Used to run this trail several times a week. lt’s not the most beautiful trail in the Bay Area but the views are nice in the late afternoon. The worst part is that you’re running by the sewage treatment plant on the southern end and on certain days, it’s borderline unbearable. This can be avoided by running toward the north and eastern sides and avoiding the southern end near the treatment plant. Lots of bikers can be annoying if you run along the western edge during busy periods

Without fail, one of the best sunset walks near Menlo Park. A beautiful place to stroll around for an hour and not see many people.

Mostly shaded, some sunny spots, decent elevation. Great afternoon hike that loops through downtown Los Gatos and the St. Joseph Open Space Preserved close to Lexington Reservoir.

Nice 8.2 mile hike. Some parts are steep, but nothing over the top

Rated as moderate but it’s actually a pretty good challenge

We decided to continue hiking on the first trail to the left, about half way on this trail and hiked all the way out to where it comes back out on the lake. It’s only a few miles but the various switchbacks are pretty killer if you go that way and it is not a loop trail. This was a little while before I got the app so I was not ready for it. Very pretty though!

Beautiful trail (would be amazing in winter and spring when water was running in the creek), but hikers need to be prepared for the amount of climbing or descending (depending on which way you travel). The 1000 feet of elevation change is accomplished over MANY stairs created with wood, dirt, and rock. While I was able to handle the descent, the uneven wood and boulders were tough on the knees and ankles.

We like to hike here with the kids every New Years Day. One year we hiked through a cold rain and didn’t have the right gear but it was pretty nonetheless. The next year was clear and gorgeous. It’s a great walk in any weather.

Started in the parking lot - went to the right// uphill switch backs that opened up at the top to lots of wide trails towards the dam it switched back to the switchback- mostly shade. Was fun to do with Kona the trailblazer.

Like the PG &E trail.

Nice shaded paths, pretty much dry this time of year.

Beware Canadian Geese

My local trail! I have been walking this trail since I was 4 (now 25) and it never gets old. It can be hard to find parking during peak hours (weekday evenings and weekends) but always worth it. The woodsy environment is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the Bay Area. The uphills/downhills are manageable for any level. I frequently come here for walks with my mom. Runners love this trail (I personally don't run but my mom and cousin do). This is a very popular trail, so if you have headphones in please be courteous of runners or those moving faster than you!

beautiful hike

A decent amount of hills, no shade, go early in morning before it gets too hot.

As an amateur hiker, I found this moderately challenging but satisfying. Lots of incline but with a wonderful view. It was a beautiful scenic route and heavily shaded. Terrain was a bit loose in some areas so the correct shoes for this hike is essential. Parking was a bit confusing and I think we began at the wrong end as we started decline end first. I would not bring my children here however there was a family with small children. Overall, one of my favorites so far, definitely one to do again (in the the spring, when there’s more water)

We went there with our dog. It was pretty difficult for us... first part of the trail without shade, so it was very hot, also was very noisy since you walk near the road. The second part was more shady (we also saw a snack). Next to the creek it’s really nice and there are some places where you can get closer and get inside the creek. Overall it was nice.

This is classified as a moderate hike but for the first time hiker it may be a challenge. There are many sets of steep wooden stairs. Also rock “stairs” to navigate. Dogs on leash are allowed to hike here. I would not recommend taking a dog that is not used to steep rocky hikes. My girl is a good hiker and can handle inclines but this was too difficult for her. We had to take several breaks and she only made it about halfway. Be careful going down as some of the places have gravel that can cause you to slip. Finally I would suggest going in the winter or spring. I went in the summer and though the lake was pretty the waterfalls were almost non existent.

Great hike mostly an incline up stairs and rocks. Great picnic area about 1.4 miles up. Lovely mystic look with a forest feel.

Beautiful trail to watch the sunset.

Beautiful easy “hike”. Really a walk. Gorgeous secluded beaches. Entertaining sea lion colony. Well worth it.

Lots of climbing but pretty scenery throughout! I didn’t feel there was a big ‘pay-off’ moment at the top with a nice view so that’s why I’d rate this one a 4!

Running it counter clockwise makes all the uphill climbs in the shade!

I go on this hike every time I'm in Santa Cruz. The views are amazing and the hike is easy. Only bummer is that it can sometimes be pretty windy.

Well I’m a newbie to hiking-this was not easy for me, but I’ve done it three times and am getting faster-lots if uphill but a great hike
