Fun trail and hike with good views. It's a pretty easy hike if you do any real hiking.

Awesome trail to walk my dog! Don't see allot of ppl. Really enjoy this trail

Trail was well maintained and the folks up front checking permits were so helpful and friendly. It heated up on the way back which was close to noon in December, so bring plenty of water as they recommend. It was more or less a hike through the desert. Overall a good work out. I was told snakes were around, I didn’t see any (amen).

Beautiful view! People of all ages can do this one. It's the perfect hike as part of a day trip. Swing by Julian after for apple pie and cider.

9/10/18
I enjoyed this hike very much! Easy, fun switchbacks, well maintained trail, however lots of hikers on the weekend. Astonishing views at the top of the summit! The space at the top is very small and can get crowded quickly. My guy and I did a quick walk thru than found a quiet spot on a rock away from the crowd to enjoy our view and snack. Please be mindful to share the space at the top of the summit for others to also enjoy the beautiful view. No need for you to hang out there 20min to talk about BS as others are coming thru. And please keep your dog on a leash. Parking $10 Paso Picacho Picnic abs Campground.

Nicely managed hiking trail but will have to keep your dog on leash the entire time. Updated note that contradicts the recreation.gov website is that you do not have to bring a print out of your permit if you have the digital version. They accept digital permits, they just haven’t updated their website to reflect the change yet. Happy trails!

Highly recommend removing this trail from All Trails. The start of the road is a closed "gate." Additionally, the previous review is spot on, you go another one mile into the trail/road and get a closed gate, "No Trespassing" sign from the city of Vista. If you want the same great views and similar type of hike just go east a few miles to the PCT trailhead on S2/Montezuma Valley Road.

Best desert oasis I’ve seen in SoCal

i love the trail, it is a little bit hard but the view is amazing

Good hike and great scenic views. I could feel the oxygen start to thinner out on my way up. I shouldnt have hiked alone but no one would dare go with me especially at a high level. Be careful when climbing up the rocks as they start to be slippery with ice building up. Overall it was worth it.

Did it on 11/17 and had perfect weather!! Chilly up top, slight breeze but I still had a T-shirt on.

The first 3 miles is down hill (easy), but heading back is challenging. I recommend bringing your hiking poles. The waterfall is currently dry, but the bowl still has water. Lots of fresh animal dropping, so be alert and careful. We started at 7:15, started to warm up after that so bring plenty of water and sunblock.

I lost myself in the water at the end and loved every moment of it. The route we took was the 6 mile route: we parked, walked straight ahead, continued for just over 3 miles, walked down to the water, hung out, chilled and walked back the same way we came. This was a nice "recovery" hike after doing a more challenging one a few days prior. This was long but definitely worth it. Give yourself a few hours though because walking 6 miles takes some time! Lots of shade but there are a few points where there isn't any.

Great hike! Then head into Julian for lunch

Easy trail with beautiful scenery of the authentic palm trees. I never know palm trees looked that way without trim. Very cool. The desert oasis was also beautiful.

Good workout!!!

PERMIT REQUIRED BEFORE HIKING!
Visit RECREATION.GOV. Didn’t know about the permit but it was still a great well maintained hike! Trees were different colors and looked beautiful along hike! Loved it!!

I loveeee this hike!!!! I’m confused on why people are saying it’s not a loop cuz it is but it’s a 11 mile loop. Not 6 miles. That information is incorrect. There’s so many trails the variety is amazing it feels like all different hikes. There’s 2 trails one for hikers and trail runnings and one for bikes and cars possibly. You don’t have to really ever worry about bikes. It’s beautiful and I highly recommend it! Some parts of shaded and a lot parts aren’t. Bring a ton of water and sunscreen. Lots of fun areas! Enjoy :)

Did this trip in August. Absolutely loved it! Beautiful scenery! First backpacking experience. Camped midway which was fun and hiked to peak next day. The altitude was a new challenge, but not too hard. A wonderful getaway!

Beautiful trail. Hidden gem for sure. Except we met some people on the way back with dogs off leash and they were slaughtering a rattlesnake just because the lady said “she was afraid it was gonna bite her!!” Respect native species and step away. Don’t kill the snakes that are needed for the ecosystem to maintain itself. AND LEASH YOUR DOG!

it was a pleasant view! totally recommend it!

Easy practically flat trail. Beware lots of bike riders, some are nice enough to let you know they are coming close. Busy on the weekends. Nice waterfall at the end of the trail to refresh yourself in.

Did it on 11/17/18 very nice weather just a bit chilly at times .

A good hike up the mountain.

Beautiful place

Spectacular views. Can be hard for folks who take time in adjusting to altitude low pressure at 10k ft

Fun hike for any ages.

Excellent

Amazing views.
