Agree 100% with previous review. Felt exactly the same way

Great trail with lots of greenery and flowers! Took my 16 pound dog and he loved it, it’s just enough elevation to be interesting but not too difficult!

awesome trail

Parking is a challenge. This loop is not easily marked. Lots of various trails you can find your way back.

Great hike that’s going to make you break a sweat. Fantastic views. You can also change it up by going around the loop clockwise or counter clockwise.

Shadow Mountain isn’t a bad hike, it’s this particular route in this app that is absolute garbage. My friend and I tried following this trail, and as you’ll see several other hikers mention in these reviews, there is NO trail to follow. We walked down what looked like a riverbed (by AZ standards), and once the rocks dissipated we were left on the side of the mountain with zero idea where to go next. We tried walking but it’s all overgrown and with two pups, we were afraid of them stepping on a cactus or critter. We had our phones in our faces most of the hike trying to decipher where the heck we even were and how to stay in line with the route so couldn’t even enjoy the act of hiking. We eventually turned around and went back up to where we could see a path and put our phones away and figured it out on our own. That being said, this hike wasn’t bad, just don’t use AllTrails to complete it! Follow the obvious paths and enjoy the views. I would also rate this as moderate. It’s not hard, but I’ve been in easy hikes via AllTrails and they are a stroll in the park while this hike has some steep areas with slick rocks I wouldn’t want someone expecting an easy hike with kids or elderly folk to deal with that.

Crowded trail on the weekends, mostly at the beginning.
Wear trail shoes vs tennis shoes

Nice hike, super dog and it’s friendly. Our doxie did great! Beautiful scenery. Not difficult by any means, nice little hike.

It was a really pretty trail. Very few rocky patches compared to other valley hikes. The trails were also well marked with a nice bathroom and playground at the trailhead. The parking lot was also nice and big do even though it was fairly busy there was parking.

Rocky trail, good hiking shoes a must. Beautiful views. Will definitely do this one again.

Beautiful scenery and wildlife! My favorite hike yet! Theres a large nest, home to an owl, in a cacti on your way to the loop! Also had a close encounter with a coyote along the trail!

Great for trail running!
First half is a bit loose and rocky so watch your step if you’re running through. Great little climb up the granite ridge in the middle with a perfect spot to take a break, have a snack, enjoy the view. Back half is gorgeous to run through and connects to another trail if you want to take it further.
First bit and top of the ridge can be busy on weekends.
Parking is limited so get there early.

We did the trail clockwise and added the Vale Trail and Desert Tortoise Trails at the end to extend the loop. Good decision as this section was quieter and had better saguaros. Not too many people out on this day.

I rode counter clockwise, starting on Scorpion then switching to Pyramid. Happy starting uphill... manageable from that direction. The steep descent on the east side (Pyramid) is probably harder than moderate, but the rest is manageable. Some really great views on the east side. I’ll ride this again.

Favorite hike in Phoenix so far. But I think I’d call it easy

Great trail that offers some short interval inclines as well as nice meandering sections. Fun trail to break a little sweat and enjoy the weather.

My favorite hike in Scottsdale!

Gentle diverse hike, moderately travelled on a Sunday, with interesting geological features and a variety of vegetation and lots of flowers. Sweeping views.

Nice trail and great panoramic views

MMRP team worked hard to re open lower trail to horizontal mine shafts. Beautiful fall like views with yellow leaves.

Be warned, there is no water at the trail head. Bring plenty of it along. As for the trail itself, it's a fun and unique experience. A mix of geological learning and hiking. There are several neat rock formations and information signs explaining their formation, as well as the formation of the landslide itself. Highly recommend taking an afternoon to explore this!

My wife and I are hiking novices but enjoyed this hike. It is VERY rocky compared to some other more sandy/gravel trails we have tried, like Pinnacle Peak and Tom’s Thumb. I would definitely recommend hiking shoes vs sneakers.

We took the anti-clockwise direction which is a more gradual incline, but meant a longer uphill section than the clockwise alternative.

Great trail and views of the valley

This was a nice hike, though completely misleading. I was unable to see Frank LLoyd Wright's home even though we followed all the signs to the Taliesan overlook, which is a bit separate than the ringtail loop and is a separate turn off. It was upsetting to follow a trail that said Taliesan overlook but did not provide any fiew of the home and architecture school.

Great trail!

Hiked on 1/1/19. I enjoyed the gentle incline. This is a nice trail for admiring the plants. Also good for kids. My 5 year old hiked it with me.

The trail is in perfect condition and provides a scenic, easy in and out hike through lush greenery with spectacular views of the red rocks that Sedona is famous for.

Spectacular views! Will definitely hike this again.

Hiked this today with our Husky and Shihpoo. Mild ups and downs on a largely sandy trail that circumvents Brown’s Mountain. Vistas are marred by power lines. Parking and restrooms as well as maps at trailhead. Horses and bikes share the trail.

Nice and easy dog friendly hike with beautiful views!! Highly recommend the last scramble up the rocks to see the view!! 2 miles round trip!
