We did this today and it was a cool and crisp day. The trail definitely gets more steep after the falls, but it's worth it to make it to the beautiful lake. Bring layers! Got hot on the way up from the exertion, but the lake area was very cold and windy. There was ice in places with some very slippery rocks near the top, which slowed our pace. I recommend poles for this very rocky trail.

One of the best hikes I’ve ever done. Challenging but worth it. Road is washed out so it’s 2 miles to trailhead. From trailhead you climb 3000 feet in right over 3 miles. At 3.2ish you’ll reach virgin lake, it was frozen over today (11/17). From virgin lake it’s all downhill to Blanca lake, about 0.82 miles. Snow was packed down but yactracks and poles were super helpful.

Good hike. Can be muddy in areas. Very well maintained trail.

We decided on this trail and we all enjoyed our time on the hike. Don’t stop at the lake keep following the trail and you will end up at a massive bolder you will want to see. Beautiful views make this a must do.. The falls are worth the extra steps.

Very scenic trail. Need good hiking shoes preferably waterproof. Cold at the top in November!

Highly-recommend trail!!! There are two trails separated when walking about 40 mins. The trail starts getting harder once u finish bridal veil and set foot to Lake Serene, because there are so many rocky switchbacks and the accumulated ice makes them much harder. Watch your steps, cuz the rocks covered with ice are so slippery, and my friend even slipped three times

This was overall a moderate-ish hard hike. Like the rest of the reviewers, recommend doing the bridal veil falls first. There’s a small loop near that takes you closer to the falls and then back. The trail starts getting harder once you finish bridal veil and set foot to lake serene. With 23 switchbacks in 2 miles, this is a beast of a hike. The only thing that makes switchbacks harder is rocky switchbacks. But the trail has so many treats with little falls all over, that distracts you from your screaming knees. Quite a few creek crossings as well. Lake Serene is absolutely mind blowing. Definitely hike up to the lunch rock once you reach the lake, it’s a better view of Mt Index and Serene. The hike back down was much more challenging, this time of the year. With the rocks just having a thin layer of ice, it can get really slippery. Took me a little under 6hrs. Started at 11:15am, got to bridal veil falls by 12:15 and made it to lake Serene by 2:30. Spent about 25 mins at the lake and was back to my car by 5:00pm. There wasn’t any snow.

Beautiful views of the Mountains. Some trees down over the path that are tricky to navigate. Really icy at the top and around the lake. The path around the lake isn’t an easy one, but worth the walk. Amazing pics!

Hiked Saturday (11/10). Lot was about 75% full when we got there around 9:30. We did this combined with the falls. Seemed like most people just did the falls. Please be aware that the bit where it opens up from the tree line, close to the lake, is very slick and you’ll see frost around. I busted my knee, several others slipped/fell. For me, this was definitely a hard hike, especially with the slick rocks, so be sure to plan accordingly and consider the time of year. We took about 50 minutes to get to the falls, about 2hr 15min to get to the lake, and 2 hours out. It took us longer than expected, at our usual pace I predicted 4-4.5 max.

This was the very first portion of the Pacific Crest Trail Larry and I hiked. Interestingly, I felt a sense of pride hiking the trail having read Cheryl Strayed book Wild and watching the movie. I understand she did not hike this far north on the PCT. It was beautiful and awe-inspiring nonetheless.

Very tough climb since it’s a steep incline the whole way up and Lots of bugs BUT worth EVERY bead of sweat for the view and experience. Make sure to plan for an hour or two to hang out once you reach the top to enjoy the experience.

Great trail, steep climb in the first 3/4 of the trail going up, but then levels out a bit to a short trek up before getting to the lake. As a marathon swimmer and relatively new hiker currently experimenting with hike-in/backcountry swimming, the elevation gain was definitely more grueling for me than others on the trail. Slow but steady with lots of water and breaks, made it to Minotaur and what a sight to see! Completely worth it where I enjoyed a wonderful half hour swim in the lake, 38F, beautiful underwater topography. Would be an ideal spot for dual day backcountry swimventure hitting up Lake Theseus on day 2 (don’t forget to go up to the ridge line to view that one). Overall great hike, very much worth it and will absolutely be back!

Rainy snowy hike to the lakes. The trail up to the lake is steep and muddy. It was lightly snowing at the lake. Little snow patches along the lake nothing that isn’t manageable. Tried to go up to labyrinth mountain but had to turn back 1/4 of the way to the summit just shortly after following the creek up just before the last push to the summit across a boulder field. There is a lot of snow up here and no sign of a trail. We had to use Gps most of the way past the lakes weaving on and off what we think was the trail. Crossing the boulder field was to dangerous as there was snow covering the rocks and we couldn’t see below. Didn’t want to risk breaking an leg falling between the boulders. Not much of a view anywhere since it was raining and snowing. Winter has come. Won’t be long before these lakes won’t be accessible till summer again.

Hiked Nov 3: NW Forest Pass needed, easy road terrain driving in, bathrooms at TH. Well-marked, slight incline/decline, trail was not slick, a few blow-downs, very very wet, sometimes feel as if you are walking through a waterfall while on the trail, although it was easy to navigate. Huge beautiful old growths and so many waterfalls, I lost count! Lake 22 was beautiful! Quite popular but not overcrowded. Can’t wait to come back in the Spring!

Great hike. Fairly easy. Boulder field towards the end was annoying but well worth it.

this was probably one of the hardest hikes i’ve done. it starts out flat for about a mile and then it’s just straight up the entire way. when you think you’re almost there you have about another mile to go. the basin was beautiful and gorgeous and while we were up there a person fell off the ledges of the hike and had to be airlifted out of there so i really suggest being careful when you’re up there! the hike kicked my butt but it was beautiful!

I havent hiked in 25 yrs.this was my 2nd hike in a few months an it kicked my butt.i do have some lung disease.but it was so beautiful an the scenery was breathtaking..

The Lake was so beautiful and not much traffic. Hike was not bad but too windy at the top. The fall colors are gone :( Still an awesome hike with many falls creek running along for most part of the hike.

Great hike. Got to the parking lot around 10am, it was getting full but found a spot easily (maybe because it’s near the end of the season). The hike itself was not terribly difficult. I’m a beginner and I found the incline manageable and the distance was fine. The hard part was the rocks and water! The trail is very wet and has a ton of parts that are super rocky. I wouldn’t recommend bringing young children. The lake wasn’t the most satisfying end-point, but the hike up to it was lovely and everything was very picturesque. I’d do it again!

This was a truly beautiful hike! Lightly traveled on. Wednesday in October. Not recommended for beginners or children just due to the rocky portion for about half a mile. I’d also recommend poles for this same reason. I though the lake was rather lackluster but it was nice to have a goal and a good lunch spot. Amazing moss and waterfall!

Went a few years back. Tough climb me and my friends went past Minotaur lake down to Thesis lake(the hard way) and tried to climb up the rock face to labyrinth mountain... almost died do not recommend what we did... stay on the trail!

Says it is hard. Feels more moderate. We did a round trip in 4.5 hours with an 8 year old including time chilling at the lake. It's always beautiful. I also didnt see any change to the scenery from the past summer's logging that shut the trail down.

Beautiful hike, to say the least! Breathtaking almost the whole way, In one way or another.Kicked my butt though.

Very steep, grueling climb, but the payoff was totally worth it. Minotaur Lake is beautiful and pristine... and just over the ridge to the right, an incredible view of Theseus Lake.

In dry weather, the trail is loose and dusty, and both myself and my dog slipped a couple of times. I imagine it’s all mud when it’s wet, so plan accordingly.

Did this hike back in the beginning of March. Still had lots of fresh snow on the trail, we were able to hike the trail without of crampons. maybe if we had it on we would have been able to go up quicker. But, it was doable without them. It was perfect that day, we got there around 7ish and the parking was already full, not crowded but it was full.

great trail that has a nice steady elevation.there are many rocks and streams to navigate around which can get a little slippery when things get really cold.

An absolutely amazing day for this hike. The colors of fall just popped everywhere along the trail.

The drive up to the trailhead was exactly as previous hikers have posted. You want a SUV of some sort to get through all those wild potholes. To consider this hike moderate I would say is definitely an accurate rating.

Fantastic weather and great view all the way to the melakwa lake !

We wouldn't recommend this trail until two things happen: First, the 6-mile road leading to the trailhead is in horrible condition with terrible potholes. It hasn't been maintained for years. Just driving the road added so much time to the day hike. Secondly, the trail is not well-marked, and twice we found ourselves off the trail. Markers need to be added.
