Absolutely beautiful hike and location. This was my first hike in Virginia and it did not disappoint

Our hike was cut short because of the ever fickle recent August weather. I still managed to enjoy and take beautiful photos though. My friend who goes to VTech recommended this place and I was sold immediately after I saw the photos she took this past winter season. Will definitely come back to finish the hike and see the frozen falls next year.

lovely, well maintained and shaded trail. At almost 66, over-weight and out of shape, I completed the hike. I haven't ever hiked let alone "climbed a mountain" and it definitely wasn't a "cake walk" by any means, but I did it so I imagine anyone could. The view is impressively breath-taking and well worth the hike. Parked at the trail head parking lot and the AllTrails app clocked it at 1 & 3/10ths mile. The last 10th mile was a bit steep, but worth it.

loved the veiw at the summit

My review is from the perspective of an amateur landscape photographer

This is an above average sunrise location along the BRP. The “hike” from the parking lot to the viewpoint is about 100 yards Anyone can do it unless you can’t negotiate stone steps.

There are some rocks that can be used for foreground interest but only if you are using a wide angle lens. The mountains are rather distant and I used a 28-135mm lens on a C-size sensor to highlight the mountains.

There are better sunrise landscape locations along the BRP but given the ease of getting to the viewpoint this would be a good choice for those with either limited mobility, young children or limited time.

No view on this hike during summer.

Loved this hike! a must do if you're in the area.
if you're using Google maps to get here, don't use buffalo mountain, as that will take you through a farmers property. use buffalo mountain parking lot instead. this lot can only fit about 10-15 cars. I went on a Wednesday at 3pm and it was empty. the drive up to here is a rocky road with a lock of potholes so I would suggest an SUV and to go slow because some of it is very narrow and cannot fit 2 cars.
the trail has about 4 switchbacks up the mountains. 2 miles each way. it's a gradual up. not too many rocks to climb over (and certainly not a rock scramble, contrary to another person's review). it was a moderate incline. it took us 30 min to get up.
views are gorgeous. it really is 360 degree views. they have a cute bench at the top for pictures
I think I'll bring a picnic for the top next time.

Only 1 mile each way when you park at the trailhead instead of the gravel road. There’s a parking lot there so don’t be shy about driving up. The trail is quick and rewards you with an almost-360 view.

Definitely a nice hike through the quiet woods of the Pisgah. One tiny little waterfall on the trail. Always hang a left no matter what. It was nice, but I probably wouldn’t do again.

Combined this trail and Tompkins Knob for a nice hike that was not too strenuous. The only difficult part of this trail is the stairs down to the falls. The rock steps are uneven and the hand rail has eroded or is broken in a few places so care has to be taken. Because we have had a very wet spring this year, the falls were beautiful-much nicer than some of the pictures I have seen of them taken when it was much drier. The steps lead to two viewing areas do have a substantial rock wall. Because of the sheer steepness of the falls these are not the type you would want to even attempt to wade in areas above them.. The return trail meanders along Fall Creek is lovely.

one of my all time favs if for no other reason than nostalgia.

We had a wonderful hike. We hiked on a Sunday afternoon so it was a little crowded. Overall nice hike for the family
16, 10, 8. Beautiful falls and fun swimming for the kids.

We prepared after reading reviews (especially Toby Brannan) and upgrading the AllTrails app. If you haven’t done that, I highly recommend it!

After walking through seriously overgrown trails (trails were about 6” wide because of so much growth), ending up on the gravel road was a welcome reprieve.

Our pup wasn’t happy about crossing so much water, but we loved it.

If you are looking for a private trail, this is it. We saw no one all day and it was the 4th of July!

Nice trail. Not a lot of great views but very nice out/back - up/down trail.

I used this hike to test myself and my gear prior to hiking on the Appalachian Trail. It turned out to be a nice moderate walk. I still got winded. I am after all 66 years old. However, I've tried hard over the winter to get into shape. So far my knees of held up and I'm grateful. for that. I think. the view from Barney's wall is spectacular. It is great to watch the hawks soar down below. It's gorgeous.

Very nice and pretty. Nice waterfall at the end!

Not too strenuous and only saw 2 other people in the trail on a Saturday afternoon in June. Will likely do it again just for the peacefulness

Beautiful view once you reach the summit! Nicely shaded hike.

Trail was not overly crowded, plenty of shade and trees on the entire trail, small bridges over the creek and stairs down to the top 1/3 of the waterfall. Waterfall was beautiful.

Easy loop trail with a beautiful waterfall!

Great beautiful 4 mile hike along the river. There is a upper and lower section of the falls. Lower is more narrow and adventurous and the higher is wider and straight shot.

Easy, short hike alongside a brook that's doable for anyone. Worth a go to check out the lovely falls.

this loop is 271a, 266 and 239 with some time walking the road on the north end. multiple creek crossings, may stay dry depending on the time of year. take the time to go down to the base of North harpers creek falls, it's worth it.

Great trail just not marked clearly, didn't get to complete the trail because of the confusion. it intersects with multiple trails. this was for N.harper creek falls, blaze color is yellow, then changes to blue and from I read it changes to orange after blue before completing the loop. really good camp site at the beginning of the trail, and another really awesome creek side site about 3 miles in give or take.
