Great walk, muddy in places but it is Oct so to be expected! Views of the river were lovely. Easy parking and lovely tea room next to the carpark too!

Lovely walk quite a few inclines next time would go anti-clockwise wise to avoid as many. Be warned very muddy and slippy despite no rain so good footwear recommended. Lovely pub half way round.

The directions were extremely accurate so thanks for that. The walk itself was pleasant but at this time of year very muddy. The walk through the housing estate was fine. The part walking on the road was ok and our dog is nervous around traffic but it’s a quiet road.

The beginning was confusing due to temporary electric fences en route but we did find the correct stiles etc and all had dog access which was perfect. We then followed the river until just past the 3 K point where we encountered a field with ‘cows’ in it. Both my dog and I are well used to walking calmly through cows and he was on a very short lead. We were then charged and only just made it across to the gate and safety. A local couple were waiting there and they said they were doing the same route as us but from the opposite direction. Both decided not to risk the cow field as they were actually Bullocks who were dangerous especially towards dogs. They charged en mass to such an extent that they left the river and ran up the embankment to charge towards us. A nice route but be very careful re the bulls. This was written one week after the deputy head of Richmond school was killed by cows in similar circumstances.

Nice walk to do if it’s been reasonably dry weather as can get muddy under foot.

Lovely walk. Car park takes cards. Very dog friendly - no impassable stiles and lots of river side beaches for getting a drink on a hot day.

Lovely walk but not really dog friendly as described on the app. Majority of the walk is through farmers fields with sheep on them, so had to keep my dog on the lead. Was hoping for a walk where she could be let off as route was described as being dog friendly.

pleasant walk a little slippy after the rain but lovely all the same, sat on a seat near the river at 4.6km and saw three kingfishers made our day

Great walk. The kids loved paddling and swimming in the river. The Gardeners Arms pub is lovely with a big beer garden.

A pleasant walk around Castle Howard gardens. Plenty of old buildings, wildlife and monuments to see. There is a bit of a country lane but I only saw one tractor so it wasnt an issue. My dog was off the lead for all of it with a bit of a river to dip into at the end. Little shade so she needed it! I would recommend parking at Coneythorpe as mentioned by someone else there is no parking where the Sat Nav takes you.

Good walk, got a bit lost at one point as I lost signal - screen shot directions. Pretty views but no dog poo bins along the way. Ended it in the pub - worth it !

Really enjoyed the walk, especially the river section, as others have mentioned would recommend doing in reverse and stopping at “half way pub”.

Lovely little walk through the city. perfect mix of urban, historical buildings and greenery. Very busy for the most part so it's not the quietest, peaceful walk but the history of the city makes up for it. Great way to quickly look around York if you're in the area.
