This was a good hike with the sound of the stream running adjacent to the trail much of the way and pretty wildflowers. It was very warm on our hike and it made the it that much more difficult. The way up is a constant uphill grade and gave me a good workout. There were fish jumping in the beautiful lake and I was able to catch one! Quite a drive to get there but worth it IMO.

Amazing hike.

Beautiful hike! Far from “lightly trafficked” though - got an early start and only saw folks that had backpacked up at the lake. Passed dozens and dozens of folks headed up on our way back down. Don’t forget dog leashes if you have them - leash laws enforced July 1-Labor Day Weekend. A bear crossed our path on the way up but it was more afraid of us and just took off.

Beautiful lake with blue and almost turquoise waters. Snowcapped mountains behind. Wildflowers in bloom. Couple snowy areas to cross, but they are easily passable and crampons were not needed. Perfect weather. Sunny with a light breeze. My GPS watch clocked at just under 10 miles from parking lot to sitting area at Sawtooth Lake & back. Took us 4.5 hours + 1 hour at the lake. Would definitely recommend!

Dispersed campsites on road up to trailhead (get there early - fill up quickly) & pay campground at the trailhead with trash dumpster & potable water.

Very pleasant hike. Several spots had amazing views. Good variety in the available views.

Beautiful hike. Go in the morning to avoid people.

Beautiful hike. Some open fields in the beginning with gorgeous views of McGowan Peak. The hike itself is very easy with little gain. We never really got a good view of Brideveil Falls, but there is a little trail off to the side before you reach the rover crossing to see the other set of falls that were good. You can climb down on the rocks to get a really good view here. The river crossing was easy, but it did go up about 1.5ft and was about 20ft across (and is quite cold). We could have turned around at the crossing and it still would have been a great hike.

Beautiful trail. The wildflower garden in the meadow as you cross Iron Creek before climbing up to Alpine Lake was the most beautiful and extensive that I have seen anywhere! Sawtooth Lake and Goat Lakes are the most scenic of the Sawtooth area. We backpacked on to Observation Peak (trail to the top) for fantastic panoramic Sawtooth views and photos.

This trail is awesome and we can’t wait to do it again. We backpacked up to the lake and stayed the night. The hike to the lake took us 2:15 to get to the lake and 1:45 to make it back. FYI, No snow in July.

Readers need to take note of the intervals of the contour lines. The intervals on the map are large and if your not aware the map can be deceiving.

There are several excellent campsites on the south side of the lake (3 established sites right on the lake and 2-3 about 50 meters off the lake). There is a beach on the south sound of the lake that is perfect for swimming. We were planning on camping on the north side but couldn’t find the trail so we stayed on the south side of the lake.

We hiked the summit west of the lake for fun. There wasn’t a trail so se just scaled the mountain for a fun day hike.

If you feel like hiking in a fishing pole in, there were a lot of fish jumping in the lake during the morning hours.

Bring bug spray!

fairly easy grade. lots of flowers. don't use Google maps to route you to the trail head or you end up at a closed road. lake area is burned out.

Did this yesterday! Beautiful hike, has everything; creeks, waterfalls, meadows, forest and lakes of course. Pretty easy going until you pass the creeks, keep an eye out for the little trails between the switchbacks if you feel up to it, definitely speeds things up! Still pretty muddy and snowy at the top, made the going a little tough at times. Thankfully the way down is much faster and easier! Got some crazy blisters so dont forget bandaid's, bugspray and sunscreen (got pretty burnt too.)

Went two days ago. Best all-around hike ever. So great. So beautiful.

JULY 6, 2018: got a late start that morning for the hike, it was already starting to get very warm out. the hike was ok, VERY CONFUSING at times (there are a lot of random paths). if you stay on track then you will be fine. i only went up to the first lake (Alpine Lake), which was beautiful! some of my friends continued to Sawtooth Lake, but got lost and said it was a struggle the rest of the way. they said the lake was amazing though.
definitely some uphill switchbacks for a ways, but decent.
BRING BUG SPRAY— THE MOSQUITOS ARE VICIOUS!

Hiked this trail on the fourth of July. Wildflowers were out in abundance.

This trail is great! definitely going to do this at least once a week

Probably one of the most beautiful hikes in the Sawtooths. The trail itself is scenic not to mention Alpine Lake. Just hiked this with my dogs in late June; very little snow at the lake this year compared to years past. Lots of sun hiking through the canyon, make sure you wear your sunscreen!

Beautiful hike! We camped at Alpine Lake instead of Sawtooth Lake, and we’re glad we did. It was a pretty easy hike (great for trying to get used to the elevation). The lake was stunning and the sky was the bluest we’ve seen. The stars were unparalleled. We did see a deer, but no other wildlife. There was a little snow between Alpine Lake and Sawtooth Lake (6/2-6/4), but it was very easy to traverse. The bugs were what you should be expecting from an alpine lake - definitely bring bug spray. Highly recommend!

Nice hike with great views. Alpine lake and sawtooth lake were outstanding. It took us 2hrs up and 2hrs down. We didn’t stop for very long though because the mosquitoes were terrible.

Morningstar from the upper lodge to the lower lodge is now marked "Bike riders only".

Beautiful trail. We got up to snowy, slushy Sawtooth Lake June 14th.

One of my favorite hikes I have done. Had a bachelor hike for my twin brother. It's almost up hill the whole way up. Amazing scenery the entire way. Once you get to the top were you can see the lake it's a step trail all the way to the lake. Very rewarding hike. I would rate this difficult. because of the elevation gain in 3.5 miles. I will be hiking this trail again. Just remember its down hill once you hike back out of the lake.

Really the best. Just epic views on the top half. Lake is gorgeous. Totally inspiring. Bottom third a little boring but goes fast. Fair amount of snow on trail on July 1 but not a problem.

Beautiful. River crossing was a little difficult. Got wet. Never really found the falls but...

The Crown Point Rail-Trail is a nice and easy walking path. The trailhead starts at the Crown Point campgrounds in Lake Cascade State Park. The trail offers some nice views of the clear water lake, small inlet sandy beaches, pine woods, small meadows and ponds. As mentioned below, there are many smaller trails that take you down to the water’s edge as well as some that go off into the wooded areas.

6/27/18 There are only a few small patches of well packed snow to cross. Enjoy.

Great trial, I would not call it moderate if you are carrying a pack and are over 40.The last bit before reaching the lake is strenuous. The fishing was fantastic, this isn't a moderately traveled trail. More like a very popular trail. All camping spots were filled Friday night. Saturday brought several groups of day hikers and Mountain bikers. Do not get the direction to the trail head from All Trails, leads to a closed road. Turn at Edna creek and follow the signs

Good, clean fun. A solid trail.

Absolutely incredible trail, very well maintained and just breathtakingly beautiful in every direction. We spent two days up at Alpine lake June 13th and 14th, the weather was great and trail was clear until you reach the lake where there’s still a lot of snow, but is still very accessible.
