Very easy hike with beautiful views of the mountains, glaciers, and the Fairmont. I hoped in late November so we stopped at the end because of avalanche warnings, but would have continued to go on to the Plain of Six Glaciers trail if we had the training or the if the conditions were better. lots of people at the lakefront, but it thinned out for us as we walked away from the hotel.

I had pretty low expectations of this hike based on word of mouth reviews however it was pretty beautiful!
The walk from the cave and basin was along a paved walk way, agree with other comments that it can be a little boring however the couple of breaks in the trees give stunning views of the bow river and mountains behind. The canyon was partially frozen over with water running underneath! Beautiful and peaceful.
I couldn’t do the last 1km as it was really icy and had no micro spikes. Would recommend this as a longer and quieter Johnston Canyon.

This should really be rated as easy- if you can do it in jeans it’s not that difficult. Beautiful views of Banff at the top, great hike if you want to squeeze something quick and easy into your day. Wise to bring spikes in winter- there were a couple sections where they would have been appreciated.

What a beauty!

nice hike.

Hiked on 11.1.18
Microspikes and poles up to the tea house. Heard multiple avalanches..Attempted to walk to the lookout point but turned around about 3/4 of the way due to high snow, unsure footing and avalanche risk.
Overall excellent hike had the whole area to ourselves just be prepared.

The view of the lake is spectacular...I was lucky to take some nice photos in a sunny-cloudy day. Make sure to stop after the bridge to view the lake kind of from the top (good for photo shooting). You will feel the spirits of Minnewanka! :)

Easy hike. Most of the trail is paved (and not really interesting...). Canyon is cool but this interesting part of the trail is too short. (a LOT of mosquitoes in summer. be prepared!)

great kids hike, find the hermit cabin for an extra surprise! there's a swing on the way as well!

Nice fall hike. Great condition for late in the year as of Saturday, October 27. Only hiking shoes required to the top.

It was a nice uphill hike with beautiful views.

Great shoulder season hike. Gets steeper as you get close to the lake. Managed to do Harvey Pass as well but it is challenging with the snow. Make sure you are prepared if you go past Bourgeau Lake.

Little bit of effort for some great rewards. Some beautiful views!

Great hike from Lake Louise with tons of amazing views! The trail is icy and snowy at this time of year so make sure to have spikes (and poles help too). Overall this was a great trail that had some climbing but nothing too difficult. Highly recommend!

Did this hike on Oct 20, beautiful views of town & mountains from the top. Ice cleets required.

Nice easy climb if you’re seeking the opportunity to kill a couple of hours .. today the trail was dry and no need for any equipment but assume it would get slippery when it snows .. nice views as you venture up ..

Moderate hike. Beautiful view

Great trail. Definitely need shoe spikes, can rent in town for $9.00.

Excellent hike. One of my favorites

Didn't end up doing the entire trail. We only got to the bridge (Steward Canyon). I'd reckon it about a 2 km in (at most) to the wooden bridge and then back. I went with older parents with bad knees and they were able to do it. Pretty easy up to that point. Nice views of the lake. We ran into about 10 people (one couple hiking with 2 young children and 2 mountain bikers) on the trail on a Friday morning around 8 am.

3 stars just might be me being picky...if I lived in Banff and just needed a quick up/down hike I would do this. Being from a bigger city, though, I like the views of a hike to be without civilization in them... that said, if you want a view of Banff town & surrounding area, this will suit you just fine.

Great hike and amazing views !

This was one of the first trails I did, and it was a wonderful introduction into hiking. Go early in the morning as it gets very busy (there’s a teahouse up there - not Agnes teahouse, although that’s close by) and make the extra 1km trek to go have lunch in front of lefroy and upper Victoria glacier. You’ll see a few avalanches for sure.

It was a beautiful and not super challenging hike. I’d like to go again on a day where it wasn’t too cold and pouring rain, but what can you do! The weather is the only reason I’m giving it a 3/5. I’m sure there’s a beautiful vista we could have looked out over had it not been grey-out from the rain. Also a squirrel tried to drink my beer. Minus one star for the thief squirrel.

Crampons + a good hiking boot are a must! Snowy and icy but the views are worth it.

Completed this hike on the 15th of October. Provides some breathtaking views, and only takes 30-45 minutes to reach the peak. Great reward for little effort! :)
As mentioned, it can be a bit slippery. However, no ice cleats needed, just take care.

Did this hike at sunrise 10/13. We had yaktraks but didn’t need them. Quick little summit great for a morning hike from lowed by breakfast in town.

Did this hike on 10/9/18 lots of ice because of the Early snowfall this past week the hike was easy and the views were spectacular a great in town hike if you just have a half a day and need something fun to do.
