Saturday April 11, 2021 - Bathrooms are open. No service at parking area so - Trail IS dog friendly, but it is very exposed with little shade for dogs that run hot. Additionally, your dog will have to descend either really smooth, slippery rocks or you’ll have to lift them up and down an 8’ ladder. If you can’t lift your dog and they are scared of heights, the reality is you won’t be able to do the whole thing. You still CAN get down to the canyon and see the slots and it’s gorgeous, you just will only do ~3 miles or less and not get to the very tall parts of the canyon. - Lots of water and sunscreen are necessary, not optional. - Plenty of parking available. The 8 mile long dirt road isn’t awful, just go slow if you have a 2WD or low clearance vehicle. - Trail is easy to follow but can be dangerous if you aren’t prepared for the heat or are nervous about heights. - Lots of families out there. Kid friendly as long as you keep them close and don’t climb on the rocks.

Killer views and interesting desert vegetation on the way there. Quite sandy and limited shade

Amazing slot canyons. The longest slot canyon in America and my favorite so far. What a hidden gem near Kanab. If you take the canyon all the way, it actually ends in Lee’s Ferry. No water inside, easy to traverse.

Everything was perfect about this hike! Rocky road once you enter, going on for miles. I drove a van, nervously, not knowing what the road condition would be until you get to the parking lot - it was just fine the whole way through. Minimum shade until you get to the slot canyon, but it’s the beginning of April, weather isn’t too hot, and there was a slight breeze to cool everyone down. Very easy hike for all ages.

100% worth the effort to get the permits. Tough hike but the map and Alltrails was perfect. Also, to those putting requests for permits here, please don’t. That’s not how it works. You can’t reverse add someone to a permit and you can’t transfer them. Just go to the in-person lottery or hire a local guide to do it for you.

Family fun! Be there early if the temp is going to be above 80 or you’ll be dragging. We were there by 9am. Wire pass is beautiful but when you walk into the gulch, it’s AWESOME! We went about 3 miles into the gulch and turned around. Don’t skip this one!

WalkingFeeGreat!

The road to the trailhead was about 8 miles and on dirt roads. They are doing construction at the trailhead so you might come across big trucks which were kind enough to pull over and let me pass. Lots of 2WD cars on the road as well. Bumpy in some places and small rocks here or there. No water at the trailhead and even despite poor planning on my part realizing our party of 5 only had two water bottles a kind man offered me 3 additional water bottles when I asked if he knew if there was a water pump - saved the day! We didn’t have pets but pet owners were helping each other get their pets down the wooden ladder - nice teamwork. The hike itself was spectacular. I saw a lot of carvings at the end of Wire Pass on the south side of the huge rock wall - suggest a sign there that no carving should be allowed to impact the natural scenery. Amazing hike. No cell service so be sure to pay beforehand before heading out to the trailhead. Despite no cell service nice that AllTrails still had GPS tracking on the saved trail map and east to see how much progress we were making.

it was my birthday dream to hike a slot Canyon. I knew Antelope was closed. several people suggested this one. it was spectacular. my crappy little rental car bumped along the 8 mile dirt road and survived. Even though there was no signage some hikers suggested going right at the T and I was blown away. Very rocky but The ladder was most helpful and at some point there were not many hikers so it was great to take photos and be alone. going the other way

I had been at Petra in 2019. This hike reminds me of the entry (siq) to Al-Kazneh (the Treasury). This is like Petra without the civilization. It is narrower and more natural than Petra.

GPS not good in the slots. Gravel road out was bumpy but fine with tall enough vehicle. Get pass from recreation.gov. The slots are amazing. Even with people around great pictures, but you need a camera that can handle dark shots even mid day. Go early to avoid the crowds. Get past wirepass and it thins out. I don’t know about north Buckskin but South from wire pass was great. Rocks available to get over water at this time.

Info about parking permits and car ground clearance, not the trail itself: Road obstacle: The road is not really safely passable with a 176" hybrid car with 6" of clearance, and I suspect with a regular sedan it's not much better unless maybe it's a short wheel base (as of 04/2021). About 1 mile in there is a hairpin turn that has a hump/drop big enough that even with an optimal sideways angle attack I buried a side of my bumper while also scraping the mid-section of my undercarriage. I decided to U-turn there (I scraped the same way). It's all sand so it's not damaging, but that also means you have to watch out with 2WD to not get stuck especially if you U-turn since only the road is packed hard, or when you negotiate a difficulty because you don't want to stop on it. This hairpin turn I believe is after the 2nd drainage pipe that crosses the road. To get there there's plenty of action driving tilted, lumpy sections and humps but all OK if you've been offroad before. Others can chime in if that is the worst obstacle or not. Parking permit: I got aggravated finding where to find parking permits. It's hidden in the BLM web site in the FAQ: https://www.recreation.gov/camping/gateways/10071676 Once you create an account, you buy a permit specific to the pullout you need, for $6/pers + $1.50 fee. You get a pdf document with a code below a QR code, listing your name, the number of hikers, and your car info. It's not clear to me if you can just write this down and leave on your windshield or if you need an actual print of the receipt, but who brings a printer on a road trip. The BLM phone # is a voice mail, and most BLM offices seem closed for covid, except the one at Big Water on i89A, and maybe the Kanab Field Office. HOWEVER with its address "669 S Highway 89A, Kanab, UT 84741" google sends you to a private business in Fredonia, AZ. The field office is on White House Trailhead Rd, and there is one, not so big sign on the road for it. BLM, your online info sucks, and your reliance on a cell phone pay system is an abheration for remote areas.
