Long but rewarding hike. Lots of little water falls on the way. Great views of South Sister and Broken Top.

Nice hike, but can get very crowded. I have done this hike twice, both on weekdays mornings with a 7:30 start time. No line at the rock either time. By the time we started back down there were quite a few people on the trail. It's basically uphill all the way to the top but worth it for that cool photo. It's definitely not a casual stroll, so be prepared for a workout.

Definitely strenuous, recommend being in very good shape. Totally worth every second! Extraordinary views at every point. Truly stunning. Highly recommend

Good work out on a consistent uphill slope all the way to the top. Coming down is tough on knees and toes. But , it is all worth it! Good view and yes, the special Potato Chip rock!

Perhaps my favorite hike in San Diego. Challenging, especially the steep grade of the service road, and great views from the summit. Grab a map from the ranger if you’re not very familiar with this area, I had a little trouble finding my way around the loop to the summit the first time I did this hike.

great trail! worth the hike is suggest wearing hiking boots or sneakers. I wore chacos and my feet were fine just SUPER dirty at the end.
carry lots of water with you!
if you go on a warm /hot day wear swim gear so you go in the lake.

amazing but if you want solitude don'g go between Friday-Sunday.

For a continuous moderately paced hike, you can make it up to the summit in 1 hour. If you start right before 7 the mountain will shade you up until the last mile of the hike. Between 2- 1 1/2 mile point from the summit there seems to be an endless set of steps that are pretty challenging. Past the potato chip rock there is not much else and a radio station that ruins part of the view, but overall a decent hike.

Awesome trail, friendly people along the way just enough incline to get a good workout

Did on a hot day. Bring a lot of water! worth it for the fun potato chip rock pictures!

nice easy hike. At the end of the hike there's huge rocks and boulders you can navigate through to take in the beautiful views that stonewall peak has to offer.

This hike makes you work for it. One hour up & 30 minutes down. I started before the sun and there were plenty of other friendly folks on the trail.

A challenging hike with beautiful views!!! The potato chip rock at the peak was indeed very instagram worthy..

Great workout

Gorgeous hike. Had a nice snack at the lake once we got there. I'd suggest going early. We go up there at 7am and it wasn't too crowded. Started heading down again after 9am & passed a lot of people coming up, parking lot was packed when we got down & lots of cars parked on the road leading in.

Did as a 1-day trail run, took the Catalina Express ferry from San Pedro and started at Two Harbors towards Avalon (skipped the north part). Ran the 26 miles to Avalon in about 8 hrs along the "official" Trans Catalina Trail see https://www.catalinaconservancy.org/userfiles/files/Hiking%20Map%202017%2011x17(1).pdf (it goes by airport via Sheep Chute Road).

Definitely some pretty areas. I like the ridge north of Little Harbor and the section south of Black Jack Campground (where the buffalo are).

Least favorite was Sheep Chute road and area near the airport. I'd consider doing the bypass along Cottonwood trail as shown in Red on AllTrails, but I guess that skips the water at the airport. Also it looks like Google Maps doesn't even show Cottonwood Trail so make sure you have this AllTrails map or a USGS version.

3 bottles of Gatorade was less than enough, but was able to refill one at the airport halfway. Pretty hot out there in late July. Very arid and dry. Could imagine it being more pretty in the winter.

Remember the ferry takes over an hour each way which eats into your trail time. Still I do recommend doing it as a dayhike trail run.

DEFINITELY read these reviews before taking this hike!!!! It is worth it once you get to the top but getting there can be challenging especially in July when I went!!! Bring lots of water, hat, shades, and wear light clothing. Enjoy the workout!!!!

Loved this trail when I hiked it the first time. Unfortunately, I went at 7am and the trail was closed due to excessive heat. :(

Great first hike. Beautiful scenery.

This is an amazing hike but NOT FOR THE SUMMER! I went with a group of 6 including myself and we left way too late. Should note it was the end of July at 10am. Moderate hike but the sun is what killed us. Legit almost thought I was going to pass out. If you go during the summer don't bring your dog, and bring a crap ton of water!

Awesome! Worth it when you get to the top

Extremely hot, and no shade at all. Wait for half an hour for the potato-chip photo. Good workout but too hot.

Very easy trial. Small incline at the beginning-maybe a tenth of a mile and that’s about it. Lots of switchbacks and the views all the way to the top were amazing. Loved the stairs leading to the summit. However huge infestation of termites at the summit. So definitely didn’t hang out at the summit for too long. They flew and landed all over my friend. The views at the summit are definitely worth it. It was beautiful. We went early enough we didn’t see any snakes at all but we were definitely definitely wary and watching out for them. Definitely do this hike. You won’t be disappointed.

Great hike but it’s rated hard for a reason. I am an avid hiker and it was challenging. If you are looking for a less strenuous hike, start in Ramona. On a positive note, it is BEAUTIFUL & a great workout.

Very nice hike. Trail is well maintained and not too difficult. We started at about 6:15 am and it was still too crowded for my liking, but the scenery is beautiful and it is a good work out. If you go beyond the Potato Chip rock there are great boulders to relax on and enjoy some solitude!

Awesome trial! My husband & I never hiked & decided let’s try it. Wow did it kick our butts. We also started at 1300 on a 100 degree day (don’t do that). It took us 3hours round trip. Beautiful views. Definitely wish it had more signs on how far to go. We brought 2-40oz hydroflasks, & a gallon of water + don’t forget some protein or PB&J’s! Overall amazing!
