Fairly challenging trail - lots of steep ups and downs, it's definitely a workout if you plan on biking or running. Two main complaints - 1) The street parking near the beginning of the trail (where the app leads you to) is pretty much gone now - there's nowhere to park with all the "No Parking" signs around. I'd say ignore the app and try to find a closer parking lot within the park. 2) There's a TON of bikers on this trail, most of which zoom right by you at top speed without any warning whatsoever. Definitely keep your headphones low/off and be aware of your surroundings unless you want to get hit from behind.

A beautiful hike with numerous changes of scenery. A great way to start a fall day.

Rated four stars for the views, it’s nice to walk along the river for so long. But it’s a very easy trail, definitely not moderate. Only a few climbs, everything else is flat, wide trails. I think I’ll do a little trail running next time.

The trail is a nice, light exercise with some great views of the Eno. If you live nearby it's certainly worth an outing!

This trail is well worthy of its intermediate rating, as it has some pretty grueling switchbacks. lots of uneven terrain and loose material. and some slightly treacherous downslopes.

But you do get some nice vistas, the power lines kinda take away some, but still nice.

Bits of advice: Take Your Time! Also either carry a camel back or bring a gallon of water, because you WILL need it. Dehydration is no joke, it's early symptoms are subtle, but it gets bad quick, headache is a clear sign that you are not drinking enough. take lots of breaks and drink plenty of water. When you get back to your vehicle it's a good idea to have a Gatorade or Powerade, you need to replenish those lost electrolytes.

nice trail. we hiked it. it was more of a walk in the woods next to a river than a hike, but it was a morning well spent. I would rate it as easy instead of moderate. this would be a GREAT trail for running. I would run on it every day if I lived near by.

took the kids there when young to learn about trees and rocks. even grilled out a few times. early in the spring used it to train for some big hikes out west and break in new boots doing 6 miles of varying terrain. it's a nice park. let the kids climb the fire tower in the parking lot.

We enjoyed the trail but were confused on how to finish it. The trail had brush on it and seemed to dead end into private property. Would be interested to hear from people who were able to complete the trail.

Nice trail! 5 miles with the Fanny Ford extension - which is a must for the beautiful water views!

The bridge at the 0.5 mile marker on this trail was taken out by a giant tree during the Hurricane Florence flooding. The trail is still passable - you just have to cross some rocks.

A great trail for a run. Nice and quiet.

Not hard at all. Mostly paved. It would be much better of a challenge for biking. Close to the road for a good portion

Creek was perfect for playing in!

Good workout trail! It’s well maintained and it was moderately trafficked by people (and dogs on a leash) Go early (park opens at 7:00am) the parking lot will fill after 9:00am...

It's a nice little trail with a surprisingly high "mountain" compared to the area around it. It isn't really challenging and doesn't have the best views but it's definitely a fun trail that is pretty hidden in Durham/Chapel Hill. The best part for me is being right next to New Hope Creek which can be really relaxing and beautiful at times. Be warned of lots of roots/rocks and one small river crossing, which there is a few logs to climb over.

one of my most favorite secluded hikes.

Great trail. Definitely need good hiking shoes as there is an abundance of rocks and roots along the trail. One water crossing needed to complete the trail and a short section of rocks to climb over along New Hope Creek

We had 4 kids under 6 years old, the trail was not only informative and scenic enough for them, but the adults too! There are multiple trails which you can choose from to vary your distances too. Very clean and we’ll maintained.

Beautiful hike! Ending at the Eno Quarry was a real treat

I really liked this trail ... my favorite so far in the Duke Forest. Got a great view of the New Hope Creek.

Fantastic trail for the area. I'd recommend hiking as much of the new hope creek trail down by the water as possible, going all the way to erwin road following the creek.

Do note, though, the .8 section of trail between concrete bridge and wooden bridge passes across an incredibly steep and rocky hill. This hill section is unmarked and I would not try it without going down on all fours and it's pretty hairy even then..

Great loop! My dog loved the Eno river running along the trail so she could jump in when she got too hot. The signs and blazes make it easy to follow. Wonderful spot!

Nice trail but got difficult by the creek. Would have been fine but slippery due to recent rain. Dogs loved it

A recent relocation and upgrade has helped turn this good trail into a great one. Gone are the super-steep climbs and descent from the peak of Cox mountain, replaced now with more gradual and less worn new trail. My guess is the relo has added about .3 miles to the original, but it is all great trail.
Highly recommended!

it is perfekt to go with dog and without dog.

Best trail I’ve done in the triangle so far. The rock scrambles were a nice surprise and the overall walk was great.

Nice trail. Turtles on logs in river. Mileage does not include fanny ford extension shown on red trail map.
Easy to leave off with short connector trail. Quite a bit up and down. Rough terrain. Suggest older hiker like me (73) use sticks and good hiking boots.
