HikingGreat!

Went last Sunday in Feb (this morning) and stopped at the first parking lot at 8:15am to run to the bathroom, and when we arrived at the Bear Gulch parking area we literally snagged the last spot at 8:30! If you don’t want to walk an extra mile + to get to the trailhead I’d show up earlier than you think you need to. Trail was absolutely gorgeous! Saw several condors, very warm even in Feb. Rocks are really something special. I wouldn’t say this trail is hard as rated here. We were sore from a longer hike yesterday and still easily did this in just under 3 hours. If you go counter clockwise you get most of the climb out of the way right at the beginning!

Walking

Very nice hike with great look out spots. If you don’t get there early enough, you’ll have to park in the overflow parking lot which is 3 miles from the start of the trail. So you add an extra 6 miles to your hike. Bring lots of water and snacks!

Nice trail. Not to difficult with kids and a dog. It’s a little crowded on the weekends.

Surprisingly fun trail that mostly follows a steep creek edge, then breaks into an easy wide trail leading to fantastic views of the bay. Great for fearless, friendly dogs (like mine!) not great for reactive dogs because at times the narrow trail forces you to pass in close proximity to others. There only unpleasant part was when I had to pass within inches of a lunging, barking dog who was reacting to my dog, hoping that he wouldn’t push me over the steep-enough-to-break-something edge of the trail.

By far one of my top favorites! It was my very first time at Pinnacles National Park and I am so excited to return to explore more! Arrived 6ish am at Bear Gulch Day use parking area as we wanted to secure our parking space... we were one of the first ones there! (There are probably a couple dozen spaces available at Bear Gulch Nature Center/Day use area... ) Bathroom facilities are available At the trailhead. Very clean with soap and water available. As per multiple reviewer's recommendations, proceeded counter clockwise from Condor Gulch Trailhead. The trails were well marked and fairly easy to follow. Views were stunning! Hiked with a large group, so took us almost 6 hours to complete, including a n extension to the Bear Gulch reservoir via Rim trail ... We had numerous snack breaks, and countless photo stops... basically went at a pace so slow that we didn't even break a sweat. But the views were worth savoring! the steep and narrow was my favorite part! Sooo fun and exhilarating with the breathtaking views!! Felt very safe with the handrails for support if needed. We had people in our group with fear of heights... although they were initially intimidated by the "steep and narrow," they managed to conquer their fears and achieved! the reservoir is worth the extra mile to see. We were able to walk through the Bear Gulch Cave Trail (did not need headlamps). This loop trail brought us back to our parking area, which was full when we finished after NOON. There was a long line of cars at the park's East Entrance as we were leaving at 130pm.

Had to park in overflow parking, which adds 6 additional miles to the hike (3 miles each way because the shuttles aren’t operating). So had to take a shortcut on the way back to the parking lot. Parts of the hike are pretty dangerous, but it’s got good views. Make sure you bring enough water, snacks, and sunscreen.

HikingGreat!

We did this yesterday with our 3 and 7 years old. We did it in 11 hours total time from home (we live in Clayton). It was hard for us. Probably not going to try it again anytime soon. We did it clockwise like recommended. The entire loop from our home to the summit and back was about 16 miles. Bring lots of water and snacks. There are water fountain and restroom on the summit. After prospectors gap to the summit was strenuous for us. Lots of rapid ascent and loose gravel. The way down after junipers campground is beautiful with city views but slippery with gravels. My 7 yo did the entire route by himself. My 3 yo did 90% of the ascent and had to carried for the decent. I would recommend this for kids that are 7 and older. Great hike with breathtaking views.

Nice trail, lots of different scenery/trail types (some paved, some dirt, some sand). Well maintained. Free 3-hr parking near golf course.
