We did this hike with our dog last weekend and it was amazing! We got there at 7:30 am on Saturday and got the last actual parking spot in the lot, so definitely get there early. We did the trail up and the fire road back. Trail is definitely more difficult but it’s fun for the way up. The views at the top are absolutely amazing and definitely worth it!

Nice trail. Lots of stairs in the beginning but after the stairs it’s not too bad. We’re not in the best shape but we’re able to handle it just fine but it was tough. Saw a variety of people (kids, elders, runners) so it’s really not that hard of a trail.

Views at the top were very nice as were views of the falls on the way up. We went on a day it was a little rainy and it was a little slippery (wet rocks and wet leaves) but very doable even if the weather isn’t ideal.

It’s an out and back and my Fitbit clocked in just over 4 miles for the whole thing so I don’t think the distance is accurate on here.

Bring $3 for parking and ladies bring toilet paper if you plan on using the restrooms at the parking lot.

Fun trail with beautiful views! I recommend getting to the summit just before sunset to view massanutten in it's blueish silhouette glory.

Great hike - beautiful views! Does take some effort to get to the top but the views are a worthy reward! BE AWARE - we just hiked this 11/11 and the upper third of the trail is covered in ice and is veryyy slippery and quite dangerous!

Beautiful views. We took the fire road up and back. Overall took just under 4 hours with breaks and time at the summit. Very crowded in the parking lot, so make sure you get there early so you don’t have to park on the side of the road and get a ticket as I saw others getting.

Good hike for a day trip. We took the fire road up and down because it was easier. I overpacked and should have only carried extra water snacks/food, and layers of clothes. It took is 3 hours or so up and back. Rested at the top for an hour. Beautiful views from the top. The rest of the route had limited views. I got a parking ticket for parking on the side of the highway since the lot was full ($15 fine). Pretty crowded on the trail.

well maintained trail with easy access from the parking lot. Took about 2 hours each way with minimal difficulty and plenty of photographs. The ridge above the main trail is worth walking. Once you make it to the overlook you won't be disappointed even in foggy conditions!

Loved it! I went for a sunset hike in October during peak foliage and it was beautiful! Lots of pretty scenery and rock formations to climb on. Sunrise would be better because the rock at the top faces east. But still super incredible!

My Husband and did this hike yesterday. Though you can hike under a mile to the summit, we decided to do the loop. Which I’m glad we did...it allowed us to be away from people and to absorb nature. I’m happy I used AllTrails because the trail/tree markings weren’t the best and we went off the loop trail a few times. (Another adventure so we didn’t mind). The trail was rocky but it was a lot of fun. There are different lookouts in the the loop trail that were intimate and quiet. When we hiked to the first lookout (lower rock lookout) a bunch of people emerged from the opposite direction. They ran in front of us and started posing for pictures. The top rocky view (not summit) was the best lookout of the entire hike. It’s priceless and you won’t regret it. Very rocky though. The summit view wasn’t my favorite of this hike. The touristy “hikers” ruined some of natural components of the view by taking countless Instagram pics. Definitely a great hike, suggest hiking it week days to avoid rude people and to hike the loop to enjoy some downtime with nature.

Great early November hike. We missed the fall colors. Was pretty icy on some spots. I was surprised to see the number of small children and infants on this hike. Would not recommend small children on this hike. Also, their is some climbing, wear the appropriate shoes and not tennis shoes.

Fun, short hike. Easy enough for a five and six year old. Very crowded on weekends. Excellent view!

hiked up late on Friday. The clouds blocked our view. Camped near Cambell shelter, braved the rain, wind and cold weather and a much better view in the morning.

Didn’t get a chance to do the trail. Cops were ticketing everyone that wasn’t in the parking lot. Going right down the line with tickets. Be careful where you park. Guess I have to find another hike now.

Nice short hike. I had a few rain free hours to do this hike. It was creepy walking up in the fog and clouds but also awesome! lol I got the top and was alone but could not see the beautiful view because I was surrounded by clouds, I couldn't see more than 10 feet in front of me (I figured this would be the case when I started the hike). I couldn't even see the drop-off from the rock cliff, this was also creepy and awesome. I was not disappointed by not getting the view that everyone describes, I think my experience at the top was unique and interesting. Pic posted of my overlook.

There had been lots of rain and the falls were fantastic. Glad we had our hiking poles for stability on the wet rocks and leaves.

Fantastic views. Very crowded when we went on a Saturday. Buzzard's Roost, on a short trail a few hundred feet away, has some awesome boulders to climb onto for a nice panorama.

It’s tough but the view is worth it!

Dogs are allowed on the AT and other trails but they are NOT allowed on the trail to stony man.... which makes this loop mediocre at best.

Great, quick hike!!

Hiked this trail this past July. It was a well maintained trail and a good workout! It gets you sweating and feeling good. It is steep but nothing crazy. Pack snacks and bring plenty of water to enjoy the view at the top!

Great views for such a short and easy hike! Hiked on a beautiful, sunny, autumn morning. Will definitely do again.

Breathtaking views! Worth the mud and narrow parts of the trail. Steady hike but could use more trail markings.

The most beautiful view!!

Love the hike up to the top and the view was magnificent!!!

This is a great “developed hike”. The trail is maintained , with wooden lookouts over the falls to keep visitors safe. Great trail for kids if they will listen and stay where instructed. The lower portion is accessible and when it isn’t too wet wheelchairs can even get access. Hmm. Go during an off season and avoid the crowds. We’ve done it while it was snowing lightly and were nearly alone.

Great loop. Took two small dogs did awesome. Right parts of the trail were ok. Overlooks not too crowded in the morning before 10.

We started day one of our HIKE socked in with fog then it started to rain. - We made it to the highest point in the Shenandoah National Park. - Just a short side trail off of the Appalachian Trail was the Stony Man Summit we were at a elevation of 4,036 Feet. - It's the highest point in Shenandoah along Skyline Drive. - On our way back down off the mountain we couldn't see 5 feet in front of us. This is great side trail off the AT and is only a 322 feet climb in 8 tenths of a miles. We will need to do this side trail again just to see the views in that location.

I like this hike, a bit long but totally worth it.

Amazing! Definitely a hike that feels as if you are on top of the world ⛰
