Great hike!!

Beautiful! A little bit shorter than I had hoped. Great view from below and above!

Was a challange for my crew but we made it to the top was so worth it!

It's an easy, short hike with decent changes of scenery and a nice view from the firetower and an overlook at the top. I encountered few people on the trail on a summer Saturday, but quite a lot of feces, seemingly both human and dog. Pretty disgusting and more than I'd ever encountered on a trail before.

Great trail with amazing views at the top. Kinda steep at points but doable if you’re in moderately health and shape. Plenty of kids and elderly were doing it

This is a great 2 hour out and back (plus whatever time you spend at the pond). Lots of dogs on the trail. If you do not use the coordinates from AllTrails to find the trailhead BEWARE - Sterling Pond is NOT in Underhill State Park (even though that’s what this page says!) I used my car’s GPS system since I didn’t have phone reception and I ended up at the Mt. Mansfield trailhead after setting Underhill State Park as my destination (both the Mt Mansfield and the Sterling Pond trailheads are on roads called “Mountain Road” so you might think you’re headed in the right direction but you’re not!). It took 30 extra minutes to drive to the Sterling Pond trailhead. If you’re not using the AllTrails Coordinates to get there, make sure you’re taking the road that takes you past Smuggler’s Notch Ski Area.

Gorgeous hike. We did this in fall with the foliage so everything was doubly pretty. Highly recommend doing Clara Bow trail loop from the lodge. It is nice and quiet there.

We did this in full foliage in mid-October. If you start early enough then you would witness two seasons. Fall at the bottom, winter at the top. It was freezing up there but so worth it.

We did this in mid-october in full foliage. Outstanding and highly recommend it. I could see moon in the daylight up top!

This trail was tough- straight up scaling up rocky terrain. Pond was pretty with ducks. Humid.

This is trail is beautiful and really well maintained, though rocky and relatively steep. Though there is water close by and on a rainy day it could be slippery, on our dry July day it was just fine. We spent a night at Butler Lodge were able to link up with other trails for extended hiking. Butler Lodge holds ~14 people and apparently is never in threat of filling up. You don’t need to reserve ahead of time and it costs $5 per person. There is water that needs to be filtered and our dog was able to spent the night with us. Highly recommend this hike!

It is a beautiful and open view almost the whole way. It was challenging and at times a little scary for me because of the high and open view to the valley's below. So very worth it!

Great drive up to the notch. Absolutely beautiful. Then a nice hike up to another beautiful spot!

I would do this trail again, definitely a challenge and so beautiful, took the fire tower trail up and the ridge trail down, the hike up was exhausting but doable and the way down was really nice, steep at times but relaxing environment

Great hike! It was so crowded the day we went though. I highly recommend the loop around the lake for a much less crowded walk. The trails are well marked. There were several dogs off leash at the lake if that bothers you, you’ve been warned.

Great trail! Was very humid Friday which added some difficulty just in terms of comfort but the trail was great. Took the short, steep trail to the fire tower which was basically a steady incline up to the first outlook which had great views. The rest of the way to the fire tower involved a higher incline with a few places of hands and knees climbing. The fire tower offered amazing views high enough for significant temperature drops and wind but was beautiful. Took the ridge trail back which was wooded throughout. Balancing rock was neat to see.

Nice waterfall . Easy to get to!

great views from the fire tower. Don't forget the Balancing Rock for photos.

This was an awesome hike!! I loved the way the terrain changes several times. I conquered my fear and climbed the fire tower.

I rated this as a decent outing because the falls are nice and refreshing. This is NOT a 2.9 mike hike. It is a little under a half mile to the falls.

All around great trail. Near the summit may be somewhat challenging for young children in that quite steep and very rocky

A steady uphill, but short and totally worth it for what’s at the top. The pond is beautiful, great for a dip for you or your pup at the end. Dogs can be off-leash. Also if you keep hiking past the pond you get to a chairlift where you get awesome views of Smuggs and beyond down below. This trail also connects to the Long Trail so you could extend it as far as you want to.

I love this hike so much, a good medium in-between... great to do when you’re feeling like hiking but not necessarily feeling like climbing an entire mountain, yet the views up top are incredible. You can see all the way out to Champlain lake. This trail is also great towards the end of winter. TIP: if you want to get up to the views but don’t want to hike all that much, there’s an even shorter trail to get to the top. Coming from Stowe, before you reach the trailhead, there’s a road off to the left called Pinnacle road, drive all the way to the top and there’s a small parking lot. Cuts the hike in about half!

Beautiful views from the top. I'm an infrequent day hiker. I wouldn't call a 1500 ft climb in 1.5 miles "easy".

If you're just interested in the view, park at the Stowe Meadow trail head and save yourself 500 feet in elevation gain.

Amazing trail although the tower was too high for me to climb lol

The hike for me was pretty challenging but definitely worth it to see the pond and then to go a little further past the pond for the view. I’m in my late 50’s and in reasonably good shape and found myself having to stop a few times along the way to catch my breath. I think the length of this hike made it a doable hike for me. Definitely want hiking shoes or good tennis shoes to hike this trail because a lot of the time you are climbing up natural stairs of rocks and tree roots and yes you are climbing most of the way so don’t forget your water!

Awesome view at the top and a great hike

NOT 2.9 miles. More like a 5 minute stroll from the parking lot and then BAM ... you’re in a pristine medieval forest that looks like a movie set. The falls are splendid, but make sure you enjoy them from above as well as below. From the top, the dangerous and gorgeous views of the slot canyon below are a must see. Who knew this was just off the highway? Now you know. Put it on your short list of things to see in the Stowe area.
