Gorgeous trail in the fall. Mellow hike with a couple short uphill sections. Downhill too but mostly flat. Just made it to long lake this time.
Fabulous hike!
I’ve done this trail 3 times this year. It’s beautiful in the spring (and very buggy) and gorgeous in the fall ( no bugs). Can’t go wrong anytime you go...just go!
Nice hike...cooler temps today with a few hail spells. Definitely that time of the year where you have to pack appropriately. Portions of the trail soften up for a little relief from the typical Uinta mountain rocks. We began at 9:00am and passed only a couple groups that were camping. After noon the other day hikers started to show up on the trails. Island lake is truly one of the more beautiful lakes with some excellent campgrounds surrounding the shore.
Amazing hike! A few areas of the trail aren’t as clearly marked so you just need to pay attention around those spots. Started hiking at 7am and had the trail to ourselves until probably the last 2 miles and still only saw maybe 10 hikers. Beautiful!!
Great trail with lots of lakes along the way. Island Lake was beautiful. Great campsites all around. We’ll have to try cliff jumping next time.
Nice trail, really dusty late in the season. The hill right before the basin is difficult for beginners but relatively short. Hiked to the summit of Mount Marsell on day 2, awesome views! Saw a group of Mountain Goats on the east side of the lake.
Great trail for an overnighted. Nothing too strenuous. No bugs out right now but you never know what to expect with the weather in the Uintas as you get closer to the fall. Love this hike!
We made it!!! Thanks to all trails!!!
The wind was a little chilly, but only when we sat down and ate lunch. Only saw another hiker and her dog today Tuesday, 9/1/2020.
Great trail! We got there about 6 am and there were a decent number of parking spots left. We didn’t see anyone on the trail until we got to the larger lakes where people were camping. You could tell some of the water sources are less full since its the end of the summer, but there was still plenty of water for my dog most of the hike. Unfortunately the beetle has killed a lot of trees in this area, so it’s a bit sad, but if you’re looking for something not too crowded, cool, mostly shaded, and water for your pup, this hike is for you!!
Great hike! Lots of variation in trail terrain, great views, rewarding lake at end.
Trail was very easy to follow. When you get to Long lake there are a couple huge piles of cairns to lead the way over the rock hill. Only seen a handful of people which was amazing. Only 1 set if campers at the lake.
Steepest parts are in the beginning and end, but overall this is a very mild trail amenable to trail running. You pass Crystal and Long Lakes on the way to Island Lake. It's beautiful and worth the trip. Took 3 hrs, 15 minutes and was a total of 9.75 mi after exploring around the lake.
Great trail, well kept and marked. Mix of sun and shade. No bugs. Good for dogs. Cliff jumping at Island Lake is totally worth the trip. Enjoy!
