Road was closed when I went. Had to snow shoe out there. Lots of people were using snow mobiles to get there. Spikes were extremely helpful getting down the stairs.
Definitely concur that the packed snow on the stairs makes it very unstable. Make sure you have Yaktrax or some sort of cleats or spikes when negotiating the stairs. It’s a relatively easy hike. If you’re dressed properly for the weather, it should be a fun hike.
Due to the snow, it was longer than it seemed. I wouldn’t recommend this trail during the winter without proper gear. DNR had a couple of recoveries this week. I didn’t take the trail back due it taking almost 5 hours one way. I hiked along Falls Road go get back to my car. It added a couple of extra miles, but I got back to my car much sooner than I would have taking the tail back. The trail was about 45 minute miles and taking the road back was about 20 minute miles.
Longer than what it seems, but worth every step. Definitely a must during winter, but I’m sure it’s beautiful in the other seasons as well. Birch and hemlocks cover the entire trail.
Easy hike with a beautiful pay off. Slippery without spikes, some people were struggling to get up and down the stairs. Also, the road leading to the trail head is unplowed, we made it through with a truck and 4wd...a minivan struggled behind us and still made it but it looked sketchyz
Was hard to navigate and harder of a hike than expected. The view at the top is awesome.
Packed ice on the steps was treacherous.
Driving in needed a larger vehicle. Hiking was easy to moderate depending on snow and stair were a bit icy. Worth it once you saw the falls
Nice falls! A lot larger than expected. Nice little walk in, some stairs and a couple lookout spots. Would come back again.
Falls were beautiful. Very popular place though. A lot of people and (not so well behaved) dogs... It was a beautiful sight though! Would go back!
Great bang for your buck. Quite a few stairs, but the view is well worth it.
It was snowing so fast, my trail was covered on my return. Lovely! It was more difficult due to the 1.5 feet of snow, but it is a well trafficked trail and I would say moderate in the winter.
Gorgeous!
A bit icy on the steps going down. We took easy trail up and the more difficult on the way down and found that to be less slippery. Overall nice, easy hike that gets your heart pumping with an unforgettable view.
we stopped here after another hike in the area to see what all the hype was about... and boy did we find out! after hiking over 8 mi, I thought this would be an easy addition, but I was wrong. It was a wonderful experience! It was a little difficult to have my dog on leash because of the slipperiness of the stairs. thankfully no one else was around so I let her go for this deeper parts. but something to consider if you bring a dog.
Trail is always a great easy exercise. We took our two dogs, one a basset hound and they both did well.
BEAUTIFUL
The hike is pretty easy and short - the views are rewarding! The hardest part isn’t the hike itself but the weather at the top. I went in late November, so it was cold to begin with, and the winds were strong. Even so, it was well worth it! Just make sure you bundle up!
