I love this trail. I completed it last month before the snow. The nature and views are beautiful. I loved watching the train pass in the distance. I am a Colorado native so I never really feel inclined to go back to most trails but I will definitely hike this trail again. There is an $8 fee to get into Eldorado State Park, or $5 to park outside the park and walk in, but you can tell the state park puts the money to good use. This has to be one of the cleanest trails I’ve seen. There aren’t too many tactical areas. I went counter clockwise at the loop, so going down the incline back to the trailhead was rather rocky and steep. I almost fell at one point, but it was only for a short stretch.

I love this trail! Will keep coming back for sure!

I'll go again and again! I prefer weekdays, much more peaceful but always fun anytime. The eagle people are always nice and let you watch the eagles and always a great chance to make friends with the chipmunks.

Gorgeous views at the end and at Clouds Rest. Went on a Wed in November and only saw 5 people.

Took less than 7 hours excluding lunch. I’m fit but not in hiking at altitude shape.
-4 hours up and i took lots of mini breaks.
-2.5 hours down without stopping.

Decent AT&T reception at a couple of spots on the way. Solid reception at Clouds Rest.

The toughest I have ever done!! absolutely worth it! Me and friend went during off season when the cables came down. If that's the case please bring safety equipment (carabineers, harness, leather gloves) if you are planning to do the 400 ft. climb along the face of Half Dome. We did not have that equipment so I didn't do it, because safety always comes first! Have a safe hike guys and don't forget to bring lots of water and salted snacks :)

As AllTrails lists this route as an 'out-and-back' and we summited Chaplains, we thought we could be able to descend via Precipice. After attempting to descend for about 0.2mi, it seemed unwise to continue because of the grade and ice forming over the steep face...let alone going down the iron rungs. While signs warn that this isn't recommend to descend from Chaplains via Precipice, the app's distinction of an 'out-and-back' gives a contrary and potentially dangerous impression.

Wow!! That will be the reaction of 99.99% of people who do this hike, the other .01% are most likely crazy people. The magical, towering mountains around this mountain lake are simply breathtaking. It was a cold day with ice and a little snow in the higher elevations of the trail. The lake isn’t frozen over yet and the water still shows the bright blue color it’s known for. We clicked it at 8 miles round trip. Took us about 3 hrs up and 2 hrs back down. There is a few spots with fallen trees that you will need to go over or under. But overall the trail is very well maintained and easy to navigate.

Beautiful overlooks throughout, challenging rock scrambles and a well maintained fire road on the way back

Exhilarating trail. Tough in some sections but not impossible. First rung&ladder challenge is the toughest... if you can do this one, you can do the rest. In the colder months, leave plenty of time because there’s ice in many areas. For a short hike with a relatively small increase in elevation, this trail packs a punch. Definitely can’t do this just once!

View is spectacular. Snow and ice on the trail.

Not overly impressed by this easy hike. For a “popular” trail it was pretty poorly marked and it’s really just a short loop through the forest (the 2nd half is paved). The bridge is kind of cool from my engineering standpoint, but otherwise there are much better trails that offer better views in the area so I wouldn’t really recommend this one.

We didn’t go all the way to the lake based on feedback from various other hikers that it wasn’t worth the trek down but we hiked the full ridge and quite enjoyed it. Very quiet hike with a couple marmot sightings.

This is my favorite hike in the Smokies. Beautiful views and lots of amazing natural wonders to take in. Can be difficult at times but is well worth the effort. Can't wait to do this again when the wild flowers are in bloom.

Cool short hike. The only problem is since it’s so short, it’s very popular so you can’t really hike your speed because of the crowd.

as of today no snow. great views. took 5 hrs and 45 minutes round trip. highly recommend the hike

What an amazing trail

Four of us did this as a backpacking overnight this weekend, and for 3 of us it was our first time backpacking. We made it to the 2nd lake in 4 1/2 hours with packs and lots of breaks (we are in average shape.. only some of us hike regularly).
This trail was challenging and rewarding for a first time hiking with 20+ lb bags (we only hiked to the 2nd lake to camp and explored a few more lakes the next day). The trail is a very steady incline with some big stone steps here and there, but with trekking poles it was doable, even at altitude (I would describe it as "challenging" but far from "brutal"). What was somewhat brutal was camping in below 15 degrees ( my thermometer read closer to 10 than 15 at one point in the evening). Sleeping in the cold was not fun, but the sun really warmed us up in the morning.
On Saturday morning there was smoke from a forest fire which made the visibility poor, which was a bit discouraging, but we decided to go for it anyway. To the guy who said to us "Have fun breathing in smoke all night"... just so you know the wind came through and blew out all of the smoke that afternoon. We had perfectly clear weather that night and the next day.

A fun hike with Kalina Miller today on this easy to find trail with some excellent views. The inclines are not so steep really and there are some nice level sections and a few short downhills. Enjoy the scenery and take lots of pics.

Incredible hike! I would do this again although I wouldn't try to be daring due to the recent death that was on the news about the Indian couple Vishnu Viswanath and Meenakshi Moorthy in October 2018. Thinking back, I even walked down inside a fissure that seemed to have solid grounding underneath between the rocks but I would not attempt that again. This place is so remarkable, you can spend hours taking photos.

Not much to see on the way there...nothing spectacular BUT when you get to Cloud's Rest, it's like the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Views are amazing. We had lunch at the top. It was so nice.

Such a fun little trail! Small bit of scrambling to the rocks at the top. Spikes were useful but probably not required today. Lovely views. Port-o-let at the trailhead. (I always find it useful know!)

It's ok, but there is so much nicer around

Like said with previous reviews the scenic trail was closed but I had my skates with me so I put those bad boys on and took a few laps around the lake . Be careful there are some soft spots. 11/12/18

Really beautiful hike around this time of the year, this hike offers some of the best views Washington trails has to offer. The lake is starting to freeze up and theres lots of snow and black ice once you start getting to higher elevations so be cautious! I would say this trail falls more on the moderate side than hard, it took us 3 hours to get to the top and 2 hours going back down. Would recommend this hike for everyone!

There are rattlesnakes so be careful, but don't miss out! This is a great workout for people looking to improve beginner hiking skills. Lots of great views, really cool area for rock climbers, and a little history hidden on the trail.

Absolutely stunning trail

We did not go all the way to mount leconte. My hubby and I stopped at the bluff. From the trail head to the bluff, it’s about 2.2 miles. What a great hike. Really loved this trail. The mossy trees and creek were amazing. The arch was super cool. The bluff had icicles hanging that were falling down like missles. Loved it. This is a very popular trail so go early.
