most beautiful but sometimes too crowded and unfortunately cars

does anyone recall where the sundial is located on this hike? its an old stone Indian sundial which is off the trail itself. I think its on the ridge part above Forest Knolls.

Just a heads up the trail map at the trail head is different than the one posted here, so pick one or the other to follow.

Saw some nice doggos!

The beach is amazing but I was somewhat disappointed by the trail itself. Very easy and convenient access though.

Was an easy hike, and good with kids as there is only one real incline. Took us less than 2 1/2 hours incl. a couple short breaks. The beach is a great place to stop for a break or lunch.

Absolutely beautiful hike! I will definitely be back in early spring to see the creek in action as well as the waterfalls and wildflowers.

This trail has it all - wonderful views, awesome gnarly trees, manzanitas, rocky creek bed, and beautiful Mount Diablo. I would classify this as an arduous ascent up the mountain for the first half although, to be fair I haven't hiked in a while so maybe it felt more intense for me then for those who hike regularly.

Great hiking particularly in early spring and fall.

Beautiful views. Love the foggy view and all the birds around!
The beaches is considered very dangerous in this area. Be careful!

Definitely a scenic hike. Had a lot of different pools to explore and involves a bit of climbing. Great for a quick trip to a waterfall.

Love this trail. It’s beautiful, mostly covered for rain or sun, dog friendly. Not a lot of parking but otherwise delightful.

Gorgeous and fantastic for pups.

Beautiful loop trail, well marked, with ample opportunities for additional loops to extend the hike. Not many people on it! A lot of vinegar weed (Trichostema Lanceolatum), a very pungently aromatic herb used by indigenous populations for medicinal purposes. Easy to access with moderate climbs.

Good uphill trail with progressive incline. There is no official parking lot or trail markers. You can park on the side of the road.
Trail length is 5.5 miles. View at the top is nice, although not the best.
The road is public with a few cars passing to watch out for on a few blind corners.

Beautiful trail with great views of the lake and nicely shaded. A little difficult to track the beginning of the trail but doable with using the all trails map and some spotty cell service. There's a great bench spot for a picnic not far from the end overlooking the lake. Bonus that you can bring dogs. Plenty of parking in October though I imagine it can get more crowded in the summer.

If you're an avid hiker, this is an easy trail. If you're new to it, moderate. Beautiful hike taking you through the forest of mixed trees of golden Aspen , pine and fur and alongside trickling creek and calming pools of water. Plenty of places to stop along the trail to hike in a little bit to have a picnic lunch by one of the many water pools.

The trail is not easy to follow but it's not hard to get back on when you realize you're going the wrong way. Just make sure the creek is to the right of you. As long as you can hear it, you're good. When you are almost to the falls, you'll be climbing up and over boulders. Make sure you have appropriate shoes that have good traction.

This trail is doable in runners or cross-trainers but the terrain is a bit tricky. Rocks, sticks, logs and one small part of trail where you're walking over a pooled water area covered with logs. I would recommend shoes that have ankle support. If you aren't careful, you can easily roll your ankles. I did this in trail running shoes and was fine.

Great hike! Perfect to enjoy the fall weather and color change. I’m new to the area so thanks to all the previous comments for the tips!

Beautiful hike!! The trail is very hard to follow but it doesn’t really matter, it is very difficult to get lost! Just follow the creek and you won’t get lost. This was a very fun hike, not too difficult at all and lots of area to explore. We ended up taking the very low creek/river bed back to the trailhead and it was a great way to take back. Beautiful and fun!

Super fun bouldering toward the upper part of the falls. The trail is not always real obvious, but you’re always in cell service and GPS works great. Lots of friendly people on the trail, too. The lower part of the trail is pretty shady and there are a lot of picture perfect places to stop along the way.

Hard to find the beginning of the trail. Lots of thistles. Great views. Would not do it again as very steep at parts and easy to fall.

Best in winter/spring when the falls are flowing. Trail is a little difficult to follow.
Views are stunning at the top.

If you’re going on a holiday or Sunday, i recommend parking downtown on Magnolia. The parking is free and it’s only a short walk to Piedmont and trailhead. Beautiful hike. Some steep parts but doable.

Was hard to follow at times. Loved the ability to stop and enjoy the water on the way back. Got caught in a little rain. Be careful! Rocks became slick pretty quickly.

It was beautiful, challenging and totally worth it!! You must make it to the top, the view is unbelievable. It was 6.70 miles round trip and elevation increase of 1680ft. .

Hands down one of the best places to see, super secluded and the views are spectacular. Once you get to sculptured beach you are rewarded with arches, caves, tunnels, lots of birds, whale bones and cool rock formations. My spouse and I did this with our 5 and 8 year old. Tired but we had a blast. It’s so beautiful you will not regret visiting this amazing hidden gem.

This is not a trail but a paved (public-ish) road that takes you up to the peak. There isn’t a sidewalk so you are walking on the road but there were hardly any cars when I walked it. I didn’t see a single other hiker on the way up or down. This was on an early Saturday morning.

Oh, and parking. There are some pullout spots that can accommodate a few cars near the marked beginning of the route. There is no actual parking lot that leads to any trail.

The view at the top is fairly decent, I would say if you’re looking to get a good workout hill climb, then you should check this one out. Takes about 1 hr to the top if you’re fairly fit, 45 mins back down for 1 hr 45 mins total.

Beautiful! One of my favorite hikes. You can either stop once you get to the falls or keep going and climb up to the top to Avalanche Lake and beyond. I’ve done this hike 3 times now and I will still keep coming back!

Very nice and quiet hike with hardly any traffic. Took about 3 hours at a reasonable pace with a few stops. Great views! Some areas have moderate+ gradient, especially around the Falls Trail loop. Better to go clockwise around this loop. The creek and waterfalls were all dry. Be prepared with hat, sunscreen, and plenty of water since it was a hot 90 degrees by mid-afternoon.

Beautiful dirt trail leading to the coast.
