The distance is best thing about this trail. Not much elevation change and a lot of abandoned roads. Watch out for bikers.

Fun trail to run. A couple of those hills are just plain evil which is always a plus. The trail is marked pretty well and was maintained for the most part. There was a small overgrown section and a downed tree on the path. I'll definitely come back to this one again.

I did this trail a couple of years ago and loved it. We didn't stick to the path highlighted in Red here however. We took the dashed line (shown in map) off-shoot to the Missouri River and saw River Otters swimming around. At the left end of the island looking at it here (no dashed lines shown), we found a trail that took us to the fork and saw great blue heron and was a cool place to see. Don't get lost however :-). All of this made for a long hike which was around 10 miles I'd guess.

Great running trail. Light traffic consisted of a couple hikers and a couple bikers. If you haven't been before be sure to leave yourself plenty of daylight or bring lights. My run turned out to be just over 15 miles due to a few wrong turns... oops. I'll be going back again for sure.

creek was dry no water but a good hike

Great trail to hike with lots to see. Horses also use the trial and there was a tremendous amount of manure on the trail today. More than I've ever seen on this trail

Hiked CCW the loop on the north side of Highway KK on Tuesday afternoon, 7/17/18. No one else had been on the trail all day as I encountered tons of spider webs spanning the trail.

Luckily, I didn't pickup any ticks even though the trail was a bit overgrown in places. I also encountered about 7 down trees crossing the trail. The primitive campground was empty and the spring down the hill from it was dry.

I didn't run into swarms of mosquitoes, but there seemed to be at least one that nagged me most of the hike in spite of my Deet.

The wildlife were pretty sparse. I encountered two deer but surprisingly no squirrels at all. The birds in the canopy were also rather quiet.

I've hiked this trail several times since 2015. All in all, this is a very nice hike.

My GPS tracked the loop at 3.6 miles. I hiked very leisurely which took me about 1 hour and 45 minutes including breaks at the primitive campground and the spring.

Very boring besides a couple waterways, you should really just bike it instead of hiking it. Lots of bugs. Better off going somewhere else.

Unmarked trail that doesn't go anywhere near the river. You basically meander through fields and clearings. I went off the path to make it more interesting but got ticks in the process. There is a tiny sand area to see the river, but for being an island it doesn't offer anything. You WILL need Bug Spray.

Nice winding trail, very peaceful. Has some stretches that I would love to come back and run. Also, according to the paper map provided on-trail, it is 14 miles.

Absolutely love this trail. By far my favorite trail to hike. The scenery changes often keeping it fresh. It is shared with horses so one must beware of horse piles along the trail.

As mentioned in other reviews, this trail is shared heavily with mountain bikers. Always have to be listening. Especially when on the steep single lane trail. Bikers do come flying down those often. Other than the bikers, this trail is beautiful and offers changes of scenery.

Went for a run the trail is only like 1.5 miles there is another trail that connects to it which might have made it longer. I did two loops of it for 3 miles. Went after a rainy afternoon trail was in decent condition but beware of piles of horse poop and TICKS left with two ticks on my after only a 3 miles run. Definitely do a full body check before getting into your car.

Nice easy terrain, mostly shade.

This was a fun trail for running. Yes, there were a lot of bikes, but it wasn’t too bad. Plenty of technical stuff with some gravel and dirt mixed in. Great times!

I love this trail! Note that the water in the bathrooms at the back of the trail is NOT for drinking. Watch out for horse dookie. There’s a great variety of terrain and views and it’s a very fun trail to run.

I do not find this as kid friendly. The trail it self is more like a rarely used atv path. The grass is pretty high through the trail at this time, **use bug spray if you plan to traverse this trail.** I tried to find the other trails listed on the map but was very difficult to find with all the growth. However on a positive note it was a nice stroll through it.

Not my first choice for hiking. Most of the traffic on this single lane trail is mountain bikes so you are constantly stepping off of the trail to let bikes zoom by you without warning. Trail has a section of a 1000 switchbacks that will annoy a hiker because there isn't much elevation change. Great fun when you are on a bike but when you are on foot not so much.

good trail for a recovery run or anyone wanting to try trail running, whether you have logged road miles or not. either running the whole trail or a run/walk combo, this is a relatively flat trail, both wide and single track; some roots and rocks but nothing too technical. crosses the park road a few time so anyone wanting to bail has some options. I did the cannon trail for 5.5 miles. the alltrails map for 6.9 miles is a combo of cannon and one other.

This trail is probably five stars for mountain biking, and I give it three stars for hiking. The trail is overall smooth and rolling, I've hiked it once and was constantly stepping aside for mountain bikers. I would say if you want to hike in this area, definitely do the Lewis & Clark trail just to the east of this location. I also found this trail got fairly boring without much in the way of scenery.

fair trail, some nice water features

great run...did the combined jack's loop and cattle ridge (2x) for a six mile run...mostly dirt single track, a lot of the trails are ruts from bikes, a few small creek crossings, good mix of open field and trees, well marked...lots of piles of horse poop!

good trail, enjoyed very much but I walked the legs off my lab and wife and I am old (lol). it is not a dog-friendly trail, the dog must be on a leash.give it a try.

in my opinion, this hike was pretty boring. it's more of a horse trail. walking it by foot isn't worth it

I live two minutes from his trail. This is my go to trail. It’s my happy spot. Recommend to anyone! I bring my dog and when my husband and I are done we go to the dog park! Amazing trail!

Low water section of trail along Meramec covered. Cut my hike short by 4 miles

well groomed trails. a bit rocky so bring along shoes with plenty of padding.

Beautiful scenery
