Relatively flat, wide gravel trail. Nice waterfall area at the end. Mostly smaller growth trees in the beginning.

Convenient to Duvall.

the scenery is gorgeous, the air smells like christmas candles as you climb. First 3/4 of the trail are easy slow climb, after that it turns into more intense switchbacks. Very snowy and slippery at the top, so wear appropriate footwear. If you have removable krampons or hiking poles I would suggest those for the top portion as I saw lots of people fall and almost fell myself a number of times. I even saw a lady with a sprained ankle being carried down by her husband. Bring lots of layers so that you can take off as you ascend and then put back on as you descend. This time of year when we got to the top at 2:10 the sun was already set on the lake so get an early start, aim to be at the top for noon. Amazing view, so worth it!

Winter wonderland! Don’t forget your spikes for the last half of the trail.

Left parking lot about 0830, got to mason lake about 10. Put on micro spikes somewhere near the lake and kept them on the rest of the hike until returning back down to that spot. Walked on rocks to cross stream and continue to the peak. I didn’t use poles but they seemed to help many people with the semi-rock scramble near the top. Had lunch at the peak and put on a bunch of layers. Got back to parking lot about 4pm. Remember sunset is 4:30pm now!! It was beautiful when I hiked but I’m sure there is more snow to come.

Winter wonderland! Over a foot of snow everywhere! Make sure you bring micro-spikes and hiking poles. Some spots get very slippery. The most beautiful wonder hike I have done so far. (Oh and wear waterproof shoes)

It was an easy hike... it got cold at the top. Enjoy the hike.

good for kids

The trail was beautiful and the creeks were flowing fast. Lots to see! The lakes were peaceful and surrounded by snow dusted trees. The snow was just a dusting but the trail was very wet up top and some deep mud in places so watch your step! I would say this is an easy-moderate hike. This would be a good hike for families as there are flat spots in-between the switchbacks. The trail was closer to 6 miles. Great late fall hike!

**You will be on the old trail because the new one is under construction but it is well kept and meets right back up with the mapped trail.

Unfortunately there was too much water to cross one of the waterfalls that had developed due to the rain lately. We were one of four groups that doubled back. Seems like it would be beautiful based on the first 30 minutes though!

A nice hike close to the city. Good variations and nice views from the dam.

K and I did this one in the rain. The Falls look great. Per NOAA the Skykomish flow was over 35.2 KCFS. The trail is in good shape, not too much of a crowed.

Gorgeous views, especially on a clear fall day. It was pretty crowded on the trail, but we did go on a Sunday. Get there early if you can, the views are worth it! The lake is clear and worth the hike.

Beautiful views! Totally worth the hike up☺️

Good well kept trail, first 2/3 is easy, well maintained path. Last night is a bit tougher and can get quite sloppy with heavy rains. Keeping to the left Allows for extension along older Logging roads. The last turn to the cause it’s not super obvious. Fun day hike.

The fall colors were beautiful! May have waited too long as far as the weather goes, we were soaking wet and then coated with snow towards the top, made for a very cold day. Can’t wait to go back next Spring or Summer to see the changes.
Followed the advice of precious reviews and wore boots with good traction, very grateful we did.

Beautiful hike! Took about two hours. Great trail, some of the rocks can be a little loose or slippery tho so watch your step. The view at the top is beautiful and totally worth it! If going on a weekend, get there super early. Very popular trail. We got there at 8:30am and had no trouble parking but when we got back to the car later that afternoon, it was hard to get out of the parking lot. Absolutely packed and so was overflow parking.

Amazing views!

Nice fall hike, rain on fallen big maple leaves made the trail slippery in places. This hike was at least a mile longer than the 5.3 listed in the description— I made a wrong turn and did some backtracking, but that couldn’t have been more than a mile round trip and my tracker came out at 7.7 miles.

Ok hike. The view from the lower falls was mostly blocked by trees. We didn’t have time to continue on the trail but the middle viewpoint is only .3 miles farther. There’s also a viewpoint at the top.
Crowded with families.

did this hike last week with a bunch of friends and it was so nice! definitely a moderate hike and it was sort of icy and slippery on the rocks on the way down/up to the lake so please be careful and if you have hiking poles, bring them!

Great hike. Good pace to the hike with first 2 miles slow incline and then increases the last mile or so. Snow lake is beautiful. It was quite windy at the lake yesterday. I did the extra hike and checked out Gem lake. It was about 11.5 miles round trip, did it about 4 hrs 30 min. Quite rocky in a few spots, including traversing rubble fields. This would likely be harder for a dog, but was fine otherwise.

Difficult but worth it in the summer time. We took many tests going up but jogged going down.

Love this hike! And I do highly recommend wearing hiking boots/shoes as the trail was pretty rocky. I wore my nikes and I could still feel the rocks through the soles of my shoes.

Beautiful and easy to get done in under 3 hours. Lots of rocks. Plenty of trees. Much chinchillas? I don’t know what they were. I put my feet in the lake and it was cold. The rocks hurt.

I’m not an expert hiker. This hike was challenging and so worth it. Took us under 4 hours there and back with some breaks. Beautiful hike, will do again. Get there as early as you can and where good hiking boots. The trail has some pretty rocky parts.

Wonderful hike. The trail is very well maintained. Took my 72 year old, fit friend, and 60 yo sister. Both handled the 1200+ feet elevation without a problem at a moderate pace. The view of the lakes is lovely. As seasoned hiker would find this hike easy and would be up in back in a few hours, we took 5 1/2.

Beautiful hike and super busy. We got here at 9am and the parking lot was full. It is so worth it the make it down to the lake. Good hiking shoes are a must due to loose rocks on the trail.

Fun hike, warmer to the lookout and cooler on the descent down to the lake, took about 1.5hrs to the lookout and 20m to the lake. Overall with lunch and photos 1030a-230p. Very rocky soft soled shoes were rough on the feet!
