absolutely beautiful to hike for sunrise. no shade so earlier morning hikes are best in warm months. and youll beat the giant crowds.

Attempted to hike this midday during the heat, but due to the temperature and lack of shade on the trail we ended up detouring to Ramona Overlook and then back to the parking lot. Make sure to bring lots of water and sunscreen/hat - for the two of us we had about 5L of water and consumed most of it on our 4+ miles. Once you leave the small area of trees by the parking lot there is essentially no shaded areas on this trail. The views are beautiful! Would definitely do this trail again either earlier in the day or on a cooler day. There are non-flush toilets in the parking lot.

So hot!!!!

Amazing trail. Well mark.

Beautiful trail, recommend following the guidance here up Azalea to the right then down the paved road on the way back (not fun for the feet though).

Note: the entrance to Conejos is very difficult to spot, the trail sign is hidden if you’re travelling from Azalea. Also, bring lots of water and sunscreen. Park patches, cool gifts, and wildlife display at Cuyamaca Rancho visitor’s center before you get to the campground- worth a stop Sat and Sun 1000 to 1600. Recommended soundtrack for the drive: Tin Hat Trio: The Rodeo Eroded.

went to the peak during sunset. also the full moon was rising opposite the sun. it was wonderful. went at the end of june. temperature was perfect.

one of my favorites, a nice cardio climb.

Did a full moonlight hike up this trail! Was beautiful!! Lots of jagged rocks to step over at the top. But all in all a great hike!!

I loved this trail. It was a good, solid work out, with the reward of amazing views at the very top. I highly recommend it.

Good hike, not too difficult. A little cloudy when i went but the views i saw were still gorgeous.

Watch out for the fire ants, i was stung while minding my own business sitting on a rock at the top. The rock was clear of ants when i first sat down, those buggers came around after a good few minutes of sitting there

Great hike with beautiful views! Not super long but there are a few inclines so you still feel like you're getting a decent workout in.

Breath taking trail. The trail has a very sad slow rate of forest regeneration, which prompted a reforestation project to replant using donations. It breaks my heart when I saw such magnificent pines burnt to the core. Quick history: The fire took place in 2003, when a lost hunter lit a signal fire hoping to be found. That signal burned out of control and became the biggest wildfire in California's history, burning more than 300,000 acres, killed 15 people and burned 2400 homes.

Great trail I love it

Awesome trail. Beautiful views. I was surprised how many people were out on this trail so early in the morning. And lots of dogs.

DO NOT follow the “getting there” directions (do not turn left down chihuahua or go down any dirt road), just keep following the original road all the way down to the fire station, and park at the information center. Trail is on THE SAME SIDE OF THE ROAD as the fire station on the right hand side when facing the building, NOT the side of the road with the info center and PCT sign. Also keep in mind this route approaches the rock formation from behind, so be on the look out for the trail split once you hit 3.2 miles! Be sure to bring plenty of water, direct sun is a killler for 2/3 of the way there/back.

Eagle rock itself was super cool!! There isn't much shade cover on this trail, so next time I'd try not to go on a really hot and sunny day. The trail was pretty empty when we went.

The eagle stone itself is pretty awesome. The hike is rated moderate but it was pretty easy in 85 degree weather. FYI, there's absolutely no shade starting from the half way point to eagle stone so bring lots of water.

Very well-maintained trail, hard to get lost. The first 2/3rd you'll have some shade. The last third is straight exposure through grassland. The approach is behind the rock formation so it doesn't look like anything special. Got warned by a rattlesnake chillen by the rocks, so be cautious. Really easy hike.

I really enjoyed this hike. I went early to beat the crowd and there was only a couple people at the top with me.

There is a good amount of parking, but I would make sure to get there early because it appeared to fill up really fast.

When you start the hike you will be on a groomed dirt road/ish for about the first mile. After that you will be at the base of the climb and be taking the switchbacks all the way to the top.

Once you get the switchbacks the hike feels a lot like a Cowles Mountain. I felt challenged by the hike, and really enjoyed the surrounding views. Make sure you bring lots of water on warmer days, there is not shade!

Love Iron Mountain!!! Done it twice; hands down one of the best hikes in SOCAL. Moderately traveled, good for dogs (as long as they can handle the hot sun and long hike). Bathrooms are available at the start of the hike but BEWARE they are GROSS!!!

Moderate hike with great views at the top

Really loved this trail. Beautiful scenery, big views.

I enjoy this hike as I do this one often. I enjoy the solitude of an early morning (

Great forest hike. Nice weather with a cool breeze! Park at the campground and pay the $10 parking fee. The azalea glen trail is south of the parking lot. Flat and gradual incline at the beginning. Steep as you reach the peak.
