Gorgeous views, nice trail, fairly gentle elevation gain overall, challenging though not crushing. Not on a level with Sierra passes, but great training for it, especially if you bring your pack. Get to the parking lot early, it was full by sunrise (slightly after 6:00am), though it was Saturday. Happy hiking!

I just sigh er is the season of a good sqfor

love this place. Good amount of people but still feels like the wilderness. Be sure to bring at least 3 liters of water. This trail can be deceiving. The view from the top makes it wwwweeeellllll worth it though

it was a lot of fun, but not a year round trail. I'd definitely avoid this place in the summer. the description saying it's shaded and cool is inaccurate; most of the trail, even inside the canyon, is in the full brunt of the sun.

The trail starts out on sandstone hills, then declines gradually into the slot canyon. once inside, the trail is extremely narrow. I could barely fit through with my day pack on. my husband wouldn't be able to fit through most of the trail as he's a big guy, and I was scraping my legs and arms on the walls as I passed.

Fortunately, the views inside the canyon make it totally worth it. It was even worth the heat! Would be a beautiful hike in the winter or spring, when the sun isn't so hot.

I hiked this very beautiful trail a few years ago, it was a very nice challenge. Bring lots of water if it's warm, there is a section that has no shade.

Steep climb but well worth it! The trail is exposed and no water available on trail so go prepared.

Amazing hike! Like the others - it was definitely tough (made harder by hauling up a pack) and totally worth it. You really get the bang for your buck on this hike - every part is beautiful. We started later than we had initially wanted (4pm) and got to the summit in 3.5 hours. Since we came that late in the day there was plenty of parking in the lot.

There is a stream a couple miles in that comes right out of the side of the mountain that many folks filled their water at - had I known I would have carried less water the first couple miles and filled up there to make better time (I think it's about 2 miles in?). When we got to the summit there were about 10 other tents scattered around. We were still able to get a spectacular spot overlooking the valley and although we were camped among a bunch of other folks, it still felt pretty remote. I would definitely do this hike again. I don't normally hike with trekking poles (I wear patellar supports), but am considering purchasing some as the downhill was a bit intense with a pack.

Fun hike.... Holy Fire was really affecting the air quaility, made it a little bit harder.... last mile is killer. Met an awesome group of hikers at the summit as well

It was a good work out went with a cousin it’s marked hard but don’t think it is. Over all great views, people, dogs, and bikers. Next time will take a potato with art work and leave it on top like the ones I saw by the way went during the fires witch was the obstacle the heat and air.

Beautiful views

It wasn't a good idea to go mid-morning this past Sunday. . .caliente! Reason being, I was waiting on someone. I make it a point to start as early as possible esp. in these excruciatingly hot summer months! It's not difficult for me. Although it's been deemed hard? I like it. The view from top is spectacular.

love it up here. be advised, 2 bear sightings a mile apart. 8-5-2018. 10:30pm Mt baldy Rd. first was at the Mt baldy rest area.

wish I could post a picture. looks horrible. the lake Elsinore area fire has peaks covered in smoke. check out 10064ft.com cam footage.

Awesome hike! Started at sunrise to beat some of the heat. The parking lot was already 3/4th full. Get there early! Loved the trail and the sound of the wind through the trees. I recommend Trekking Poles especially for parts going down hill. Parts are rocky and have some loose gravel. If you are steady on your feet you will be fine. Take lots of water and suncreen. Awesome views at the top! I will hike this again!

Good tough hike, just make sure to bring poles. Most importantly, save your water for your way down, the temperature at the summit is much cooler and shaded compared to below Icehouse Saddle.

Fun to see water in such a dry place. If only there were fish...

I completed the loop on Aug 4, I really liked the nicely wooded trail, for the majority of the trail I was cover by trees and nice shade that protected me from the sun and the terrible heat.
I definitely recommend a map for this hike, there are so many different trails going in all directions, that even when I was following the Alltrails app very closely I still managed to take the wrong turn and ended 20 minutes wondering around.
I think that the entire loop is too long, by the end I just wanted to be done with it, I think I would enjoy doing this hike one way up to the Observatory then drive back to Chantry flats.

Super hot during the summer months be careful of heat advisory’s. Dog friendly and easy access other than taking a gravel potholed road to the trail but only for about a mile to parking. Be prepared for no phone service if you are traveling.

Very challenging, I felt it was harder than Baldy, but it could have just been my mood that day. Dont forget your hiking poles for this be one and expect a full day. Start early as usual, but generally low traffic as compared to Baldy.

I loved this hike. I do some pretty brutal hikes this one is a good one! I will be going again. I suggest a good amout of fluids to keep hydrated and sunblock. I did go on a very warm day but the temps up there were significantly lower than down at the ground level and the breeze through the mountains was perfect!

What an amazing, day. We completed and hiked Mt. Baldy’s Icehouse Canyon to ‘Cucamonga Peak’ at 8859ft in 6hrs. I love hiking with my friends. Let’s hike another, one. This was an amazing up coming Bday, with a hike. Now, Let’s eat... ❤️

Challenging, but worth it!

Fun trail. We took Indian Truck Trail and went right at the main divide up to Santiago Peak. Trail was easy in our stock Rubicon with about three rocky parts with erosion ruts but they were fun. Highly recommend for an afternoon that is close to home. Took us about three hours round trip.

Beautiful trail! We ran into no other hikers either the entire hike. Its a hidden gem of Malibu.

So my girlfriend and I hiked this one today. We hike at least twice a week between 4-8 miles each hike. This one was definitely not an easy one.
To add to it we kinda took a wrong route before around the campsite and up some little trail of about 2 miles. Wasted energy and end of July heat was so amazing. Lol.
Overall it’s a great hike with beautiful reward at the end. The pond had water btw. It’s a bit of incline for the first 2.5 miles and totally worth it. Not for beginners though. We loved the solidarity cause no one is hiking this trail. We were the only one there. Probably cause it hard with no waterfall reward at the end. Would do it again.

this hike was tougher than i thought, i even knew while doing it but pushes to summit of Ross, its actually easier going back up Baden-Powell than down the ridge to ross, all scree much more slippery downward but no cliffside exposure so it safe from long falls, it was hell on my feet going down u need to be relatively tough to complete this don't underestimate the difficulty of this hike.

its beautiful a hike i will do again to see where i am physically going forward. u get great views of Baldy and the san antonio ridge, if u going to go Pine mt to baldy or Iron mt to baldy this is a good warm up for that and gives u great views of those routes as well. i really enjoyed this hike i paid for it but the price is well worth any sacrifice.

saw no one after baden powell and was a few days on the registry since, this is a remote route be advised of lack of accessibility let people know where u r. trail is clear difficult to get lost but terrain is harsh easy to twist and ankle fall bang a knee. Would suggest trekking poles and ample supplies plan well.

My hips hurt after. Not a great idea for smaller pups

Good work out

Great hike
