It was a decent hike. It was only 1.8 miles instead of 2.8. Not sure where the extra mile went! :P

Definitely steep but worth it! Be prepared for stone stairs at the top. I’m more out of shape so it took me a few rests any my trekking poles. Well maintained and a great Saturday activity.

Amazing views! Difficult trail is a lot of fun and has great scenery, easy trail has nice flat surfaces and plenty of stairs.

This is a must see view from the top. The main trail is easy, The west side trail is Hard and steep do not bring small children on this trail. Great hike!

One of my favorite hikes in the Willamette Valley. Been up here 4 times in 3 years. Always took the longer route from the northern trailhead but this time parking lot was full today so went to the southern trailhead. Surprised to find much larger parking lot with outhouses and better signage. Probably take this trailhead from now on as it seems to be the main trailhead. There are 2 different routes, one only 0.7 miles but very steep and one that is less steep and meets up with the northern route before ascending.

Today I took the steeper route and it was a blast for me. There was quite a lot of scrambling on rocks and boulders near the top. Definitely not kid or pet friendly. And I doubt I could go down it as I’m more of a hiker and not a climber or scrambler. Took the longer but less steep route back down and that one was very easy.

The views at the top were pretty good though hampered by some wildfire smoke, so could not see the Pacific but was able to see Fernridge reservoir and Eugene and Mount Pisgah.

People who live in Eugene are very lucky to have such a wonderful spot with 360 degree views right on the outskirts of town. I wish Salem could develop trails like this!

Beautiful hike on a perfect day. Hubs thought we were going for a short hike but we ended up going all the way to Spencer Butte Summit

Excellent hike
Starts ver easy in the sunshine!
Gradually get harder before reaching the top.
Fantastic 360 panoramic views.

Love it and the view is amazing! I made the mistake of going without having eaten (hypoglycemic) and got lightheaded and a bit sick with the elevation increase. It's not an easy trail but it is not at all impossible. Beautiful!

I was here on a Saturday, plenty of parking at 9a but lot was filling up when I left. Trail was well kept. I took the path to the top and at the peak it wasn't immediately obvious where the trail continued so I just went back the same way. But really cool view.

Family friendly, lots of nice doggos, lots of people.

Great trail for being right in town

Loved this one! Great workout and beautiful trail

The trail is also called "Old Growth Ridge Trail", it is what the sign says. The first portion is called "Armantrout Loop" to commemorate the local biologist (there is a memorial) who was instrumental in recovery of endangered species. The trail is well-labeled with many benches built by Boy Scouts of America on the way. Three stars because: 1) at the time of hiking the place was intermittently overgrown, esp. in the beginning; 2) no good viewpoints, even the summit is a tree with a trail around, and broken bench. If you happen to camp at Whittaker, of course it is worth hiking but not as an independent goal.

It’s a great easy hike. Takes about an hour to get to the trailhead from Cottage Grove and about about 30 minutes to get to the waterfall and back. Combined with some other trails in the area and it’s a decent day.

Stunning view and worth the hike!

Short, but beautiful hike. The falls are gorgeous. While the hike is short, the falls are pretty enough to spend a while taking in the view. Bring a book and a picnic, and hang out for a while. Dip your toes in the cool water.

Pretty nice

Nice short hike to beautiful falls. Would be a lovely place for a picnic with young kids. Easy to get to,

PLEASE KEEP YOUR DOG ON A LEASH! Sign at trail head clearly states to keep dogs on a leash and every dog I saw was off leash! My dog doesn’t like others (she’s a rescue and had a hard life before me) and I had a few dogs come up to her without an owner in sight!! It’s bad trail manners and could get you’re beloved friend and possibly yourself hurt. Left irritated. To report a dogs off leash call: 541 687-4060

Beautiful crisp hike this morning. No bugs due to cool air. Peaceful!

We like Baldy as a quickie hike when time is at a minimum.

Good morning hike. Went on a Saturday about 7:30. Just a few people in either direction. Beautiful walk thru the trees. Great views in every direction. First time up the hill. Won’t be the last.

Great views of the valley! First time on this trail. Only about a mile to the top using the moderate trail. Came down the steeper, shorter side. I wouldn’t recommend the steeper side if you don’t have good balance and joints :)

There are several driving routes to find the trailhead to the falls and our first attempt was unsuccessful.

Second attempt was grandly rewarded by an easy, beautiful hike to the uplifting Spirit Falls.

I love this trail. Nice workout. We went this weekend and didn't see too many birds. We also went bird watching on a "water trail" with a river guide with a local company Riparian Tours. OMG! We saw eagles and a bunch of osprey hunting right there near the boat. I love Eugene.

Beautiful views from the top! Trail on Memorial Day was very crowded,, so probably not the best hike to do on weekends if you are looking for some peace and quiet.

We hiked the shorter more steep trail the first time I came here, it was a nice little challenge and even though it was raining and misty it was beautiful at the top. The second time here we took the moderate more gradual trail, it was a sunny day and we could see several mountains in the distance! Favorite hike in Eugene/Springfield area.

Hiked up the shorter steeper trail on the left side of the trailhead for a steep challenging but awesome hike for a well worth it view!! The view was killer and awesome! There is a small scramble up a hillside that was super fun but I only recommend it for those who feel fit to do it cause it’s pretty steep! We proceeded to hike down the other trail to loop around which was a much easier trail. So if you prefer a much easier trail to go up and down use the trail to the right of the trailhead!! All in all 5 out of 5 hike that was well maintained and had lots of room for a very populated hike!

Very short hike with 2 ways to the top. Left side is more steep and direct. If you take the right pathway it is less of an incline. It is shorter and a 20 minute hike total. At the top is 1 good view but this hike should be a pit stop not a day hike.
