Light traffic. Great vista and trail along the river. Rocky. Many roots. Watch for black ice!

First attempt on this trail. Completely went the wrong way but I followed the blue trail near Uncas Lake. About halfway up the blue markings disappeared so I ended up making my own trail.

Green Falls Pond is a great loop to do with kids and dogs. Just a heads up, the gate leading down was locked 1/6/2018. Not sure if this is because of the logging work they are doing or if its closed for the winter. Add 3 miles (1.5 in and 1.5 out) to hike in and out from the gate: https://www.alltrails.com/explore/recording/recording-jan-06-04-24-pm--7. The pit toilet was still open at the swimming area, so the gate is probably closed until the logging work along the road is done.

fun time. easier hike, short distance but this is a great place to hang out and enjoy nature

Nice little loop

Nice woodsy trails full of Mt Laurel. Well marked trails. Lots of boulders and a small pond.

Parts of the trail had areas that looked like a small war zone. Many trees down looking like a nasty wind storm or tornado hit it. There were some boggy areas we assumed were from the recent rain ... waterproof boots might be helpful. Just before the descent to the vista view there is an area filled with cairns. Don't disturb them but do appreciate the work put in to create them. The vista views were amazing!

My humans took me to do this trail today. The first half of this trail was absolutely beautiful and well marked with white trailblazes. At the peak there are four man-made rock chairs which provide for a wonderful photo opportunity. Once you cross over 165 and approach what would be about the 4 mile mark you intersect with the North South Trail. These trails are marked with blue blazes. The white blazes end and there is no information to provide as to which way one should go to continue on the Mount Tom trail. We followed The blue markers heading south on the north-south trail.. Once you come out to a dirt road there is zero markings left for one to follow unless if you stay on the road (blue markers to left). According to the AllTrails map this is the wrong direction. From this point on regardless of which way you travel there are no markings anywhere. Hence, you really have no idea where you’re going other than if you’re all trails guide is telling you you are on the right path. I would not recommend this hike to anyone without having an AllTrails map. Definitely going to communicate with the Arcadia management team and inform them that the Lack of appropriate markings and information is out right dangerous for novice hikers. Other than that we had an absolutely beautiful hike. Wear shoes that are appropriate for wet muddy conditions.

Very popular regardless of the season. No local permit during the “off months” , after oct . Enjoyable stroll but you don’t really get away from it all.

Hiked there today after a heavy rain last night until this morning.. water was flowing! Awesome.. hikes into woods and grabbed the orange marked trail then ventured off here and there.. went towards devils oven rocky and steep lots of voids under rocks wouldn’t personally do it in summer could b good spot for snakes..went back down and continued on orange trail didn’t hike whole trail but have plans to go back great hike well

Easy enough walk to do. Trail easily visible and well marked. Certain areas along the trail had some frozen water spots. Nice little creek to admire that emptied into the cove. Beautiful views of the water. Trail along water is narrow so watch your step.

Great hike, Idk what people are talking about. I thought the orange blazed trails were marked fine. I loved the waterfall and the running streams through the trail. A little bit of a workout but very peaceful.

7-18, This trail map was not clear to follow. The trail was also not marked or maintained very well. Gillette’s castle itself was beautiful and I’m very happy we went. The views of the water were great. Took us a little over 45 mins

Little bit wet after rain the night before. Good views of the sound. Free in the winter.

Nice trail in Niantic. Has a surprisingly decent amount of up & down to it. Good views of a pond. Free parking at the trailhead.

Absolutely beautiful! The waterfalls are not to be missed!!

Do not do this path without the All Trails app or you will get lost. For first part off the road there are hardly any markers so stick close to the stream. Also two water crossings had no bridge across so we had to walk a mile around to a road and then cross a fallen tree to cross another.

Awesome trail. I came across this trail looking for a place to get a decent long run in. Had just a bit of everything from paved rolling road to soft single track. A few tough climbs but short enough to keep motivated to go on. I would also plan on your feet getting wet. It had rained the day before I arrived but there was still a good amount of creek crossings and marshy areas to navigate. And oh yeah about 3000’ of elevation gain.
I ran the entire out and back and my GPS put me at 26.1 miles. Do pay attention to the yellow Goodwin Trail markers, they are hard to spot in the changing autumn colors. I ran right past a few of them but I can’t complain about it, there were plenty of markers, missing them was my own fault.
Lastly, parts of the single track trail are very hard to navigate due to the amount of leaves that had fallen, the entire forest floor looked like a mix of reds and yellows, which does hide the rocks and roots that I call ankle breakers. Keep your head up (or down) and you’ll be fine.
Overall Richard Goodwin Trail is a must for anyone looking for a good day long adventure. I will certainly be going back.

Happy running-

Definitely not the quietest trail given how close you are to the main road but the scenery makes up for it in so many ways. My only wish would he for people to respect the signs that indicate which trails are not meant for running.

Nice trail.

Did this hike today with my humans. It was a lot of rock scrambling and climbing up and over and around. I only needed assistance in a few spots. We started at the Long Pond Trail head. Some of the trail is moderately wooded and almost seems like you’re walking down a deer Path. Hiking boots are definitely recommended for the rock scrambling!!! If you are used to hiking up North (Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire) you will find this relatively easy. For Rhode Island, this is a unique trail. This trail presents with the opportunity to do a little rock scrambling that is not common in many of the Rhode Island trails. Views of the Long Pond and El Pond at this time of year are minimal due to all of the heavy foliage. The trail is well-maintained with yellow blazes. There are a few areas where you need to stop and be mindful to find the markers. It took us about 50 minutes (We took a few minutes to view El Pond)to go from our starting point to where the trail ends at the Narragansett Trail North starting point. Our trip back was much quicker at 40 minutes. Although there is supposed to be no hunting in this part of the Rockville management area we still wore our orange vest. Keep in mind this is hunting season! Get out and enjoy!!!

Lots of dogs on Sunday.

Did this hike today with my humans. It was absolutely beautiful. My 20 pound body only needed assistance over one rock scramble. Pretty heavy water flow in the gorge but we managed to get across the log with no problem. Met some really cool canines on the trail. This is a definite must do. We will go back again!
