Nice loop with about 2/3 of the distance along Badin Lake. Some up-and-down but mostly flat. Passes several campgrounds and several established primitive lakeside campsites. Well marked with white paint blazes. Well-maintained considering it receives little traffic. Overall, probably the best dayhiking loop in Uwharrie National Forest.

This hike is also known at the Shallow Ford Loop Trail; it forms a grand tour of Alamance County's Shallow Ford Natural Area. More relief than you might expect for eastern NC. Mixture of river side and upland hiking. Bugs are fairly bad along the river in the summer. Trails are well-marked with plastic diamond blazes color-coded to match the trail color on the map; also all intersections are signed. Nice Haw River views on the west side of the loop. Overall, pleasant if not outstanding hike.

Love this trail, quite easy with some rocky part. You can tailer to how long you want to hike. There are more mountain bikers than hikers but everyone is polite and share the road.

My friends and I completed this hike in May. It takes you to a beautiful overlook. You will not see much on the hike up, but since it’s a relatively short hike, the view is absolutely worth it. We went early and had the overlook to ourselves for some time.

Nice trail. Very crowded at times but everyone is mostly friendly. Most of the bikers are good and give u commands and of course some are rude and come very close because they dont want to hit their brakes. Its hard to fix stupidity! Not the trails fault and I will keep going back

Makes me sweat

Great exercise trail

I’ve done this trail a couple times and it has amazing views. The first time there was only a couple people on the trial, but this last time the trail was packed ( it was also a holiday weekend). The trail is well kept and easy to follow. This last time I took my 4 year old up it and it took about an hour each way with his little feet.

This trail is kinda ruff so boots or a stout pair of trail runners are the best way to go. I used trail runners but wished I had boots. The blaze markers are nice and big so you won’t get lost. I went on a week day so there was no one but me on the trail. Sign in sheet is in the park area and is no fee to hike. There’s a really nice but sort of small park with grills and tables, they have paddle rentals but I don’t know there rates. Bathrooms look nice from the outside.

Started intending to include the Cook's Wall Trail and Moore's Knob Trail. Realized the day was getting long, and cut most of Moore's Knob out. Was a very nice hike. Not too strenuous. It will make you feel like you did something. The highlights were House Rock and Cook's Wall Outlook. At least a 270° clear view at the Outlook. Beautiful to say the least. Even the soaring buzzards had a certain majesty to them from the Outlook. I believe there was a bald eagle amongst them, but didn't get a shot of it. I guess the buzzards we're trying to tell this fat boy something, which may have had some to play in shortening the trek. I should title this There And Back Again: A Short, Fuzzy, Fatboy's Tale. No Dragons, Just buzzards. Lol!

Not even hiking. It's just really good walking track. The view on the summit is amazing :)

Nice trail, ran into more mountain bikers than hikers. There are quite a few rocky parts but it is a nice trail and well maintained. Good hike.

This is a super easy trail, relatively flat and not too rooty, but still quite nice. it is rare to come across many people in the leg past the bridge. You are also along the banks of Lake Brandt almost the entire time so you have a nice cool breeze in sumer. Plenty of wildlife, herons and gulls in the lake, an occasional snake, and deer tend to hang out in the area a lot as well.

This was a great trail with lots of shade. There were a few nice spots where the view of the lake was awesome. The kudzu at the end of the trail was a nice surprise. The trail is pretty flat, but the woods are pretty. We also got to see a mama deer and her fawn.

Great trail. Spectacular view.

A pretty walk through the woods. The trail is well marked and not too crowded early in the morning.

Great trail, view is amazing, but a little too short for my taste.

I do this trail so often. it is my favorite loop in the Triangle.

Great hike!

Great trail along the lake.

Very nice and easy walking. Long but easy!!

Wonderful views. Can't wait to go back. Go early to beat some of the crowd!!

Great Trail!! Great work out...

Good hike. The Wolf Rock Trial combined with this one makes a better hike. Great views!

The best trail in the park in my opinion. The day I hiked it was super foggy/rainy so views from the summit were zero. The fog up there made it feel like being in a cloud, so it was still very neat.

wonderful trail in the shade!

Calling this a loop is a little deceiving. You have to connect the trails together by walking along a busy road with not a great shoulder. A portion of the trail in the beginning is also quite overgrown with kudzu.
