beautiful hike, but always very crowded. went with a horticulturist and learned a lot about the various medicinal native plants.

Didn’t actually do left hand as it was closed due to mud. So did sage instead, which was also incredibly muddy.

Beautiful winter trail hike if you’re looking for a nice stroll in the woods. Curious to see what it’s like in the warmer months. Lots of aspens, will definitely be back to the area in the fall next year!

Great trail without a lot of loose rock and fairly easy footing. Steady inclines and great views made the hike really enjoyable. Parking can be a bit tough but the hike is well worth it!

Walking path. Sometimes stop when driving back to Boulder. You can see fish jump out of the lake and sometimes birds are prevalent. Calm and peaceful. The loop goes by fast even at a leisurely pace.

Fun to cruise through on a mountain bike. Perfectly smooth trail most of the time.

Good for a stroll. Calm and beautiful lakes. WAY too many dogs though for a non dog person. The west lake can be used by dogs off-leash.

I would like to clarify that this route displayed here is NOT the Rainbow Lake Trail. It is actually the Rainbow Lake Trail, then the Masontown Tail, then cuts off the Masontown trail to Bill's Ranch Trail, then meets back up with the Rainbow Lakes Trail. The actual Rainbow Lakes trail is just an out and back to the lake. Don't get lost people, this is NOT Rainbow Lake Trail ONLY!!!!! There is no loop as part of the trail. It is ONLY OUT AND BACK! You will see trail signs that say this along the way and will not match what AllTrails is saying. This incorrect info as a guide makes me rather irritated as many people get lost and stranded on Mount Royal for not using accurate information about their hikes. Trust me, I live at THE TRAIL HEADS! ALSO: I have suggest an edit of this trail which has not yet been approved. This comment may become irrelevant after edit approval.

Love this hike. Breathtaking views valley

Hiked with trail with my husband and two daughters (ages 12 and 9). Saw 4 moose right when we started!!! Trail was easy to hike and the lake is really pretty.

Nice trail that was quick and easy! Most of the aspens has already lost their leaves though.

I believe I left a green nalgene water bottle covered in stickers on this trail. If anyone finds it could you please let me know?

Very easy hike. We saw a moose!

very nice trail just very crowded and parking costs 3.00 every two hours or so, starts all uphill then kinda eases towards the end

Nice trail for families and older adults. Great colors.

Nice view of the mountains, might be better walk in spring with wild flowers. Saw a bunch of deer and a bison. But it's a nice quiet walk.

Good spot, some good shade for hot day. Minimal people despite proximity to boulder.

Only had a couple of hours to kill before leaving for airport so this was the closest thing. Not too bad and easy walk. Lots of mule deer around and good view of the mountains.

I used to walk and run this all the time when I lived in the area. It's a nice flat, dirt trail perfect for a run or relaxing walk. Popular for families and people of all ages. At the west lake dogs are allowed off leash and you can often watch them playing in the water.

I walk or bike here often as it's a comfortable, flat trail to walk, dogs are allowed and it makes for a gentle walk given the more strenuous hikes I often take. The views are great and it also connects to the Highway 36 scenic overlook where there is a FREE bike pump to add air to your bike tires.

A nice little hike that serves up stunning views of the front range and Boulder. would highly recommend for people who have guests from our of town who want the stunning Vista shots.

This is NOT A lightly trafficked trail. There were throngs of people. I suppose it’s nice if you’re a local, but I would not drive out of my way to come here again. If I hadn’t driven two and a half hours already, I’d have left when we had to drive away from the park and find side-street parking in a neighborhood.

The trail is just a gravel path surrounding the lake. That si ok. Take every boardwalk you come across as you will get to view lots of wildlife. My highlights included a bald eagle, 2 falcons, and 2 deer that were about 10 yards off the board walk. Very surprised at how much life was in the area!

Quick and easy! Great when the aspens are changing!

Surprisingly beautiful. I didn't have my hopes very high when I saw how flat this trail was, but it was a nice little loop that offered beautiful views.

It is a flat grassland without much to look at.

Moose in the lake this afternoon. Trail is rocky and steep in places, especially right before you get to the lake. Our 77 year old patriarch made. Hike now for the best fall colors.

Beautiful, easy trail... my only complaint is the gravel path was super bumpy ... aka not stroller friendly! Other than that, gorgeous views and a great walk

Very easy, kid and tourist friendly hike with a picturesque lake and almost no vertical. Honestly, for me, this is more of a 3-4 star trail for me simply because I prefer hiking with scenic views- however it’s absolutely beautiful right now with the fall colors! I was doing a super fast walk/trail run so I didn’t snap any photos but it’s WORTH IT!
