Great hike! Elevation gain on my gps said 1,846. A bit more than what AllTrails had. My 11 yo loved this hike and we all had fun! Very heavily trafficked. Recommend and early arrival to get a parking spot.

Hiked up with my parents who are inexperienced hikers. One used trecking poles. This was my second time doing this hike and I really enjoy the views at the top.

Beautiful trail. The lake and trail that loops it are worth the climb. Be sure to check out Lonesome Lake Hut! There are bathrooms there and places to change if you want to swim!

This is a really nice hike in Franconia. Although the incline is steep at parts, it levels off shortly after. Definitely less strenuous than the trails up the ridge across the highway.

At the lake is a lovely dock that gives views to Franconia Ridge and Cannon. This is a great place to stop for lunch. Curious and friendly resident ducks on the lake may come up to you, but don’t feed them! They are fun to watch though.

It can get a bit muddy around the lake, but bog bridges help mitigate that.

I took the Dodge Cutoff Trail back down. It was less developed than the LL trail up. No staircases on Dodge. Less people though. I’d recommend going back down the way you came though.

Really nice hike, a good way to pass a few hours.

Hiked Green and Red trail loops. Trails pass through and over dunes. Great views of ocean and Castle Hill. Trails are well marked. Saw no wildlife and few people. Saw lots of deer tracks. Bugs we're biting.

Love this trail!! I did about 4 or 5 sunrise hikes here in July and I have nothing but good things to say about the trail and the view at the top!
There is a couple very very rocky sections but the majority is a nice dirt trail

Tough uphill, a little muddy at the top. Nice views.

This is a lovely walk around the fenced Fresh Pond reservoir. There’s a cute little dogs-only swimming area at Little Fresh Pond. Dogs are supposed to be on leash the rest of the walk, but unfortunately, most folks ignore that and let their dogs run loose. Not sure why it’s rated moderate here; the main trail is flat as a pancake and paved! A very nice walk for a day when you can’t get out of the city.

We did this with our two children age 3.5 and 5.5 y and it was a big success. The young one was in my back for the first half and then he wanted to climb on his own. It was a lot of fun. I recommend this trail for any family with minimum experience. Hiking boots are a plus since some sections are somewhat rocky.

Awesome begginer hike to get you fitted for more bigger hikes. Trail gets steep for a ways. Beautiful lake and hut. Recommend doing the full trail around the lake. Great views!

Steep climb most of the way up with many roots/rocks. Went with our kids and they made it but it was tough. Overall a great workout and many people were getting winded making it to the top. View of lonesome lake was nice with a surprisingly strong breeze to cool us off.

Even though the uphill climb was a bit rocky it was well worth the lake views at the top!

love. short but tough hike with an exceptional reward waiting for you at the top. Seeing the water sparkling through the forest was a joyful sight and swimming in the soft water felt luxurious. The walk around the lake was dense and a bit muddy but gorgeous views all around.
my dog enjoyed it too.

I was wondering why this trail was kicking my butt and then realized I gained 1000ft in half an hour! Once you get past that it’s easy, and the view is amazing.

What a beautiful hike. Hiking along the jetty and beach is surprisingly more difficult than expected. It is not a difficult hike but you do a bit more work walking on the sand than you would on a hard trail.

Hi, I was wondering is there parking?

Long steady climb but i've seen worse in the area. I would rate it moderate and worth every step. The panoramic view of Lafayette,Lincoln and Haystack was spectacular. Great for pics. The walk around the lake was so peaceful and serene. Love love loved it!

Beautiful finish. Lots of roots! Be careful.

This trail actually climbs to the top of Massaemett Mountain and the stone fire tower. (The map is incorrect. It has not been called Bald Mountain for around 100 years and at the top you will see why.) There are two new switchbacks near the bottom of the trail, currently painted with orange trail blazes. The orange trail is a less steep route, but slightly longer and connects at three points with the white tower trail. The orange trail is also a tree identification interpretive trail. This trail also connects to the Audubon's High Ledges (near the "M" in Massaemett at the end of what they show as a road) by following the Ridge Trail and also to their parking lot.

Things to consider: This trail is on a West facing slope, so it can be a hot climb on a summer afternoon. Spray for ticks. Please turn your vehicle around on Halligan Ave near the trailhead. (It is a dead end road and the neighbors at the end of the road become irritated with hikers turning around in their driveway.)

Great hike with kids ages

I loved this hike short on miles but don’t let that fool you it definitely packs a punch with its steep elevation. If was super fun, the lake is beautiful and don’t forget to pack something to swim in believe me it’s so beautiful you’ll definitely want to. Also the Hut is amazing 

Very nice hike and a good cardio workout. The view on the top was breathtaking!

Fairly easy hike but great to hike to the lake and the lodge! You can even take a swim when you get to the top!
I also recommend trying this hike in the winter!! It’s so much fun to walk across the frozen lake!! Don’t forget your micro spikes

Great trail with a vigorous hike, but the bugs were miserable even with bug spray!

Loved this trail! Beautiful 360 view on a treeless summit upon Mt Watatic. The hike up was steep to the mountain with roots, rocks, and pine straw. The second summit down was the best view. You could see everything, even Boston!

Not bad if a hike. Short, but some rocky and steep areas. The lake was so relaxing and calm, and the hut was cool too! Kinda buggy near the lake, but worth the hike.

Gorgeous walk through the dunes, up the beach with approaching low tide, and a quick climb at end to the lovely Crane Estate grounds. Dune walking is great resistance training, more strenuous that you'd expect. Bring extra water, it's quite hot and dry behind the dunes and no protection from sun until end of hike. one of my favorite beaches in New England for kite-flying btw. take one along.

Nice easy hike year round.

The elevation made it tough, but my 7 y/o daughter and I had a great time.
