Didnt go all the way as we got tired when stopping by the scenic viewpoint.
It’s is a mainly up hill hike. But it is a dirt road you will follow the whole way and make sure to continue a little bit past the dam to the lake. It is beautiful! It is also cool to see they dam and see hydro power at work. Nothing like clean energy!!!
It was decent. All road hiking. Pretty lake
Trail was plenty wide but there was not much to see except for the dam at the end of the hike. No wildlife sighted
I would consider this Hard. To be honest, I consider myself to be slightly less than average shape so that factors in. You are going to climb for much of the first mile. it is very beautiful though. unfortunately we did not complete..about 500 feet from the lookout was a bear...he wins. Still, not a bad hike.
Some steep spots leading to a nice view. On a gravel path the whole time. Saw some pretty fresh looking bear poop so be careful.
Amazing hike! We hiked on July 4th and had incredible weather. A few steep hills, but views at the end are definitely worth it. We had 4 bald eagles soaring 10-15 ft above us, and were able to spot some sea otters and sea lions on our way back down. Highly recommend!!
Not a bad trail, but you’re following a power line road the whole time, so not too exciting. The views aren’t great, but the dam and lake at the end are beautiful!
Amazing views!! Hot sunny day, lake was fun to get into and cool off.
This has some pretty steep climbs but the views at the end are worth it. The trail is wide the whole time as it is an access road (I believe). Bugs weren’t that bad but we did spray ourselves pretty good with bug spray. Definitely worth taking the small turn to the left after the bridge to see the look over for the Port of Valdez. Finishing the hike with the waterfalls, dam, and lake was worth going up. Bring either water shoes or something to dry feet off as it feels great to put your feet in the lake after hiking there. Although if you don’t mind cooler water you might even like to jump in as most of the hike is in the open and if it’s a sunny day you’ll be really warm. I was wearing a buff on my head and got it wet at the waterfall and it really kept me cool. If I would have realized that I may have wet it quite a bit earlier in the hike.
Great trail. Steep hiking up but cruise down! Went on up to the dam and reservoir and it does not disappoint.
Easy and fun family friendly option. The bridge is very cool! Lots of moose and bear signs. We accessed via side road near mile marker 20 by river, across the road from the 3 cabins and pipeline maintenance area and quarry. Very easy hike up to the bridge.
Great couple hour hike! Not that far from town, wide gravel trail, beautiful views. Does get steep at times to yield a good hamstring burn. There is a viewpoint trail that overlooks Valdez and a trail that gives a great view of the dam. Would recommend! Not too muddy or buggy in October
I read up about this Trail beforehand (both on AllTrails and other sources) and everyone said it was steep then leveled out. It was definitely steep at parts. So steep that some family members turned back. There were also a lot of black flies when we were hiking. You’d just be covered in them. It’s a cool trail, very well marked, wide trail, easy to hike with a group...but it’s steep at parts. There are wild blueberries and salmon berries along the trail, which is fun. We were hiking with our three kids ages 1, 3 & 5. Make sure you have your bear spray. We saw a bear. Be prepared and you’ll enjoy.
Great little morning walk. The trail follows a service road the entire way. After the bridge there is a three way fork in the road. Stay left for the view point and right for the dam. Do not continue straight.
short, enjoyable hike. definitely beneficial to have microspikes. very icy.
Greats views and a great place to be next to a large glacier.
