A very nice trail I would rate moderate. I ascended with a portion of the Valencia Peak trail to get a better workout and avoided that route down in order to save the knees. I look forward to returning in April to see the wildflowers.

This was a decent hike. It was mainly foggy, so we didn’t get a chance to see the “nice” scenery. We started at 8am though, so you may want to wait until the fog lifts to actually enjoy it. The incline was fairly decent. We hiked next to a tower too, so we were able to access the Wi-Fi on our phones. Pretty chill hike!

Part dirt trail, part boardwalk along the beach. Beautiful and scenic! Some homeless folks here and there.

Great views !!

Awesome hike! Beautiful display of native vegetation. Expect to share the trail with mountain bikers.

We had to climb the fence to get to the trail so we were a little hesitant at first, but the hike is a dirt road & easy to follow. It's a gradual incline with nice views of San Luis Obispo & even Morro Bay. Went in June & the smell of the wildflowers was very nice! The terrain starts off as dry grass & oak trees but at about 2 miles it changes to pine trees & more of a mountain terrain. It was a nice surprise.

Ive been doing this trail for years and the journey through the sand never gets easier. Well worth the effort though.

This trail has amazing views of the “9 sisters” or volcanic plugs of San Luis Obispo County and other coastal areas. On a clear day you can see the Five Cities area down south. The parking lot is at the top of the Cuesta Grade and can be easy to miss. When coming from Atascadero, it is on the right just after you reach the top of “the grade” (turn into the brake check area). We always park at the bottom and hike from there, but many people drive further up the road, which results in some light traffic. There is a system of other trails connected to the main trail/road that I have not tried yet, but that look intriguing.

Great hike. Plenty of wildlife to see.

Beautiful hike, especially after the recent rains.

Trails are a bit of a challenge because of recent rains and the creek being a bit higher and covering some trails. There is extensive poison oak. Long pants are highly recommended.

Went back a week later with the grandkids to show them the cool fall and cave at the base of the trail. They had lots of fun and didn’t have to go on a trail to get there. This was a plus because there is a ton of poison oak.

A must do! Beautiful walk along the coast. Well maintained walkway. Dogs are ok in a leash. Goes all the way to the butterfly grove. Awesome walk.

The view from the top was breathtaking and right off the start the waterfall is at the bottom. Directions were confusing. Lots of poison oak all around you and on the trees. Right above the waterfall there is a bridge it leads you up to two separate paths if you take the right it takes you to where the bench is and to the left overpassing the creek it takes you to the swing!
Easy to moderate but long loop we never completed

A bit hard to find trail head....after a few jaunts passing back and forth along 101, figured it out. Previous reviews mentioning the gate were helpful, to ensure we were on right trail. Initially, I was skeptical, as freeway was right below and a car was driving in the "trail"(were we on a "road"?)....after the first mile, we enjoyed the trail much more--beautiful views indeed! Wildflowers will be great and in full bloom, I imagine , within a couple of weeks. I'd like to go back and do further mileage from trails branching out from mt Lowe.

Excellent views. Great workout. Trail is a mix of rocky and dirt. A few steep rocky sections. Definitely a must do. The length of the loop and elevation seem to be a little off. A little higher and longer than stated. Bring lots of water.

Great hike for all levels. Loved the swing. Imagine it would be hot in the summer.

This is a excellent choice when you want a hike that offers great views not just at the top, but all along the trail. And yes! there is LOTS of poson oak at the start, so be smart and wear long pants!

Pretty fun hike, has some architectural structures towards the middle if you go left, don’t be afraid to go towards the houses and opens up a bunch of trails after going thru a couple gates, if you go up the steep hill you’ll find the swing everyone’s talking about. On a clear day the views are awesome! Parking in lot H4 on weekends is free and doesn’t require a parking permit! Enjoy!

I’m rating it a 3 only because the “Trail” was just a path leading to the beach but you can hike the dunes just as well. The beach and the views get ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ though.

This was an amazing hike! There is so much to see. I will be going back again!

Pretty awesome hike, many trails to go to off the main fire road! Can’t wait to try all of them and has some good inclines! Fun times at the top of the grade!

breath taking views and the year round perfect san luis obispo weather earned this hike 5 stars. the architecture grave yard, horses, and swing at the very top made this a fun and rewarding hike

A good trail, but know that there is poison oak on the first half mile of the trail. After that? It’s absolutely amazing!

Great hike, attempted to run but elevation jumps from 200 to 800 rather quick. Great leg work out. Best to do this hike early to view the sun as it comes up over SLO. Flatlander heaven.

The Poly run-hike was fun and challenging for a Florida flat lander. The map lead me straight there with little no issue. Excellent training run...

Good short hike. Nice views at the top. It was pretty clear and we could see over to Morro Bay and south to Avila beach area.

As an FYI, from the top you can walked down south to downtown SLO. Have lunch n Uber back to your car at trail head.

Whole family loved it!

Love this one we usually do from Cero Alto to Ridge but have also biked the full 17

note that the trail is currently closed for vehicles

Fun hike. Good trail with mountain bikers primarily. Went to the top. Some water in the creek but no waterfall like in the spring.
