Went 09/22/18-09/23/18. Had such an amazing time and loved hiking in the lean-to. Definitely a little challenging for the novice biker but worth the challenge

Gorgeous. 9 hours for 14 miles including breaks, photos, crampon strapping, knee injury.
I saw a lot of idiots attempting hikes to MT. Marcy wearing only converses, Easy Sporits, jeans, paper print out maps, basically not being able to survive the night alone.

I was here in Feb and it turns out half of the loop was closed. There was a trail that continued on, but not sure how far. Nice hike. Park on the road in the winter if you drive a car!

A lot harder than I anticipated but quite beautiful.

My honey and I hiked this trail and enjoyed it. Very well maintained trail with a few fun rock scrambles. We will definitely hike it again in spring.

Great pics along the way

what A great little challenge lots of rock scrambling ,the was socked in with clouds we waited a bit and it cleared reward us with a beautiful view.

Excellente activité physique avec de très belles vues.

Breathtaking views at the summit and several points on the way up as well. The trail is clearly marked and well traveled. Steady uphill climb with some rocky parts to keep it interesting. I went to see the fall foliage and was not disappointed in the slightest!

Decent trail, there's is a view point which makes you think that it's the summit, when the summit is actually in the trees marked by a tiny marker. Took me and my friends a bit to find it.

beautiful hike. quick rewards. stunning views. be sure to go in October!

Beautiful scenic views with great autumn colours in full bloom. The trail has good elevation to keep things interesting along the way. Hiking shoes or boots are a must to handle the rocky terrain.

Did this hike Oct 07. Very challenging. Very wet. Running water on rock climb to summit. Rewarding to reach the summit, but unfortunately clouded in, so no views.
Hike back to LOJ via Lake Arnold trail is looooong! 11 hrs total.

Nice hike to the top, Did it in about a hour!! Beautiful views love fall!!

Went for a family hike with 2 teenage daughters. Good amount of elevation and difficulty level to keep everyone interested. For those more adventurous you can venture off and find your own way. Will do it again.

Our scout Troop 60 from Victor, NY hiked with Billy & Judy (and Milo) along a muddy and difficult McKenzie trail. Wish the weather had cooperated so we could have enjoyed the view, but had a great hike regardless. Boys did Baker Saturday and McKenzie and Haystack thru herd trail on Sunday. Looking forward to completing the other three and getting a patch.

We did this hike to complete the saranac six and I will not do it again. The hike is pretty and challenging enough to give you a work out but there is no view and it is too long. The only view comes at the false summit and the true summit is 20 minutes farther.

I love this kind of hiking. It took us 1 hour to get tho the turn off for McKenzie. It took us 2 hours to summit from there. You definitely have to pay attention to your footing and it is an uphill workout. The last hour is rock scrambling and climbing. I would absolutely do this hike again to see the views at the top as this was a cloudy day. It took 2 hours to get back to the split. From there we turned R and went to the Haystack herd trail which was .4 miles up on the L. Haystack was a quick easy hike after McKenzie and we were back to our car in 7 hours total time with 2 of the sixers completed. The trail was very wet after a night of rain. I really believe we could have done it faster in better conditions. It is definitely challenging but not as dangerous as other reviews would lead you to believe. I was nervous because of the reviews and I was pleasantly surprised. I loved this hike even with no views and our dog summited too.

The trail is only for advanced hikers because of the steepness and lack of maintenance of this trail. You will need sticks and prepare to be on all fours occasionally. Hugging trees and grabbing roots is necessary on the steep spots. We hiked after a rain and the trail was also slippery. The view at the top is worth the effort for a view of fall colors. There is much erosion of the trail and a very few places have only a very narrow remaining trail. Hug the mountain or a tree in that situation.

very nice, did with the family and it took me a while as I'm new at hiking. We did the trail with 6 kids, 2 dogs and 4 adults!

Pretty, but lots of dips due to truck or four-wheeler tires. Left lots of mud on the main parts of the trails.

Steep and challenging.

It was a great hike. We had a 2 and 3 year old and they loved it. It’s was there first hike.

Nice trail with waterfall. Moderate level with children. Easy access.

Hiked the full loop starting on the side by the fire station. Some parts of the trail were poorly marked (especially when locating the entrance to the second part of our hike near the electrical towers, and beginning that portion of the trail.) the hike was absolutely beautiful, and lots of changes of scenery to take in. Took approximately 2 hours on each side of the river. Very lovely, all in all - so many waterfalls - and not extremely challenging.

Great views, quiet. Mostly well maintained. Some tough spots. Would do it again.

Easy and beautiful hike!
Took us around 3 hours with long stops.
Amazing summit view and all along the way, highly recommend!

pretty wood bench and wooden bridge.
maybe more fun
