Some forks in the trail are not marked at all, so this turned a bit into a guessing game. When you get to the parking lot, go on the unmarked wider trail and just a bit farther down will be a sign. We went with young children and took the wrong one from the start, which added a lot of time. It was pretty, but our kids were over it by the time we actually found the waterfall.

Also, the day we went there were a LOT of active spiderwebs that we had to gently push through. (ALL had spiders in them.) Just be prepared for that.

But this was very beautiful and only about 40 mins from SW Fort Wayne.

First, this place is huge, I’ve went twice already and still have been everywhere. The trails are not marked very well at all but I enjoy just walking wherever my curiosity leads me and I have a good enough sense of direction that it’s not a problem for me to find my way back. You also get cell signal so you can just mark your car on maps and follow that back if you need the extra help.
I went on a Thursday morning and only saw two other people walking and one biker. I then went on a Saturday morning and holy hell it was busy and there were so many bikers. The trail gets narrow in parts so this makes navigating bikers tricky at times. I wouldn’t go back on a weekend.

beautiful scenery and a lot to explore and see. I'd rate this as more moderate but there a quite a few stairs and inclines. Paths are marked and clear.

This trail is a true hidden gem. one of the prettiest in Indiana.

The Shades has the best trails in the state. Prepare to walk in creekbeds and take extra shoes and socks.

easy walking

Beautiful, large variety of difficulty.

Took the whole family. Loved the trail. Beautiful area to spend part of the day in.

Beautiful trail.

This was a great escape! Fairly moderate trails, quite enjoyable.

Amazing trails to run, hike, and take dogs on! Gorgeous views, right near the White River and an amazing playground. 5/5 stars.

Easy wide trail that was clearly labeled. Was not very busy at all. Would be a good trail to run. We did not do any of the trails in the middle of the loop, but will try those next time.

Many hiking trails offering great views and beauty all around. The canyons are so much fun to climb in for all ages.

Parts under maintenance and not well traveled - which can be a good thing so it feels like a real adventure!

Beautiful trail. Our 9 year old son had a blast on this trail. Several small caves to check out and some beautiful waterfalls. Also very pet friendly

Beautiful hike. Many massive rock cliffs. Feet get wet (thankfully, it was hot!) as you wander thru the creek bed. Refreshing waterfalls! Keep your eyes open for the funky mushroom varieties.

Nice shaded trail! The waterfall was cool! Will definitely return!

The trails are challenging, as there are a lot of staircases and long sections of some of the trails are stream beds, but I LOVE this park! It’s a very fun hike! The campground isn’t huge, so even though it was full, I never felt crowded or as if I couldn’t enjoy the peace of the forests. The scenery is wonderful and well worth the soggy shoes

Second time doing this trail. There were three trees down when i went to be prepared to walk/climb over them if you go within the next week or so. I love the scenery of this hike. Very easy but can be made more difficult by going off trail.

Trail 4 was the most challenging through the ravine with ladder climbing and stream walking. We enjoyed a sit in the river to cool off.

Excellent trail only 2 miles from I 65. Would do it again

Nice area, sections w/c accessible, plenty of parking, overall short trail

Shaded trail great for walking your fur babies. Nice little waterfall with a stream along the trail.

Been here several times always enjoy it, lots of wildlife as well as a variety of plants to discover here. Love hiking by the water.

Nice easy paved 1 mile loop trail through wooded park.

we hiked a combination of trails 7&8. Some of the trail required navigating creek beds with slippery surfaces. Trail 8 would not be recommended for inexperienced or poorly conditioned hikers.

Great trail with some good views! With the exception of climbing over two 4-5 foot rock bluffs and one steep downhill climb the rest of the trail was moderate.

Plenty of shorter trails in the middle of the loop and some peaceful spots to hang out for awhile.

Pretty easy trails. A little wildlife. Light human traffic. Dogs OK. Some bike trails. Other stuff here like a camp ground and a little water park and pavilions for picnicking and parties and whatnot. The grounds were well kept.

I go here often and it is my favorite place in Lafayette. It is absolutely beautiful and so tranquil! Definitely worth a trip of you have the time!

Very pretty spot to walk the pups!
