This was such a fun trail with multiple beautiful overlooks at the top. Most people turn left onto the AT when they make it to the intersection and are met with a steep incline and tons of rocks, but if you curve to the right and continue onto Byron Reese, you will have a slow and much more doable incline. We did this and thought the trail was fairly easy because of it. Wear good shoes and socks! The trail is so rocky.

Have run this multiple times. Pristine views. 5 creeks and 2 waterfalls when wet. Hard run up. Fast run down! Start in the dark and hit the summit as the sun comes up!

awesome trail. had a great time with my gf and dog.

Offers a different overlook perspective of the canyon. I especially like the large boulders overlook. The sections that are near water are beautiful. If you want to see rhododendron, this is the trail you want.

Paved trail to the summit. Slightly steep but well worth the trek up for the 360 degree views.

Awesome hike!

It was a Sunday after some rainy days so the parking lot was pretty packed. But I wouldn't let that deter you. I don't really think it should be rated as difficult though. There were a lot of families and kids going the red trail so I took the yellow. It was ok. Only two inclines that got my heart rate up a little. I finished the yellow and took the orange. That one was nice. Gradual inclines and gradual declines. I saw only 2 people on the way out so it was much less trafficked than the yellow or red.

We did the West Rim loop along with Hemlock and Cherokee falls. This place has the feeling of being out west when your actually in Ga. It is a busy spot, but well worth fighting the crowds to see some once an a lifetime spots.

Was more of a walk up to the summit then a hike, nicely paved and great views from every direction. They have built this for all ages so that all can reach the highest summit on the Appalachian Trail!! There are trails to hike when you get there. Beautiful!!

The Blood Mountain portion was moderate and challenging. Great to see the lodge and the mountains all around. We came down Freeman’s loop - that part was brutal. So many rocks and roots to navigate, but we made it and will do it again. Be sure to bring more water than you think you’ll drink!

We tried to take Freeman trail but some guys said we were off trail so we turned around and took the AT trail. Lots of rocks to walk over and climb. Difficult trail but doable. It’s so worth the view at the top. I’ll be doing this again.

Great trail , wonderful time with family and friends.

Cool hiking place. End of the red trail was a little challenging because of the steep hills. However, it really worth it. After taking a lunch break, we also went for the yellow trail. Less crowded and have an awesome bridge to take a good photo.

The AT portion is fairly open but Freeman portion somewhat overgrown. Lots of rocks and fallen trees to climb over on Freeman.

Lot's of fun for an experienced hiker, made the mistake of taking my girlfriend on this trail as her first hike. Needless to say she was in over her head.

Great run. Steady climb. Just FYI my watch clocked 2100 ft elevation gain, which was a bit higher than noted above.

gets very Rocky and the trail gets narrow after rain.

Love this hike!

Beautiful views from all around. Fairly easy and paved.

Beautiful hike !

Paved trail to the summit of Mt. Mitchell, highest point in the Appalachian Mountains. Not really a hike but more of a walk to the summit. Trail is somewhat steep, but rest benches are provided at several places. Remember that the air is thin at this elevation, so you will get winded faster than usual. This is a nice option for people who cannot do one of the park's harder trails.

There are lots of rocks and boulders and roots to keep your feet and ankles and senses engaged. Coming down Freeman is good practice for moving your whole body and not just your legs to keep the momentum going. Lots of shade, lots of moisture, lots of bugs and critters and birds. Families and small groups and couples fairly common on the AT portion, solitude on the Freeman.

Great trail, some difficulty but nothing major, just watch your step!

Amazing creekside trail with waterfalls.

loved this park and trail for a day hike while in town for work

This is def a great hike and work out. When you get to the first 4 way sign there's two trails towards the right. One trail going straight towards the right of the sign (it's a dirt trail) don't go down the rocky part, we made that mistake and had to come back up and then the other trail is directly to the right of the sign. These trails loop around. Either way you go, it's a workout. Worth it! Also I found it helpful recording my hike with the app, it def came in handy when I needed direction.
