One of the best snowshoe hikes in Provo Canyon. There was a ton of snow today. I wore my spikes, but wished I had snowshoes. I usually do this as a loop, turning left at the Big Springs sign, heading through a couple of meadows. I often see turkey up here.

Just finished this hike. If your looking for a way out of the inversion soup, this is a great little hike to get above it. The trail is hard pack snow, making it a really nice, smooth hike. It’s actually a more comfortable hike than in summer in my opinion. With micro spikes and poles you’ll have zero problems on this trail. Beautiful, sunny warm skies up there above the smog. It’s well worth it!!

Fun Snowshoe! A bit of a grind / slog uphill, but well worth it!

I want to come back and see if anyone else has helped back down the trail in the upper canyon.

:-)

Gorgeous trail, and best of all dogs are allowed every day!

Super pretty with all the snow. A bit steep. Fun to see people sledding and skiing down!

Great hike! Bring those spikes!

Just got down. Only spikes used, some areas I wish I had poles but overall doable without, at this time. Thanks to the postholers, everything is mostly compact. Great hike.

Lots of snow, some mud, gorgeous views.

easy hike, big payoff. trail is packed the whole way. spikes were all that was necessary.

This hike is one of my favorites. The beauty and serenity of the meadows is why I keep doing it. I prefer going to grove creek and down battle creek.

This was an easier than moderate hike in my opinion, and an absolutely amazing winter destination.

Bring a sled!! Great hike.

Beautiful hike this morning. Only used spikes. Did some post holing about the last half mile.

Very steep inclines the whole way. Did this back in the Spring but a gorgeous view at the top.

Stunning day. Snow crampons were the ticket. Rainbows (Snowbows) around every corner. Falls were mostly frozen. Exquisitely beautiful.

Great hike, great views. I would say its even better to do this hike in the winter on a nice day...just really beautiful from top to bottom with the snow. Microspikes are the way to go. If you're not running up or down the trail I would say you could knock this out 2/1/2 - 3 hrs of actual hiking time if you're in moderate shape. If you do run down it takes about 35-45 mins with some stretches of walking.

Gorgeous, easy hike! So many aspens and butterflies!

Really enjoyed this hike. We hiked it in December with snow. The trail is used by snow shoes which made it accessible for regular snow boots. We were very glad that we brought ski poles as it made a huge difference. Crampons would have been nice, snow shoes would have been a bit much since it was so packed. The frozen fall at the end was spectacular as were the views enroute. We were not solitary but not so crowded that it was a problem in winter. We found a spot near the end to slide down on our rumps to cut off a switchback. Added excitement.

A classic, and crowded for a reason. It’s basically flat, can be done in an hour or so, and has great views of Provo canyon and the back side of Timp. Plus, there’s a waterfall at the end! I’ve done this hike as a Cub Scout, with cub scouts, and as an easy date. Very popular, so don’t expect to be alone on the trail. Nice for snowshoeing, though!

Awesome hike to bring along the puppers!

:-)

Great views and an exciting way to see the North side of Olympus.

Should have brought my snowshoes, was tempted to explore the ridgeline ...

Another time ...

Completely covered in snow and ice-definitely need spikes right now. Took me twice as long to go a mile than usual, and as I was losing daylight I had to abort the mission. I'll definitely be returning to finish. Completely gorgeous Winter Wonderland right now.

Trail is packed snow most of the time, wet dirt in many spots. Spikes are very helpful, especially at the steep parts near the top. Snowshoes would be overkill. It was a nice clear day which made for incredible views!

Steep hike with some ice and a bit of snow but a lot of mud. The weather was warm but it was windy and cold at the top. A great workout after all of the holiday gatherings so far.

$7 for day use now, blah :(

Hiked it this am. Had to park on the road since we started early (5:30am) and the gate was closed. It was cool in the predawn, but it warmed a bit as we left the creek and then again as the sun rose as we approached the summit at 6:30. Including a break at the summit to enjoy the view it was still under 2 hours round trip. A little steep in spots, but nothing technical or challenging. Under 90 minutes would've been possible if we'd run down.

Definitely recommend the hike. Had been 20+ years since I hiked it last but the rattle of the Aspen leaves and the smell of brush and wild flowers was very nostalgic. The view in every direction was fantastic.

A nice trail with great views but waaay too busy. The trail is packed all the way so I really did not need the snowshoes.

Wow. Wow. Wow. We hiked on 12/1 and there was 2-3' of snow the entire length of the trail. There was a small 2' wide compacted path the entire route so it was nice and easy to follow the path in regular waterproof hiking boots. Saw plenty of hikers with snow shoes and plenty without. It was fine without. The views on this hike are absolutely insane. Honestly the waterfall was great, but frozen over, but the valley and mountain views are top notch. We are here on vacation from Florida and have so far done 3 hikes (Adam's Canyon and Waterfall Canyon near Ogden) and this was our favorite of the three. Unbelievable.

It was a beautiful winter hike! Definitely recommend bringing yak-tracks or crampons for the slicker parts.

This is a great loop trail with no technical difficulties for 11 years old and normal adults. The scenic view at the meadow which is over G Mountain is really great!

Beautiful hike. Steep at the beginning and the end but the midsection is mild. Views at the end were great. Trail is icy in spots so make sure you have proper footwear and/or poles. Trail was a little busier than I would have liked but worth it regardless. There is a $3 fee to access the canyon and dogs have to be leashed on even days.
