Was a beautiful winter day , tons of snow on the ground and easy hike in and out. The lake was the perfect size. Will be great swimming spot for summer . And also can see snow bowl ski slopes from the lake and see the mountain. The trail was well marked . Little steep in some spots , other then that an easy hike .

Nice trail!

nice trail, it was cold and windy heading up the mountain.

So pretty in the fall! Great view at the top. Great hike for kids (7, 5, 5, 5, 3).

Perfect day. The stream was rushing wild. Needed more time to explore the lower falls. Foliage was past peak but still spectacular!

For the young and young at heart. Trail is moderately difficult and more difficult the closer you get to the peak. But once you’ve gotten that far, you just have to go for the prize.

Gorgeous gorge!

Got to be in pretty good shape !!! Not a beginners trail!!! Great hike !!!

Trail has been relocated near the top (after the upper Jenny/Ratllesnake intersection), adding 1/3 mile in each direction, winding up towards the Oak Ridge trail then back to the cliff overlook. New section is fairly steep, and was a bit slippery when I visited. Still, a great payoff at the end with amazing views of Lake Dunmore, Silver Lake, the Moosalamoo woods, and the Champlain Valley.

Coming up from the parking lot the trail is wide and well maintained. It's a steep climb the first 1.5 miles but not hard. We started the loop headed west around the lake. Between mile 2 and 3, the trail gets pretty primitive. At times it's hard to find the trail and ended up hiking over very rocking terrain. I feel like this route doesn't get a lot of traffic. Once you round the far end of the lake the trail gets better. By mile 4 or so you are back on the wide maintian trail. We started hiking around 9:00 am and had the trails pretty much to ourselves most of the time. By 11:00 when we were headed back to the car we passed many hikers heading up. The parking lot was full when we got back to the car. All in all, it was a great hike and I would definitely do it again.

Nice trail for a day hike. the trail itself is actually slightly more than 5 miles.

This would have been a 5 star rating if there had been a few more open views of the lake. We took advice from previous reviews and did right side (over dam) first. First half of loop quite challenging underfoot. Completed in under 3 hours despite recent hip replacement.

What a beautiful hike

Fun hike for any age and dogs :) not to difficult so even our older pup can do the hike.

That’s show biz, baby!

Very nice! A perfect short trail ☺️

Loved this hike! Went up the Halfway House Trail to Long Trail then down Sunset Ridge. Long Trail was along the ridge so the views were incredible. The hike wasn't that hard. It was perfect fall hiking weather (~55 degrees) and it was pretty crowded at the top. The views from the top were incredible!!!

Was a lot of fun. View was incredible.

I hiked this one yesterday and I have to say it is one of my favorite trails so far. It is a great day hike. Unfortunately I wasn't able to see the view at the top due to the fog or see the plane wreckage but I can't wait to go back for the full experience.

Great hike! The trail is much wider than other trails I’ve been on. Not too steep.
The summit is amazing. There is a giant flat concrete slat at the top that gives amazing views and is a great place to hang out and have lunch with friends.

Love this hike! Went yesterday with my 4 big dogs and had a blast. Very dog friendly off leash trail as long as your pup is well socialized and under your control/has good recall. It rained the first 2.2mi up Jerusalem trail til we hit the LT. We went north briefly to hit up the Glen Ellen shelter so I could change, then back on to the LT and went south to the Mt. Ellen summit. The sun had emerged and the views were beautiful but do know it’s not quite a 360. Sugarbush resort’s summit chair lift tops the 4,082ft. With the detour, we ended up going 9mis. Definitely recommend; usually not a heavily trafficked trail. Parts are challenging/steep but there are plenty of flats to help break up the incline. Go enjoy!

Awesome payoff at the top, the views were amazing. I did Rattlesnake both up and back. I think the mileage is off however, they have rerouted the trail and added several switchbacks, the signs say is 1.5 miles from the falls, it was closer to 2 miles from the falls to the Vista points on the cliffs-so worth it however!!

great trail for bringing my dog. gorgeous views at the top. went on a hot day so when we got back we went over to Danbury Park for a swim. will definitely go again!

Totally worth the view up top! I didn’t make a loop, just went up and stayed left. Curious to try again and see if I can make a look up top.

Very easy walking trail. We read all the poems. Our first poem reading hike. My dog enjoyed it too. Only saw 2 other people on the trail.

Incredibly dangerous with the wet boulders. I slipped ~10 times myself but didn't fall nor get hurt. Be cautious!

Fantastic hike. Stunning views at the top.

Great hike with our dog on 9/2/18. The views from the top were spectacular. Took us about 2.5 hours.

We did the sunset ridge trail out and back. Decided not to do the loop once we got to the top. It was a great hike! More challenging than we were anticipating.
