Excellent day hike! Did this with my father who is in his 60’s and my son who is 13. Make sure to check the weather before going and pack a jacket, it can be cooler in certain areas even in July when we went. Great views!

The perfect acclimation hike. The hike itself is at high elevation, but generally flat the whole way so you can become comfortable moving around at high elevation. We loved all he different historic sites from the boom town up there. You could step off the trail and wander through old wooden house frames and find metal cans, rings from barrels, bricks, etc. We also did the little side loop towards the end around mile 5. The way out was nice, but the way back was essentially non-existent. You could either walk out to the end of the rail line there and then turn back, or just be ready for a bit of bushwhacking.

Great hike with tremendous views at the top. Difficult for the first half mile and the last half mile but pretty easy in between.

What an amazing hike! This was very challenging yet very rewarding once you finally get to the lake.
There is a lower parking lot which is where most folks park. Getting up to the trail head is not that daunting and I could have made it in my Forester(or any vehicle with 8 inches or more of clearance). Compared to the drive up to Grays and Torreys, the road up to there is a cake walk.
The overall trip is 12 miles as listed here but there is a sign about a mile in that says the lake is 4 miles away. The last 2 miles of this hike is where the incline sets in(and you ascend over 1k ft) while the first 4 miles are fairly flat as you go through the valley.
Overall, this hike is manageable and the lake itself is beautiful. It is covered most of the way with a few river crossings that you do not need to remove your shoes for. It would be amazing to camp at one of the spots right next to the lake and have the views looking over the valley be the first thing you see in the morning

I love the Rainbow Trail; it doesn't get any better for me! Swift Trail up to the Lakes is steep and rocky but the beauty at the end is worth every step!

Stunning and not too hard at all. But rocky in parts

Well marked and great views along the way

the trail was pretty easy the whole way. beautiful view from the top of the tunnel. went around 12 and saw maybe 10 people the whole time. definitely recommend giving this hike a go

We loved this hike. It wasn’t too bad at all. The road getting up to here after Judd Falls parking lot is rough and you should have AWD/4WD and some clearance. The incline up isn’t too bad. The last mile or so is steeper but not too bad. When you get to the lake make sure you hike up the rock in the center of the lake for some amazing views! One of the best hikes I have ever taken!

Picked a beautiful day to hike up to the Crags! It is an easy trail as long as you stop to catch some air & enjoy the views of the amazing rock formations. The view at the end is well worth it & plus meeting new folks from other places! You will not be disappointed!!

Beautiful. Well kept trail.

Beautiful trail! Beginning is a semi steep climb that gets your heart pumping esp if not used to the altitude. From there a nice rolling trail. Some shaded then a section that opens up to a meadow. Last half mile is another climb to a fantastic 360 view! Road to the trailhead is narrow and rough but my small SUV handled it.

There are two trails that go to the lakes, both are well shaded and have wildflowers along the way (most are starting to fade though). The lakes at the top were beautiful and offered some great photo ops. There were few people on the trail, which made the trip even better.

Beautiful view at the end. Worth the hike. However, my recording said we walked 6.8 miles on this trail.

Gorgeous views...breathtaking! My family came down on the wrong trail from the top and was tricky to find our way back to the trail. Beginning and end got our heart rates up but it was not too bad for our Kansas crew. We really enjoyed this hike!

Easy trail, great views, somewhat crowded. Stop at the tunnel and eat lunch. maybe fish Hangerman Lake. More noise than expected from the pass road.

I hiked this yesterday; started at noon and finished a few minutes after 2. It was my second time on this trail. The weather was perfect and it was moderately challenging but had places of reprieve. The meadow just past the creek is so gorgeous and is filled with lush green grass, wildflowers, and tall sturdy trees along the perimeter. Once you make it to the split, follow the sign for Raspberry Mountain. It gets tough here. Very steep climb, but it’s shaded, so that helps. When you get to the large boulders, follow the trail through them and them hug the outside of them as you round out beside them. The trail seems to disappear a bit, but just stay near the rocks and after about 100 yards, you will see the rocks that you climb up to the top. The view is insane and totally worth the climb. The only drawback for me was the enormous swarm of gnats that cut my viewing pleasure short.

Arrived at the parking area on a Saturday at 0630 and only one other car was there. Hiked the trail clockwise and it took right at 5 hrs and clocked in right at 11 miles. Plenty of creek crossings but water was low so no need to take boots off. I do wish I had brought long pants, you will be hiking through a lot of shrubs. Some of the trails were poorly marked and wasn’t sure what direction. Just pulled out my AllTrails app and made sure I was headed in the right direction. Unfortunately only animals I saw were turkey, woodpeckers and chipmunks. Beautiful hike though!!

Great hike with my dog. Was frustrated by some off-leash dog owners. The parent rock easily erodes into pebbles, so the trail is covered with beautiful, large-crystal gravel. That makes most of the trail great for hiking, but also makes the descent from the vista a bit tricky. It also means that there are a ton of animal paths and waterways that (when dry) look like official trails. The trail is totally unmarked (no cairns, blazes, or signage after the first 0.4 mile or so). It’s pretty easy to follow until the climb towards the end. It wasn’t too difficult to find my way, but I was definitely off-trail accidentally a good bit. Pay attention going up so you have familiar landmarks to look for going down!

One of the best trails in the area, beautiful

Great one to bring out-of-towners on. Has good shade for most of it to help you on a hot day with reasonable elevation gains. And the view at the top is fantastic.

Amazing trail! Overall moderate, not highly trafficked, and beautiful views everywhere! Highly suggest!

Amazing 360 views from the top. Beautiful trail with a steep incline, levels out then another incline.

Fantastic trail with beautiful rock formations and amazing views at the top. Vault toilets at the trailhead (very clean when we were there). It ended up being a litle over 5 miles. Watch out for afternoon storms in the summer. Overly friendly chipmunks at the top looking for hiker goodies.

Our family loved this trail! We have 4 children who were aged 5-15 at the time and we made it easily to the top. Amazing views, worth the hike!

Worth every step!

I’m not an expert but this was a challenging and varied hike. As another post mention, it’s a nice climb thru forest, then a nice walk thru a valley, then a climb to the top. Perfect. As you get close to the top, it appears as if someone created the beautiful and interesting rock formations there. Really cool. But then you do reach the top and it’s wow! 360 views and places to sit and enjoy. And your high up. Must do.

great trail, inclines a bit rough but overall not too bad. view is awesome at the top, not too much rock scrambling
