Nice easy to get to hike. A good amount of people and dogs however on a Thursday morning. Still very enjoyable.

been there last summer. it was my first hike in Washington. the view was amazing but the hike was kinda hard and I don't recommend this to beginners

I love this hiking.

worth the trip down to the lake once you've "gotten to the top".

ALERT-- HI THEFT WARNING. Our vehicle was broken into while we hiked. They busted the car window out and when we started to look around it appears this is a regular occurrence here given all the broken glass in the parking area. The falls were beautiful and the hike was kid friendly.

Great hike. Gorgeous views!!

Awesome trail, but try to avoid it on weekends. It is literally the interstate of hikes.

One of the best hikes I’ve been on!

Start a little ways out of Eatonville, cross over railroad tracks. Great hike from TomTom Falls; the river was low, so we followed the river to the top of Little Mashel Falls. We went back up and around down to lower Little Mashel Falls great place to swim. Returned on a Wooded Trail above the little Mashel River.

Very easy trail. It had little elevation, but it was still a nice walk/hike. The lake is absolutely beautiful. Would do again.

Amazing, had such a good time

Firstly: to get to the trail you have to drive about 15 miles on lose gravel. If you have a small car, you will want to go slow unless you don't care to spend money on issues that could be avoided because it is rough. If you have a car that is high off the ground and has the appropriate tires, then you may not have to go as slow but just be careful. Otherwise, this trail is moderate with some strenuous uphill sections, but the distance makes it doable because it is not very long. Trail is well kept, easy to follow. I did not have any issues with bugs or mosquitos at all. I mean there were just a few of them but it wasn't like there were herds of flies following me, although at the tower I did spray some just a few times. This trail is BEAUTIFUUUUUL. The lakes are gorgeous and it is so worth the effort and the drive!! It is like a hidden gem.

Hiked today, 8/15

I got up to the parking lot early, around 7:00am and was pleased to see the parking lot wasn’t busy at all. There were only two other hikers going up at the same time. I got to the top in 1 hr and 45 min. and my Garmin distance clocked it at 4.8 miles, so definitely a little longer than this distance says. Like a lot of other reviews, I’d say it’s more moderate than hard. There are some rocks you have to scramble over but it’s not too difficult. Weather was perfect in the morning. Views were blocked by the smoke from the fires but it was still beautiful. Highly recommend for a quick morning hike! Wish I would’ve kept going!

This hike kicked my ass. Went when it was in the 100’s and it was humid. Went through my camel pack water and two water bottles before even reaching the top. Luckily a guy gave me a water and Gatorade because I had a panic attack and was crying because it was so humid. So yes bring LOTS of water. The hardest part was the last mile going up the rocks and probably coming back down because your exhausted. But the view is worth it. If you’re not in shape or don’t hike I suggest that you don’t do this as your first hike.

BRING LOTS OF WATER LOL

Absolutely beautiful hike with glimmering alpine waters, jagged snowy mountain tops and fluffy mountain goats. Beginner hikers may find it difficult because of the length and the rocky incline. The road to the trail has MANY potholes so be prepared for a bumpy ride! Get there before 8 on weekends because it gets busy!

Great day hike! For sure harder than I thought it would be. The view is worth it for sure!

Beautiful hike, it was very smokey on 8/14 so the views could be much improved on a clear day but still a great hike. The hike itself is moderate difficulty, I think what may make it harder is the length.

Tough hike but amazing time out there. Bring a trash bag for the way down.

Best trail I’ve been on in the PNW.
Not heavily trafficked
Easy to make a day hike (right amount of challenge)but worth spending a night to really enjoy the incredible views.
This hike offered breathtaking and changing views the entire time.
It is very exposed so bring sunscreen/ protection.
We ran into mountain goats!

The waterfall is about a mile and a half into the trail, and it did not disappoint. Pictures don’t do it justice to how massive it is. We thought that would be the highlight of the hike, but the meadows up in Spray Park itself were unbelievably beautiful. Even with the haze, Mt. Rainier still showed through and acted as the perfect backdrop to our time in the meadows. We didn’t see any wildlife, save for the absurd amount of mosquitos! The road leading up to this hike (and Tolmie Peak) has a few rough spots but overall is pretty darn passable for a gravel road.

Went up this past weekend; although it was cloudy the panoramic of the Cascades was still stunning! A favorite for sure. Quite a bit of bugs so bring some bug spray.

The views along the trail were incredible, despite the smoke hanging in the air from the wildfires in the region which obscured some of the more distant mountains. The drive up from Icicle road has some amazing views and road is in good shape. Parking permit is $5. Took two and a half hours to reach the lake from the parking area. Didn’t encounter many bugs. Views at the lake were stunning, the water was brisk but refreshing; definitely worth bringing a bathing suit!

While enjoying the view I was unwittingly recruited to take photos for a lake-side proposal. He picked a great spot for it! I wish the happy couple all the best!

Finally heathy enough to try this. It bugged me every time I drove up I-90 and saw it sitting up there. Did it last Saturday on a nice cool, but cloudy day. Got a glimpse of Chester Morse as clouds lifted for a minute. Loved the fact it was not crowded. Only saw about 10 people all day. I was slow up and down, including a clumsy stumble. Just a flesh wound, so nothing other than some scrapes and pride. Funny, my first thought was “did anyone see that” knowing full well no one was around.

Trail is not as well travelled as Mt Si despite their similar statistics. It has some more rocky spots, hence the stumble.

I’m not much of a repeat hiker, too many places to hike, but would like to do this again on a clear day.

So stunning and so beautiful :) I have been hiking the entire summer and yet this one absolutely took my breath away. This hike is perfect in every way - you have a beautiful views and mountains and green valleys all the way through, you run into mountain goats along the way and then you have an incredible pay off at the end with a stunning lake tucked in between a gorgeous basin. And no bugs to bother you. What else could you want?

Fun hike close to home. There were some steep hills that work your calves. We took our dogs and ran into quite a few people with dogs. Started this hike about 2 and it was moderately populated. There was a little bit of water in the waterfall.

We loved the hike and would recommend it to others. But we have a few words of caution. Though very beautiful, the bluffs and scenery were somewhat difficult to see due to so much smoke in the air from fires. Afterwards, I asked about the smoke at the nearby ranger station and the ranger did not know the origin of the fires causing the smoke. On our descent we ran into two families with kids aged about 4 to 10. The kids were struggling, especially through the rocky sections. I would hesitate to take young kids on this trail unless they're used to hiking a lot.

Fun hike! Not too difficult but enough uphill/roots/rocks to present a bit of a challenge (keep in mind, I moved here from one of those flat states in the middle, so you’re mileage may vary). It was a bit hazy today, due to wildfire smoke, but still a pretty spot! Hung out by the lake for a bit and only saw a few other people. Got to the trailhead about 10 and only four other cars in lot...lots more when I left at 1 (especially for a Monday, I thought).

Last four miles of the drive to the trailhead are on a gravel road...the road isn’t in bad shape but not fun if you already have to pee!

Arrived at 10 am on a Monday; only 2 cars in parking lot. Really nice views of river and forest. Will do again. Trail in great shape. Enough elevation change to be aerobic with no bugs. Very little water on trail, can easily hike in sneakers; suspect it's a different story earlier in season. As others have noted, access road needs grading, low clearance vehicles may have problems.

excelente montaña mucha adrenalina

Been there on Saturday 08/04/2018. One of the best hikes. Though it is little long hike for me, I enjoyed it fully because of few view points on the way. Trail is wide and good. The lake at the end is nice and easily accessible for swimming. Small parking area. I would go there again.
