To all of the hikers who think this trail would be better without all of the mountain bikers, this trail wouldn't exist if not for the bikers. DORBA (Dallas Off Road Bike Association) created and maintains the trail. Thank the bikers as they pass you for providing such a gem in the DFW metroplex.

This is my new go-to trail with my dog. Free to get in during the day at the Murrell Park entrance. I would consider this a mountain biking trail that allows hikers. Lots of bikes! Make sure you don’t have headphones in so you can hear the bikers coming up behind you. Everyone has been very friendly when passing and let you know how many are behind them and when it’s clear to keep walking. Definitely worth exploring!
The trail is narrow and one way with spots to turn around if you don’t want to do the whole loop.

Great trail, will definitely be back. Happened upon this one because the first trail we went to was closed. Bike traffic, but nothing bad, all bikers were courteous. Walked about 7 miles of the trails today, will more than likely go back next weekend and do a different portion.

Great trail for a easy hike. However, I can’t understate the level of biblical swarms of mosquitos that accompany this entire trail. Unless it is below 50 degrees or windy you may not want to attempt this hike. We kept to a forced march pace and were still harassed constantly. Yes we were wearing long sleeves and covered in deet. We saw several deer and a herd of hogs on our Saturday morning trek.

Way too many mosquitoes as a result of recent rains and warm weather made it unpleasant. Even covered with bug spray we didn’t make it far before turning back. Will try again when the temps drop. Saw a group of hikers turn around almost immediately—now I know why the parking lot was empty even though it was a beautiful day.

Last year, I would have given this trail 6 stars, but I went out several weeks ago and the trails are just overcome by bikes to the point there is backup everywhere. The pace of the trail is slow for the reason when you are on foot since you are always getting off the trail to let the next ten bikers through. This was my favorite trail up until this year as the trails seem narrower and less runner and pedestrian friendly. I think they probably need to think about reclassifying it as a trail for bikers only.

However, with that said, the trails are always clean and those in the park seem to respect the surroundings and keep the site as they found it.

Awesome place , awesome view , I had been their last Saturday , it was raining , the view was just something to watch out for. Nearer to the city and such a lush green landscape hard to find.

Love this place. It's right off of Denton Hwy so be careful or you'll miss the entrance. Not suitable for strollers or young children.
Make sure you bring bug spray! I was being attacked my mosquitoes constantly. I had my dog with me and he loved it. Some parts are a little tricky, but its also a bit muddy right now.

The first 3 miles of this trail are beautiful and amazing. The farther in you go, the less maintained it is. The super tall grass on either side has fallen in many places and the trail is often obscured by fallen branches and such. I also got a tick bite on this trail. Nothing against the trail there, just be vigilant! Also around mile 4 ish there is so much trash! Everything from trash bags to tires to an old refrigerator.

enjoyed what I was able to do, but it is severely overgrown after about a mile and a half. I switched over to the trail on the other side because there was no way around the dense overgrowth. there is also an excessive amount of trash on this trail. if I was out to hike for beauty, it would have bugged me. but since I was just trying to run through, it wasn't terrible.

Only did half mile trail. But definitely liked it. However it is the busiest trails I have ever seen. No less than fifty cars in the parking lot. In the middle of the week 30 min. Before it closes.

Really like this trail. Lots of trees and shade which is awesome in the summertime.

I really liked these trails. Had my dog with me and we completed it in an hour and a half. Lots of mountain bikers but they were courteous and alert you.

Took my dog and we hiked this trail for the first time! Great trails! Went during the week and just a few mountain bikers. I suggest not to wear headphones so you can hear when they alert you. They were polite and moving fast!

To all you hikers that keep complaining, take a minute to think who maintains the trail.. (DORBA).
(YES, IT COSTS BOTH MONEY TO BUY TOOLS AND LOTS OF VOLUNTEER HOURS TO KEEP THE TRAILS TIDY)
Then take another minute to figure out what does that mean. Hikers are more than welcome. but please no matter the park you go to. always stop at the trailhead and READ THE RULES!!!
most trails will ask hikers to go in the oposite direction so you can spot bikers from a distance and move aside.
thank you all for understanding.
have a great day!!

I’ve only run here once during the Rockledge Rumble trail race, but it was my favorite trail run so far. Excellent trail. Loved the mix of terrain and thought it was fairly technical for the area. Definitely recommend it.

Good mix of beginner and intermediate single track with a few hairy advanced spots deeper into this big counterclockwise loop. Easy to choose your distance by turning left at any of the well-marked return trails that will take you back to the trailhead. Lot’s of tall vegetation and “tunnels” this time of year. There were times when I wished I had worn sleeves. But it’s August in Texas! My advice is to hit the trail early in the AM as much of this trail is shaded and pleasant before the sun gets too high. My GPS registered a little over 6.5 miles to the turnaround at Cheyenne Circle. One option for a loop that’s shorter than doubling back on the return trail is to ride back to the trailhead on paved roads by going up Cheyenne to Pocahontas which connects to Cross Timbers. A little more than 3 miles gets you back to the trailhead on 377 and makes for a total of 10 miles which I did in a 1:30. A good alternative when you’re time constrained but want to go deep to reach a couple of the more technical stretches. About those rocks not far from the final turnaround: I passed a guy who blew out his rear derailleur and snapped a chain. Not a great place for a major technical blowout! Happy riding.

Nice hiking trail for 20 min outside dallas. Mostly shaded which was nice. Rocky so I had to put boots on my dog. Can’t complain otherwise! Very little bike traffic although I came out on a weekday during the day.

Fantastic trail once you're beyond the Old Alton bridge. Quiet (except for distant traffic noise), fluctuating scenery and terrain, and clean. Terrain gets really hilly and a bit treacherous east of the Village Pkwy bridge, then the trail fades as you go further east. A local resident told me the trail riders stopped maintaining it east of that bridge after the 2015 flood.

The first mile or two is fantastic scenery. It drops off a little on the big loop in the middle where there is nothing but tall flowers/grass blocking views and trapping in heat (Summer). We almost got run over by a bike at this area because there’s no way to see someone else coming around the thin corners. Other than that though, great place for a walk, workout, to get away and enjoy the outdoors.
