South side accent is very steep and difficult. North side is not near as steep.

This hike is rated as moderate, that is inaccurate. This is a hard , quite challenging hike. There is probably close to 1 full km of scramble to get to the top. I would definitely rate as hard.

This trail is stunning! You’re constantly popping up on beautiful viewpoints of sooke and all the different ones are so amazing! The trail is well marked only in sections, there are a few places I really had to refer to this app to follow the trail as suddenly you won’t see a trail marker anywhere. Keep your eyes peeled for the faded little tapes in the trees and be aware of your direction in this hike =]

1.5 hours up and down. Has good views and excellent features. Can be rather technical at points for the inexperienced. Definitely worth a trip during the Salmon Run, but good luck finding a parking spot! Watch for slippery flat rock surfaces. There are many flat features and on the downhill it can be a bit sketchy.
My dog took a spill, shes 4 and is new to the terrain and she had to be shown some routes and lifted up and down at points.

You can also start at the Harrison Trail - parking at the first gate to Sooke Potholes. Going up the washout and crossing the Goose Trail. It is a 5 hr round trip and can be very wet in the rainy season. Most of the washouts are then creeks you'll be walking in - 4-5 times. Views are well above average - No leashes required for you pup. Not a Provincial park till the last 15 mins

Didn't see a single other person. Well maintained trail way to follow

Great loop although should be marked moderate throughout and difficult on coastal parts. The first 15 mins to Iron Mine Bay is flat and very accessible but the coastal trail involves some scrambling and two thirds of the walk is in the forest and also has lots of steep up and down sections and uneven footing. If you are moderately fit you can easily do this hike at your own pace and take rests but you do need good mobility. We done it in two and a half hours including breaks but we walked briskly. Enjoy and make sure you wear proper footwear especially in winter.

I feel this trail is definitely moderate. Starts off easy and about 30 mins in the difficulty increases. I took Quimper Summit Trail on the way up and the way down took Quimper Connector and Sooke Mountain Trails and it took me just over 3 hours. I recommend hiking that route in that order as the quimper trail is a good hike and the sooke mountain trail looks like an old gravel road. The trails in my opinion follow a semidry stream/river bed so its quite rocky for a good portion of the hike but its very clear and easy to follow. There are trail markers everywhere you would need one and they are very clear with direction. Parts of the trail were submerged so prepare with good boots or to venture off the pathway! You dont need hiking poles but they were useful.

Beautiful views at the top and several viewpoints on your way. This trail is essentially all at an incline on your way up but otherwise not very technical. Make sure to bring hydration, and I would recommend bringing a small lunch too! Took us about 3 hours in all (including time taken to eat at the top).

Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a solid hike.

Trail is well maintained and very easy to follow. Great views at the top

Great hike... but the coastal trail section should be ranked as Difficult!! Saw some seals fishing in the algae, beautiful scenery - especially on costal section. Also a great leash free hike for well behaved dogs! Good shoes required for some sections.

Great hike ! Parking lot packed. Lots of nice friendly people and lots of dogs. Watch your footing on this one. Beautiful white sand beach to start and majestic ocean scenery and rainforest. Fairly easy hike. Got to love Vancouver Island !

The start of the trail is a gravel/dirt road. There's not much to see until you get off the Sooke mountain trail and transition over to the Juniper trail. It will roughly take 30-45 min to get off this road.

The incline is very consistent. It does get quite a bit steeper as you get closer to the peak. However this change in gradation is very short.

Route via South Shawnigan Lake Road does not exist anymore. Roads are closed .

Scenic coastal route one way followed by a forest path and road back to the parking lot. Very enjoyable and not too difficult, as long as you're prepared for navigating amongst roots and rocks one way and elevation change the other.

fantastic trail. lots of loop options

An easy walk/hike once you’re on the pipeline. Gorgeous scenery and very few people. One of my favourites.

Read the reviews! I did this hike back in 2016 with my husband and my brother. It is one of the best day hikes I’ve done in Canada but it wasn’t easy as many of these reviews have also stated. I’d say moderate to difficult. It is also a 10 hike along the coast. We had a gorgeous spring day for this and I have terrific memories of blue skies, sea life and the sound of crashing waves. A very memorable hike! Shout out to the blog ‘HikeBikeTravel’ for this most excellent suggestion.

A bit more then 12 k but the view is nice at the end

it was ok for a short walk. easy going. but not very interesting. the picknick area not great either.

Challenging but not too long. Just right for a few hours. Great views!

Was a really pretty quick hike. Gets challenging in parts, but a good work out and views. Took us an hour to do the 2.5 mile loop to the summit and back.

amazing day hike. I like to do side trips up to the old iron mines. lots of sea life to sea and historical petroglyphs. a must do

Not sure why this is getting such great reviews. Maybe cause this is as nice as it gets for the island? I live on the mainland and lots of the hikes I’ve done are spectacular. Anyways, this wasn’t hard imo, pup and me got to the top pretty quick but the view wasn’t too impressive so we didn’t spend any time at the top.
