Great trail! But yes, whomever rated it ‘easy’ must have been smokin dope. lol Definitely Moderate.

Closed Dec 1-March 31. Wish the app told me this after I drove 2 hours to get here!

Camped in cat gap trail and connected to John rock during the day trip, it was gorgeous! mostly uphill the whole last two miles so I'd rate it moderate, but so worth it!

Loved this trail. We did cat gap to johns rock. We wandered off a little bit to see the waterfalls we heard and it was beautiful. There were creeks to cross over and great view at the end. This is one of my favorites. I do think this should be labeled as moderate instead of east.

Nice hike. Lots of icicles this time of year still. The views on the bald are really nice however the power lines and cell tower are a distracting disappointment.

If the tower (knew it was closed) was open a 4 Star. Used the Dome pathway as a start for my hike to Andrews Bald. Up to the tower base, across the short section of the AT and down the Dome bypass to Forney Trail.

The reward of the Dome pathway is the VIEWS coming (4 Star) back!!!!!! Even the views from the parking lot are 4 Star!!!!!!

Love this place! Amazing views!!

Took the Cat Gap Trail to the top then the John Rock Trail from there back down. The trails are definitely moderate in difficulty and the view of Looking Glass Rock was awesome as well as a few other views if you take some of the short side paths. I will be doing this one again for sure.

More on the moderate side of difficulty. The trail could use more signage. You just can't walk up to the trail. You have to use the Cat Gap Loop to access it. There is one section that could be labeled difficult but it is only a short distance. The view is really great from the rock.

Stunning Views from the top!

Beautiful! The way to the trail was gorgeous and the views at the top were great. Short but steep.

Hiked this a few days after it snowed. The rock was covered in some places with ice and snow. There were places to climb down safely to get a better view. Great views of Looking glass rock and the parkway.

Being a native of Asheville N.C. I have always seen this mountain from afar everyday but have never set out to summit it. It was worth it. The views on a clear day are spectacular. I highly recommend for hikers of any skill level.

Great, short hike to a bald mountain with incredible views. Our pups loved it! Only regret is that we didn’t bring lunch and games to hang out longer at the top!

Great trail but the signage is terrible and John Rock trail loop actually starts as the Cat Gap loop trail. Also, I would rate it moderate instead of easy. Great views!

Nice easy scenic hike.

Next time I go, I am taking a lunch and having it on the Summit. Nice grassy area and a good view, Have Fun!

I would say this is a easy trail it is short and completely paved

Not sure I’d call this a hiking trail. This is a tourist stop. 1/2 mike up a paved pathway. Lots of people. Parking is crazy. The lookout is great. Highest point in the Smokey mountains and highest point in Tn. My son was 8 and thought it was cool to be higher than clouds. Actually, we was in a cloud part of the walk.

Great day hike!!

After a January snowfall and subsequent melt the trail to the summit was gooey mud. However, the wintertime views from the meadow summit were well worth the slog, especially the view down the gorge to Lake Lure. We hiked back down the road, much quicker and easier, alongside sheets of ice and massive icicles extruding from the roadside rocks.

Craggy Pinnacle offers some wonderful 360 degree views from atop the lookout. As it is a shorter hike many people from out of town like to stop in while driving along the blue ridge highway. If it is windy, or the weather isn’t looking nice, keep in mind there is little protection. I live close to Douglas Falls so I actually hike from the Barnardsville side at Douglas Falls and cut through to the pinnacle trail. If you have the time hike down to the Falls!!

Awesome scenic trail, would definitely rate it as moderate, the incline doesn’t last too long, but it’s pretty steep. Also, pleaseeeee be careful of ice on the mountain when you go to see the view! A lot of little creeks to cross over so be prepared to get a little wet.

Awesome views

LOVE this trail! It’s not too hard and the end view is beautiful, the tower is amazing! Totally worth it!

Well maintained trail with incredible summit views.

Great hike. Family friendly.

Wonderful, short and steep. Great views all seasons. Note, visitor center and bathrooms were closed

Short hike with beautiful views

I have hiked this trail many times and during different seasons. It is especially beautiful when the rhododendrons are in bloom.
