I'm 13 and just did this hike for the third time. There is snow on the way up to the saddle, but no snow on the scramble. We started at 5:30 and made the top by 7:30, we got down at 9:50. The only gear we had was hiking poles, so it is possible without ice gear. The view from the top is amazing, but the hike is not. The hike is very steep but worth it.

Loved the trail. Its pretty crowded though.

There are a lot of trails in this area and it wasn't well marked. It was a busy trail, though, so we just watched to see where everyone was going. It can get a little crowded up there, so be patient if you want to try out a particular piece of "furniture". The view is spectacular.

I love how the terrain on this trail varies...from evergreen forest along the roaring creek, to dry and rocky, to snow at the top! I was alone hiking, so definitely didn't attempt the snow without spikes. The distance measurement definitely doesn't take into account the walk from the gate to the trailhead since the picnic grounds are still closed. This trail is very manageable for most ability levels. There are lots of places to stop and take a break. The views are amazing.

Nice short hike and conveniently accessible from University

Holy pain in the butt! Doing this hike is no easy task. The trail gets confusing once you start the scramble to the top, so when all else fails, just keep climbing!

Hiked this trail yesterday. Absolutely stunning weather! Trail is dry with maybe four spots that still had ice. I’m sure it’s melted off by now. Beautiful overlook all the way out to The Great Salt Lake. Switchbacks make the elevation easy to handle. Highly recommend.

Love this hike! The snow has melted enough it’s in great condition.

Great hike! Still snowy I recommend wearing water proof, great traction shoes. still super fun in the snow.

Best view and love the squirrels there!

It’s a fun hike and the view at the top is definitely worth the climb up. I would definitely bring water and a few snacks. The ice was almost all melted so regular hiking boots were fine.

We visited Donut Falls yesterday. Beautiful hike. Beautiful day! We are from California so I never anticipated snow on the trail considering the beautiful weather. It was compact & easy to navigate mostly, in tennis shoes. As the day wore on the snow became slushy. Few icy spots & a few muddy areas. Very well traveled in & out. We made it to the waterfall & my husband to the donut hole. The mountain was covered in snow & quite step so we stayed at the bottom and enjoy the view of the waterfall & the stream. Would definitely visit again.

This hike is NOT 3 miles. About 6 to the very top. Beautiful but pretty challenging hike. Spikes are a must right now

Moderate Hike with awesome view!!!

Pretty slippery at some parts. No shade. Nice sunset view of the city

Gorgeous hike!

Very slushy at the top - spikes recommended. Also, round trip is about 6.5 miles, not 5.8.

I love this trail in spring, as it’s clear earlier than most. The east side is in full sun most of the way, so be prepared. Just before the summit (at the steepest part) it’s still snowy/slushy/slippery and spikes helped a ton, especially on the way down. FYI, I always clock this closer to 6.5 RT (from the gate at the bottom of the Church Fork campground.).

This is such an amazing hike. You start off with a steep hike upwards(not too strenuous) and then you get up to the shoreline trail, which wraps around the mountain, and gives an amazing view of SLC.

II am pretty athletic and found this trail to be exciting and beautiful but also steep and grueling. I was exhausted by the time we reached the summit. I would rate this trail as difficult not moderate.. I’m from Ohio so maybe I’m not used to such steep climbs or the altitude - so if your not a local it may be a difficult trail.

Lovely trail, so close to home but when you get up there, you feel so far away. Perfect for dog walking. The upper route also has a lot less mountain bike traffic.

No snow, no mud. The ridge can get windy.

I'm looking to do this hike tomorrow and I am wondering what the trail is like. I've done it in the Spring before, but the weather has been so unpredictable lately.

Scenic hike. Our trip was cut short by a moose in the middle of the path. There are still some patches of snow that you’ll have to go over, but nothing deep.

Great trail!

Great morning hike. Pretty heavy foot traffic until you pass The Living Room. After that the trail narrows and gets muddy. The view at the top is well worth checking out.

Challenging hike. Beautiful view at the top worth the work.

Short but semi steep trail. Very popular. Great spot to watch sunset over SL valley. Trail was dry. Dog friendly trail, with many friendly dogs. Street parking at trail head with 3 hour limit. Should be plenty of time for this trail.

Didn’t take the prior reviews seriously about the necessity of ice spikes, but stopped in REI for some YakTrax just to be safe. Glad I did. You won’t reach the summit without some extra traction. Did not bring trekking poles or running gloves, but would recommend both. If you can handle the ice/slush, the views are amazing.
