Definitely need a fully charged phone to keep track of the trail! Lost track of the ribbons once the trail tapered off, and had to search for stacked rocks in order to know where to go until you find the Jeep trail. Good luck!

Overall pretty cool hike. View was nice at the top, but I would love to see it with Shaver full of water. All trails app isn’t really effective, it pulls you away from main trail. Also trail Head is a little hard to find with a ton of wash out debris blocking the main path and a incorrect path to its left that will lead you straight up the mountain. Good luck have fun, I wouldn’t go alone....

The route shown on alltrails isn't well marked, if marked at all, up until you get to the fork half-way up. You need to keep you eyes open so you don't get too far off trail. Taking the left at that fork also appeared to be off trail as well with the random stone cairn every once in a while. It's fairly straight-forward to find your way back to the main trail though.

Pretty difficult for even a 4x4 w/ 3" lift. Really glad we aired down before starting, parts of the trail are washed out and had alot of rocks some really deep (and scary) ruts. After 2 miles, came across a closed gate and had to turn around. We went into the sequoia foothills visitor center to ask about it, and was told it is a park ranger only trail. If this is really the case I wish there was sign at the start of the road.

Definitely a hard hike during the winter, but if you can make it to the peak... get ready to be amazed!

Fun trail but should be rated more difficult for off roading. We had to stop and reverse about a mile in because of a deep 4 foot rut on one side and a drop off on the other. Will attempt again when we have someone else with us in case things go bad

27 degrees when we started with a little snow and frost, but it was perfect. Highly recommend for a last minute pre snow hike.

how do I get gate access? or is it open during the seasons?

The trail is labaled here HARD , but I think it is medium.
The first part of the trail is a steep , but later on it turns to a relatively flat or slow slope walk on the ridge. The last part joins a jeep road to bald mountain peak, so I had lots of vehicle company. Bald peak has a observation deck tower and offers great views of Shaver lake and the area. Although the trail is marked well, with color ribbons ,where there are trees and with piles of stones is the more exposed areas - still I lost the trail several times and used the app to return to the track.

Fun trail that is just challenging enough for my 98 Wrangler TJ with a 3" lift on 33's no lockers or winch. Made it to Red Lake, despise the "aggressive bear sighting" and past the Coyote Lake gate which is very rocky with minimal damage. Ended up turning around after a bit because it was time to head home. Big rock option on the way to Red Lake was fun and a good place for pictures.

Super fun run. Make sure your rig is built enough and you are a competent driver.

Good trail. Restrooms at Red Lake. Nice camping spots. Experienced drivers won't need lockers, at least to Red Lake, makes for a good challenge. I didn't make it to Coyote Lake. Currently have a 3.5" lift on a '17 JKU. Getting a 4" spring put on for the rest of the trail to Coyote to minimize damage.

Great off-road took my Toyota Tundra And had lots of fun

The Dusy is one tough trail.. So do not go alone and be prepared for breakage.

After 2 days of intense wheeling we completed the trail but wished we had more time and could have spent 4 days or so doing it.. 2 days was pretty brutal.

have fun!

Beautiful hike. It was harder getting down than up!

Beautiful views of Shaver Lake, watch tower with swing at the top! First half of the hike was pretty hard, straight up hill, climbing along rocks- then mellows out the rest of the way. Followed the pink ties and stacked rocks. Got a little lost on the way back and had to back track- pulled out the all trails map though and found the trail again. Definitely start early, most of the trail is exposed- hence bald mountain!

Great hike with beautiful end view! There was still snow on the trail when we went so some of the markers were covered up. The trail markers are stacked rocks, but they're pretty staggered. If you can't find them just follow the tire tracks. This trail is used frequently by rock crawlers. We did see a bear on the way down so it would probably be a good idea to bring bear spray. Can't wait to go again soon!

Hiking this trail made you feel a bit like a mountain goat! Beautiful views made the hike worthwhile.

Great trail and great views! Couple bumper busters, 3.5" lift with 35's on a Jeep Rubicon did just fine on this trail.

A great destination for camping with a trail that's not too crazy for a usually heavily loaded off road vehicle. If I remember correctly, I believe there's only a few challenging parts to get through. Loved taking the trip with my hubby and our dog because there's hardly ever other people there. We usually have a lake to ourselves. I'm looking forward to taking our daughter when she gets a little older.

Great trail, challenging and beautiful. Starts steep and mellows out in a meadow before the final summit pushes. There were still patches of snow on the ground around 8k ft up on Monday, May 29. Have to agree with the last review that the trail is not well marked once you get to the meadow and again when you're following the creek path. It was very easy to get lost but luckily the snow-capped mountains to the east helped me keep my bearings and find the trail again. Parts of the trail area doubles for jeeps and ATVs but their trail starts in a totally different place so it's not like you can follow them back down. All in all a great trail but could use more TLC

First let me say that this trail is magnificent and beautiful. And the top is absolutely amazing. That said, you better have some serious navigation skills because it is not well marked and easy to get lost. My girlfriend and I were the only ones up on the mountain Sunday and we got lost and had to sleep there for the night. We made it out because of the good people at Fresno County Sheriffs search and rescue.

Beautiful hike but better be prepared.

Very beautiful hike and even in at there was snow patch and I went last Wednesday! Loved seeing all the rock formations

nice trail with great view's
