The best trek I’ve ever done. Did on our own without guides or porters as we value our solitude. Loved all the towns we passed and the beautiful people of Nepal.
An amazing experience! I started and completed Oct 30th, 2020. Took me longer then expected (14 hrs) but hey I completed it
Fantastic in October. Started early and moved fast enough that we never dealt with the heat.
Last month, I hiked this! If you want a full review, check out this video. https://youtu.be/7E8CPIwaV8k?t=436 I talk about this more in my video, but this is a really hard hike. Even for me, and I have hiked some really hard hikes, this one is so hot and has a lot of elevation change. Be prepared for it.
Did the hike on Oct 2, 2020. The temperature were well into the 90's. We got dropped off at the North Rim Lodge about noon and started our hike about 1. We arrived at Phantom Ranch & Bright Angel Campground around 11:30pm. My hiking partner got sick, so the Ranger allowed us to sleep at Bright Angel. We were supposed to stay at Indian Gardens. The next day she was feeling better. Counting the time hiking on the rim before our crossing, we logged 30 miles over 21 hours. (including the 6 hour sleeping break at BAC) Epic hike, would love to do this again over a few days
Incredible experience! Started at Grand Canyon Lodge on North Rim, down North Kaibab—much harder than it sounds, prepare yourself. Stayed at Phantom Ranch, highly recommended. Hiked out Bright Angel, awesome views! Train for this and make sure you hydrate, eat salty snacks and take electrolytes. I think we saw the same rescue described on another review. Hyponatremia is no joke
This hike was one of our favorites through the GC! we did this during the summer months and although we were hot, we agreed we would do it again! Do not rush this hike, as the beauty of the canyon needs tome to soak in! We completed our rim to rim in 2 days, but we wish we had more.
The trail was incredible but definitely difficult for a one day hike which we completed in about 15 hours with 8 men ages 49 to 59. Do not do even a short hike down if you are unprepared for the hike back up. As they say down is optional, up is mandatory. This was proven out at the end of our hike where we came upon a seriously ill individual from another group suffering from extreme hyponatremia. Thank goodness for the incredible NPS Search and Rescue who saved this 26 year old man's life. Take your training seriously and be prepared fully as you take on this challenging hike.
Just completed this hike over 4 days. Although many do it in 1-2 days, I’d recommend 4 days if you really want to see the canyon and take in all the beauty. I never hiked in the dark, but i also always got started right at daybreak. The sun/heat is no joke. Drink lots of water/Gatorade and make sure you’re taking in plenty of food. Probably my favorite hike to date!
done this trail 3 times. couldn't find where it would let me pic rim to rim to rim. took a little less then 18hrs to hike there in back only stopping to eat and fill up camel backs. amazing hike that I lost some toe nail on the last time.... always worth it
Labor Day 2020: Started at North Kaibob and down to phantom ranch for day one, trail was hiked mostly at night with headlamps due to temps well over 100°. The trail down is hard as it is narrow at points and there are lose rocks everywhere. But with some patience we made it down. Spent a day at Phantom Ranch and did a waterfall hike located approx 1.2 miles from the ranch-ask staff there it was recommended and worth it. Day 3 was up bright Angel Trail but now is 1.5 miles longer due to the silver bridge being out. All water sources were working during our time. It’s definitely a bucket list hike, but be prepared. We had temps that ranged during our 3 days from 45°-120°+. Our party of 4 consisted of 10 year old and a 70 year old. With preparation and planning this can be done. But heed the warnings. 120° is intense.
Completing this trail in one day is not so much a hike as it is a journey of epic proportions. The canyon is absolutely breathtaking, and this trail takes you right through the heart of it, where the incredible scenery and good views are always present. This certainly was an adventure of a lifetime. Should be on any bucket list for any hiker who is in very good shape!
