2018 double cab off road edition with very little problems. would not recommend anything longer than a 5" bed.

Awesome trial! Beautiful scenery! If you’re looking for a challenge this is s must hit.

Amazing trip! It was my first “HARD” rated trail. Took it nice and slow, on my 4Runner. The lift is necessary. I feel the undercarriage would have taken a betting without it. Take the time to get out of your vehicle and pick a line (couple areas). It took me 4hrs with some sight gazing included. Do not attempt the “Short Cut” it does not exist. I checked. And it’s blocked off. You’ll see the white boulders on your way in. Would do it again!

Pretty view easy trail no need for 4x4 did it last weekend ended up at big bear lake

We took a wrong turn and turned it into an 8.2 miler...but still I think 6.8 is short. I think it’s more like 7.5.
Great hike. Very easy until the last mile which is a very steep uphill climb on a fire road. Beautiful view from the top.
For me, even though it’s longer, it seemed easier than the Gray’s Peak trail.

A really nice, easy trail. Two turnouts at the start for airing down and disconnecting sway bars and what not if you need. First half of the trail was a really mild and well maintained dirt road. After the first gate you see a little bit of wash outs here and there, some uncovered rocks, but nothing crazy. A vehicle with decent ground clearance and good tires shouldn’t have an issue. We saw a Stock Jeep JK at the ranger station, an old Isuzu Trooper and a few full-size 4x4 trucks.
There are many off shoots to other trails that lead back to campsites and great views. It you hang a left to stay on 2N13B and stick with it you’ll be rewarded with an amazing view and the ranger station isn’t far off from there.
This isn’t a John Bull or Holcomb creek style trail, this is an easy, Sunday cruise with amazing views and a few fun spots in areas where water has trenched the trail and uncovered small boulders and rocks. Totally worth the trip for awesome views and easy cruising.

Nice hike most of the way until the end where it becomes a very steep fire road. When you get to the top it is a very pretty view but not much room as if it covered with radio towers. Not quite the peaceful peak we had imagined. But there are some small trees so we hung the hammock and made the best of it watching a beautiful sunset.

Did this after we hit Clark’s trail. This was a breeze compared to that. Heavily trafficked. Great beginners trail.

This was technically our first trip up to big bear with using Clark’s grade. Very fun. And although marked easy, there are a couple of spots that are challenging. The people you encounter on the trail are so friendly. great for a beginner, Like myself. 2015 stock forester xl.

Nice trail. Started at Serrano camp ground. There is a tunnel under the road to the trail head. Nice view over valley after first couple miles. last turn to peak steep rocky access road. view from top worth the climb.

4 hrs at a relaxed pace great weather
72-78 dry, light breeze....
perfect day!
well maintained!
good training hike with great majestic views all the way, lots of open areas so might be cool on a cloudy day.
and butler peak is amazing and then the cabin on top
as if its designed that way....
This is when you say, everybody should hike every week
at least once!

A few challenging obstacles, but mostly a moderate trail. My 4Runner with 3" lift and 33s took some hits to the sliders and skids tho so I don't recommend for stock 4x4s. Scenic views of big bear lake and you end up in Holcomb Valley, which is great for camping.

Great run up to the ranger station with lots of off shoots to try some more aggressive driving. Did this in a stock JLU Sport with no issues. 4wd only once just in case. As others have noted, this is a forest service road however a few places that were washed out. All in all a fun time.

As an FYI, the ranger mentioned that the station will be closed for the winter as of November 18th so if you at going to make a run up, will have to be before then.

Fun drive and great scenery with plenty of places to stop and take pictures. Trail was easy terrain and never needed 4wd, but was in a lifted Jeep. Trail does get very rocky from 3N02 to the end. The end of the trail leads to a highway and does not require you to double back for exit.

Great trip in 08 JK sport unl., rear lockers a must in some areas. Beautiful up top.
Slow & easy is the only way. Respect roads & mph on way there.
Enjoy ✌

great way up to big bear. we were doing AAT service, some spots were badly eroded and need some backfill

Perfect trail for a first timer. Great time and technical at times. Will definitely come back.

One of the best scenic view in all of Big Bear Lake.

Drove this road in a stock Tacoma Off-Road. Only a couple sections where the 4WD was really needed. Lots of switchbacks and ruts. The view from the top was awesome. We had a really clear day and could see for miles and miles. If you’re in Big Bear definitely take this trail.
