do the whole ride from Paeroa to Waihi and back. Track mostly follows an old gold mining rail line so is pretty flat. Very scenic with a couple of bridges across the river and a long tunnel to ride through.

Amazing landscape!

Do it every day if you can

Used this track to get to the summit. Was pretty hard graft for my first ever pack climb but I loved it. The hut at the top was beautiful. Plenty of mud.

Very cool trail! A lot of stairs (mostly natural). Great views. Definitely worth to go there!!

This tramp was amazing. Lots of stairs and some sections are quite steep. Coming down past Henry Peak towards the visitors centre was very rough. Lots of tree roots, mud, and large step ups/downs. Poles are highly recommend if you are shorter. Park at the Kaiauai car park, take that to Kokowai Track, that connects with Holly Hut track past the section that is closed due to a slip. There is a side trip about 40 min from Holly Hut to Bells Falls- so worth it! We stayed in Holly Hut the first night and walked the second half the next day. 5.5 hours each both days, including the side trip to Bells Falls. It took us about 3.5 hours to get from the Kaiauai car park to Holly Hut. If you park at the visitors centre it supposedly adds an extra 90 min at the start and end.

Nice view

Fairly busy but great views. Must do as a visitor.

The full track is currently closed to prevent the spread of kauri dieback (7 July 2018).
Can be muddy when wet.

my home town pick

Beautiful walk which is easy enough for kids to do

Great for a hike up and down the mount or round if you don’t fancy climbing! Plenty of routes to choose but always busy.

Beautiful hike with stunning views! We are relatively experienced hikers and completed the track in exactly 1.5 hours, as is what the sign indicating the start of the track says. I reckon the distance is more towards 6km than the 8.2km in the description.

Beautiful hike! Just as said in previous reviews, hikers are rewarded with amazing views all around. The hike was 6km in total, 6.25km if you do the loop as well. We are relatively experience hikers and completed the track in 1.5 hours although the sign said 2 hours.

one of the best hikes in the Northland! A really good workout for an overall short distance. some steep inclines with steps but the views are awesome and you can see the bay side and the ocean side as you hike.

the beautiful hills and the colors of the water in the bay are amazing! trail is well-marked and maintained. I highly suggest this hike.

Afterwards, stop at WAINUI Bay and have a snack on the beach. sand beach, beautiful water and just a few people.

If you shoot down to church bay from matiatia then cone back and loop the headland then back to matiatia its a pretty decent 12k with million dollar views. May not seem like a lot of elevation but very little flat. Lovely

There’s a scary ass 500m mine you have to walk through! But it’s a beautiful hike, made me think of Alice in Wonderland.

Great walk if you include a loop back on the other side of the Gorge. Why go back the same way. The loop trail is marked. Nice and cool in the tunnel.

My favourite coastal track in Auckland.

This is one of the great walks of NZ North Island. The hike starts at the very back of the Kauaeranga Valley end dirt road in the Coromandel Forest. It is approximately 9.2 to 10.5 miles round trip depending on whether you take the Billy Goat loop or direct in-out via the Web Creek Trail. Since we wanted the most direct route we took Web Creek which started as a wide dirt road and slowly climbed past the main river and up pass several washed out bridges.

Once past the first major junction the track starts to climb steadily with many stairs over the next 2 miles. Be amazed by the cobble path that shows the way once used by pack animals and their drivers who worked the dams and Kauri logging years before.

When the trail flattens out it joins the Pinnacles Track and it is now a generally open ridge hike. Here there are views of the mountains and you can see the various lava plugs remaining.

At the last mile past the Pinnacles Hut, we could see the prominant feature of the Pinnacles. It looms large and steep. The path becomes stairs and ladders, and soon its a scramble over the rock face with “via feratta” like metal handholds to the top.

At the top, its an amazing 360 view of the Coromandel. We contoured past the first few pinnacles to the last one and there we perched for a relaxing view that was just right and hard to beat.

Overall, it is truly one of the great walks!
