Beautiful views of the Bay and grazing cows. Best to go early to avoid the heat...even during the Spring.

Great hike, especially in the winter when it's not too hot as there isn't a lot of shade. Green hills and cows grazing on the hillside. Muddy due to the recent rains.

Great trail run this afternoon!

As mentioned, great workout hike. Easy to find TH and not a ton of parking. Trail was in good condition and lots of green rolling hills. At first the elevation isnt too bad however by mile 2 you will be sweating. I took the Gossip Rock Spur. I didnt see many people at the top however once you come down trail gets super busy

Great hike and less traffic!

Breathtaking views, really light traffic once you get away from the trail heads. It’s definitely one of the hardest trails I’ve ever done, but also one I’ll never forget. Plenty of cute cows will stare at you as you make your way to the top, so prepare to have you heart stolen. Piece of advice though? Mind their poop!

Excellent hike for spring season. Perfect weather with breathtaking views. Hike is long but not super hard.
Loved it!!

Decided to do this as a dayhike to train for Whitney later this year. Definitely found myself wishing I was overnighting it. Beautiful hike with plenty of solitude. Lots of up and down on the way up, which means there's still plenty of climbing to be done on the way back. Rose peak is not a high prominence peak, so the views at the top are less rewarding than the breeze at the top, but it's still a nice perspective. Last few miles were particularly tough just because of distance (closer to 20 miles). Took a short detour up to the water spigot at sunol backpack camp to refill on the way back (boiled my water as it is untreated), before cutting down the backpack road towards little yosemite to go around the last bit of uphill on the mcorkle trail. Exhausted and sore, but happy i made the hike.

Great trail with great scenaries. Found 'golden mushroom' at the zigzag bay leaf trail on Saturday.

Hard.. Very nice views

great scenery, however, be careful of cows during calving season (spring). we got chased by a mother even though we were trying to walk around the calves who were on the trail.

anybody running this or just me?

The trail was closed partly, which was a bummer. But, the parts that were open were pretty nice. It was crowded.

Really enjoyed this hike. Lots of wildlife, and the only other people I saw on the trail were at the peak coming from the other side. Entry gate was free today (weekdays?) so no attendant, but I lucked out and caught a ranger as he was leaving who was happy to help me out with the wilderness permit. The trail is pretty well maintained and despite the recent rains, I had minimal issues with mud. The fog was still lifting when i reached the top, so the view was a nice hybrid of landscape and mist.

The trail was closed after 0.8 miles as of 01-14-18.

Spectacular city views ...

Great workout on Christmas day -- perfect sunny temps, lots of bovine friends -- highly recommended. Will definitely plan on connecting to Mission Peak next time.

Great workout! There are extended periods walking up hill... not the steepest grades, but you will feel the burn. Descent can be tough on the knees, so wear good footwear!

Hiked 12-31-17. Overcast, but a very temperate day. I hiked the Eastside of the loop going to the water tank between post numbers 21 and 23. Then followed the west side back. Great add on for this hike. I enjoyed the olive groove, the views of pleasanton, the the quiet of the west of the ridge. Did 8.5 miles

Nice hike, especially if you live in the area and don't want to drive to more popular trails. Was super green after the rains earlier this year. And, cows!

Nice hike. Not really "hard."

Good hike for a good workout! Scenery is lacking. Lots of wind.

The best work out you can get with Beautiful views!!

Did this at the end of October and was a great time since it wasn’t too hot. It was sunny so sun protection was still necessary as there was almost no shade. It’s a steady uphill ascent and my thighs were definitely burning. But....the view up top was worth it!! The only thing I didn’t like were the hoards of people also hiking....no parking!! That said, my friends and I enjoyed this and would so it again.

I love this hike and have been on it a few times. I would consider it to be moderate (difficult trails, to me, involve climbing over rocks or trails with sheer drops) It’s best to go in the spring or fall when the weather is not got, as the trail does not provide any shade. There are some pretty amazing vistas, especially in the early mornings worth the clouds/fog.

There’s a ton of nature to see, including turkeys, ground squirrels, turtles, deer, quail, hawks, and especially cows, which you can walk right alongside. Keep in mind that as great as it is to be so close to the cows, that also means lots of “mud pies” everywhere you step along the trails.

I recommend starting up the Flagstaff trail early in the morning and then stopping by the pond for a break, and heading down via the Indian Joe Creek trail. The hike takes about 2.5-3 hours

Other things to note: There’s a $5 cash only entrance fee. Also the restrooms are not great, so I recommend stopping elsewhere beforehand (eg Sunol super stop)

Trails were great and views were amazing.
But BEWARE: While I was running out there this morning, my Jeep was broken into. They smashed my back window and stole my workout bag. Luckily I had nothing valuable in it.
