Fairly easy, well trafficked even in winter. Nice views looking up! Some small streams to cross and one spot with scrambling in the winter. Best spots are after the lake when it gets quiet!

Did this hike in mid December and it was great- some icy patches along the way at the time but navigable in hiking shoes alone. Beautiful view from the top of the falls!

Great trail for the winter months. The recent rains meant the air was clean and the trail was not dusty. I recorded 7.8 miles starting and ending from the parking lot’s trailhead. The climb back up from the bridge to the parking lot sneaks up on you. I recorded 282 ft. of elevation in the last 0.8 mile. Lots of beef cattle roaming free so watch where you step. Highly recommend this trail.

Pleasant easy walk in the winter, when there are few visitors. beautiful forest.

So we went straight up to the top which is quite the workout. If only we had taken the more eastern trail to get to the top. It still would have been a steady climb but better than hitting the sections on the more western trail that had 35-58% grade in some parts. It was such a great day for the hike. Mild temps, lots of greenery, and the river was flowing nicely. Nice way to spend a Sunday and get a good workout.

Great day hike trail, especially Nov-May

It got harder towards the end and the last portion was completely covered in snow. Overall great hike with multiple waterfall views. We just did this today and loved it. You also get multiple AMAZING views of Wowona Dome throughout the whole hike. We only saw one couple on the hike the entire time. Would definitely recommend!

Gorgeous hike, it wasn’t difficult at all. Lots to see, the beauty is breathtaking!!

Last summer I took my grandkids on this hike, we enjoyed it so much. The beauty of the trail and waterfall was astonishing.

Very steep incline, but the view made it worth it. Recommend it if you want a good leg workout.

We went up to Nevada falls via the Mist Trail and then looped back down the John Muir switchbacks. If you like to hike you must do this - it’s beautiful and rewarding. I love this hike. We went when the falls were just thundering and we were soaked so be prepared for that possibility depending on how Vernal falls is running. If you’re in Yosemite and have not done this hike just do it you will not regret it! Spectacular views.

JM trail was closed so we couldn't do the loop in mid october. Ended up doing out and back on the mist, still a great hike. Definitely one of the more popular trails in the valley, so be prepared for lots of traffic on trail.

Did this in 2016. Was beautiful and well worth it.

We did this hike in mid-December. While cold on the valley floor, we quickly warmed up with both the elevation gain and increased exposure to the sun. Really busy at the base of the hike but thins out as different path options are made available. Beautiful views of the valley and two legendary waterfalls. Great places to stop for lunch or enjoy a beer. Easy to follow, although we weren't able to do the full loop due to trail closures from rockfall risk.

Easy trail with a gorgeous prize at the end !

Challenging hike but the views are worth it. I'd definitely like to check it out in the Spring. Trail got pretty busy on the way down so start early.

The views outweigh the steep incline. Not very well marked. Busy trail with families and dogs.

Beautiful in the summer and the winter. Can get very cold and blustery though!

Great for family. Kids loved exploring

Awesome trail that is almost completely uphill out and downhill back. This is a do not miss hike when in Yosemite. The views get better and better as you go. Completed it over New Years so it was a little icy on the stairs by the top of the falls but there is a little side route to avoid the ice if you need.

Not a difficult hike and not to long, the views are gorgeous. The waterfall had plenty of water it was the perfect spot for photos.

Amazing view, little danger the road, was frozen

Nice walk around the south shore. Trail is mostly flat and well-maintained. Lots of pit toilets located throughout the trail. Trail users were a bald eagle sightseeing group, a few mountain bikers, some joggers, and a few hikers. It’s a good winter hike but I imagine summer hikes could be brutal due to heat, ticks, and rattlesnakes. One minor annoyance...if the trail signs says no dogs, then why do people think the rules do not apply to them????

lovely easy hike, not much of a lake but the views and that forest is totally worth it.

Fairly easy, though there is a paved road side and an unpaved side that’s a little more challenging.

Great views of half dome. Areas to stop and throw rocks in the water, if that’s of interest. Decent picnic type hike. Still open and clear in the winter.

Park at north pines camp ground if you can. There’s also a shuttle stop if you are able to get on the shuttle.

Great views of a different part of Yosemite and away from the big crowds. The trail is dotted with small waterfalls. The trip to the top and back was about 8.8 miles, so plan your day accordingly. Since it's out and back, you can turn around at any point. I'm glad I brought a heavy jacket. It got pretty cold at the top. We have no issues with Mountain lions or bugs. There was no snow either, even though it was mid December. I don't think I would try the steep parts of the trail when it's icy. Great day on the trail.

Just completed this hike on December 27th 2018. It was a little more than 2 miles to the Frozen waterfall. good for dogs and people of all ages. Sun was shining, snow on the ground, slightly cold but overall a great hike!

Safe, well marked, awesome. Wish I had done it sooner.

This was a fun trail with great views from the top!

Great Sunday afternoon hike. There were plenty of overlooks and places to stray along the trail. It’s perfect for a family outing!
