Trail was very snowy and due to the past few days of wind the snow wasn't very packed. Super beautiful and amazing hike and there were plenty of people on the trail, but I would not recommend it without snow shoes

Hiked 3/13 with boots plus 30 lbs of camera gear, 20oz of water, a camera monopod/tripod/walking stick, and a MacBook Pro 15 (Which I regret carrying). Trail is mostly snow and very little ice unless you include the frozen lake. Great for first timers during all seasons. Definitely quite the winter wonderland and there's a fair amount of friendly people throughout the trail.

Hiked 3/14. Great hike for people who are familiar with the outdoors. We hiked with just hiking boots but microspikes would have definitely been handy as the snow was a bit slick/slippery. Beautiful weather made it an incredibly beautiful hike. When we arrived at Emerald Lake it was extremely windy but we were able to sit and take in the majesty of the lake for a few minutes before we headed back.

Trail was very nice. Some ice but you can get around it, also Mud. Towards the end there are rock stairs, so there is a bit of a climb. The summit was very nice, not amazing. Small area once you reach the top so if it's a busy trail day, it will definetely be crowded. I only gave it 3 stars because the summit view was not that impressive, the trail itself was very pretty.

Best views in RMNP in my opinion!

Great trail for beginners like myself! Can’t wait to go in the summer

Definitely recommend spikes. Snowy towards the end. Falls were frozen over which made the hike anticlimactic. Would recommend saving this for when it gets warmer.

It was an easy hike except for the icy condition, although some other hikers had no problem with it, but I was slipping where there’s ice even with walking poles. The view was amazing, though! I’d definitely rent microspikes to wear next time. The lake is still frozen, I think the view will look even more beautiful if it wasn’t frozen.

Beautiful place to hike! We went 3/12 early in the morning. We did not do the full loop at the end as the wind picked up, but it was still a wonderful hike. We did read the recommendations to wear yaktrax but we did not, wished we would have at times but it was still doable without them, just need to be careful with the ice!

Hiked 3/12. Only used microspikes. No wind. Lots of people for a Monday hike. Nice views

Was fun , great for a quick weekend hike ! Was pretty active a lot of bike riders but they were courteous and path was shared .
Great views found a little hidden water fall that was frozen ! Kids loved it would go back again .

Pretty boring at this time of year.

Easy hike with rewarding views. The trail was a bit icy in some spots but overall it was in good condition.

Dynamic. Some icy spots that can be walked around/avoided. Great views!

Awesome! Hard packed snow the whole way. No need for snowshoes and I only threw on my Yak Tracks on the decent from The Loch which is the steepest part of the hike. Very beautiful surroundings and views. If you still have some gas after reaching The Loch, swing by Mills Lake on the way back to the TH, you will not be disappointed with the extra stop! I’ll definitely be back in the Spring/Summer.

Had a nice hike this morning! Windy Saddle Trail was really nice, but Lookout Mountain and Beaver Brook Trails both had a lot of ice. Still doable with Yak Traks or good winter gear.

On the way up we were getting nervous about the lack of snow in morraine park, but were not let down when we got to the trailhead. We were fine in just our hiking boots til shortly after nymph lake then the trail got more narrow, steep, and icy where our snowshoes came in handy (or any type of yaktrak would have been fine). Overall it was great, still very well traveled even in the snow. Signage is nearly impossible to find with how deep the snow is, but trail is mostly well packed and easy to follow.

Very moderate incline and declines over the long trail. Quite populated but not overbearing. Beautiful scenery and overall great weekend hike!

A couple of people didn’t have their kids on a leash and were flying up behind hikers on mountain bikes without saying anything. If my dog has manners, your kid can too.

But that was at the bottom. Other than that was outstanding. No need for spikes or anything

Amazing hike!

Used snowshoes on a well-packed trail to Naylor Lake. The trail to Silver Dollar is rocky and right near avalanche possibilities (that was our opinion, however, the amount of snow up on the mountains is not significant due to high winds.) It's a short hike up but with the help of alltrails.com, we were able to trek in the deep stuff off trail on the way down. We just had fun and meandered in the 3 ft. of snow off-trail. Thanks AllTrails! We didn't stray too far from the trail either but you don't want to get lost out there!

I did this hike on 3/8, it was a little windy but an otherwise gorgeous day. Didn’t see too many other people out hiking.

Trail is snow packed and flooded/frozen over in spots. Snowshoes are not necessary but micro spikes are definitely helpful.

Wonderful trail, definitely moderate especially with the snow pack on the trail. It's highly recommended to use ice cleats as the second half of the trail is all packed snow which turned to ice in many spots. Beautiful views along the way and at the top. Mostly an uphill hike on the way in.
Not enough fresh snow today for snowshoes so they would be cumbersome on the packed snow but would provide better traction than plain boots.

Great spot for a sunrise hike!

A good low alpine mountain climb. Keep your head on a swivel for fast moving (sometime out of control) mountain bikers.

Did the hike on Sunday, 3/4, and the snow was packed down enough to hike in my hiking boots. I had Yaktrax on, which helped a lot after the sun got warmer and slushed up the snow on some of the steeper parts. The trail does take on a few different paths at points, but they all converge together eventually. Get there early, too! I got there at about 9:30, and the giant lot was already half full, and by the time I got down around 11:30, it was completely full.

Snow is packed enough to do in boots!

Was a good trail with some good views at the top. The hike up had a decent amount of ice and some snow. I made it without micro spikes but they would have helped after the first 1.5 miles or so.

Good hike with views to the higher peaks once you reach the west side of the loop. No snow on the trail in mid February.

Spikes were very useful on hike out. Beautiful day in Idaho springs
