We just did the hike around the lake as had a stroller and three year old in tow. Was beautiful and very quiet; we only saw a handful of people the whole way round even though there were a lot of tourists in the parking lot and on the bridge at the beginning taking photos.

Short, Steep hike up the road from where the cars parked. Buses were allowed all the way up. Crazy, pushy tourists crowded onto the icy trail from the buses to the view of Peyto Lake.

Wonderful hike and view on the ridge. A long ascent but not a technical trail! Technical only if you walk on the ridge pass the trail end. Have fun and bring a lot of water!

Hike to the basin. Totally worth it.

Gave it a 3 because it was so snowy/cloudy/foggy that we couldn’t even see the water. Trail was snow/ice covered and very slippery. Definitely not worth the drive when it is snowing as the roads were snow covered with sheer drop offs with very few guard rails. People were driving with their flashers on and cars/buses were backed up (ie, at a stand still) trying to get up the mountain road. Cars were turning around to go back to Banff on a very narrow mountain road with curves and very limited visibility. We made it to The Crossing, spent the night, and with more snow being forecasted decided not to continue onto Jasper, but to go back to Banff. Disappointing.

on Emerald Lake Trail

Really great trail! Parking lot is small so we had to park on side of the road but wasn’t too far. I took my 7 and 4 year old kids with me. We didn’t do the uphill part, but we did the trail that takes you all around the lake. It was 7.5 km and took us 2 hrs with stops for the kids to play by the lake, which you could do at 3 or 4 spots where the trail levels out to the lake. Easy walk, no major steep sections. Muddy in some parts, for sure. Lots of great views. Many people come to get a glimpse of the lake but few do the trail, making it relatively quiet along the way. Highly recommended.

Beautiful view! Saw the fox outline and mountains surrounding it so clearly. 12/10 would recommend.

Great hike along the lake !

Such a marvelous lake !

We went late afternoon and it was very crowded! A lot of buses and tourists ! We were a bit disapointed but we walked the main trail anyway and took a trail away from the main path after the belvedere! What a good choice we made !! The view is much more impressive! And you can appreciate your moment without having thousands of tourists behind your back ! My advice: take the small trail after the belvedere!

Hiked to dolomite pass above Helen Lake.

Nice hike. 2 mile uphill to start, then easy fast long terrain to Lake Helen. Easy up to the pass and Cirque Peak above. Went up a little way but didn’t attempt to summit because of snow and the fact we really didn’t know the route

One of my favourite hikes in rockies. The 360 panorama view of Rogers Pass and its surrounding glaciers is breathtaking. That said it is a tough climb so be fit and bring lots of water.

We did this trail in the end of June - and it was awesome! As soon as you get to the elevation gain there aren’t many people around :)
Once it goes up, it’s quite steep and after seeing the emerald glacier just keep going and going - way further than the route here displays and you will get rewarded with spectacular views. When we were there, there was still snow up from avalanches. Highly recommended!!

Very crowded, but beautiful views

Go early it gets very crowded and the trail is narrow. Amazing views! The water is absolutely stunning! Be careful leaning against the railings on the first viewpoint. It was rotted and loose!

Gorgeous lake and views! There are so many great places to take photographs here and it wasn't too crowded even mid day. I highly recommend visiting this lake!

Easy to follow trail, not too steep. Great wildflowers and lots of marmots. Can be a lot if people on the trail. First half of the hike is in the forest (with a number of good view points across the valley), second half of the trail is wide open.

This was an absolutely incredible hike! Yes, it’s steep! The grade is fairly constant. After we passed the lake, we took the short cut to the right. It’s easier to go up the short cut and come back the long way. At the top, the views were 360 degrees! Mountains and snow and glaciers! If I can do this with a spinal cord injury and my husband with an injured knee, almost anyone can do it!

Nice, easy walk with great views of Emerald Lake. There’s a great rock and the far end of the lake, perfect for sitting on and enjoying the view. I sat there for half an hour listening to the lions and watching fish jump - it was amazingly peaceful. It was misty and overcast when I was there but still very beautiful.

Make sure to take some of the trails off the main path. We decided to do that and ended up completely alone with the most amazing view. I think it may have been the Cauldron Trail but I’m not completely sure. It is also better to visit this lake on the earlier side.

Really beautiful hike even with the smoke! This trail is moderately trafficked enough to have some trail to yourself but not too sparse that you'd have to worry about wildlife. We brought out two small dogs (15lbs each) and they had a blast. The hike up to Helen lake it picturesque (especially when it opens up into the "sound of music" fields) and the small ascent to dolomite ridge opens into an old ice field that is absolutely stunning. From here you can summit to Cirque peak but due to the smokiness it wasn't worth it for us and most of the other hikers on the trail. Overall it was a great half a day and would do it again. 2h up, 1h 45min down.
PS: if you hear a small child screaming, it's most likely a marmot, but double check.

Go for the scenery not the hike or crowds.

Very crowded but awesome view

A must-see. Was not crowded when we visited--but that was off-peak late May 2015.

Crazy crowded, but amazing views.

Super easy trail and so beautiful! If you go a bit further and follow the trail you will find an even better view of the lake with less people. For a better light and less crowd, start in the morning, I was there at 8 and it was perfect! A bit cold in the morning though.

vous pouvez aussi descendre pour vous rendre au lac . la vue est exceptionnelle

Great views! there is an option to drop off people at the top if the short hike is too much.

Go early to miss crowds

Steady grade all the way, took the short route up from the lake and the long route back down, recommend this. Views from the ridge are spectacular!
