What a great hike! We went counterclockwise up the trail and had shad for the majority of the hike! Beautiful views looking out over White Spar! We weighed down some backpacks and it made the hike so much more challenging!!

Great trail that is very well maintained. Winds through a few different tree types! Awesome views for a payoff. Pretty steep but nothing crazy.

We explored this trail while out from Michigan...WOW! Elevation was a surprise and it is a challenging and technical hike with rocks and roots (at least for us!) but worth every step, grab, and grunt! Coming back down easier of course but technical in a different way with some loose stone. We did the Overlook once and Fatman’s twice...a don’t miss set of trails and plenty more we didn’t get to all right there! Thanks Arizona!!

Beautiful hike and with climbing 2600 ft in 2 miles it’s a good effort. It is difficult but not as challenging as Camelback nor as technical as Flat Iron (both in the valley)! Don’t let some of the reviews scare you away!!

I took the left side up and enjoyed the challenge. There was an insane amount of ladybugs on the rocks around the bottom of the tower. Never seen anything like it. Small amount of water running in the creek.

awesome workout with incredible views

This trail is an amazing workout. You start out in pinon/juniper and then steadily climb up to ponderosa pines, firs, and lots of aspen trees at the top! It’s a tough hike but one of my favorites.

I’m a big guy sadly took me 5 hours to get to the top and 3 hours to get down. I went while it was raining but the view is amazing but coming down just dragged

Great hike! We went counter clockwise up the more gradual incline to the lookout tower and then down. There are a couple tables and a toilet at the top. It's worth going the extra distance up to the tower and reading through the journal. Besides the length and the elevation change its really a realitivley easy hike and well maintained trail that is well marked. We only came across 5 or 6 people so plenty of soltitude for being so close to town.

Excellent, easy, relatively flat trail. Terrific views the entire way. We started at 6am and finished in just over two hours walking the loop.

Closed as of 7/1/18.

Really fun ride. Lots of loose rock and steep climbs. Technical down hill.

One of few more challenging hikes in the Flagstaff area, Mount Elden trail is designed in a way that makes the mountain as brutal as possible to go up. What could have been done in a mile and a half or so, takes 2.5 miles to ascend. You'll likely notice the unnecessary switchbacks and lengthened trail around the side of the mountain that makes it feel like you're expending all this energy to go nowhere. I've done this hike several times and will do it again, but every time I do it I'm frustrated with the design of the trail. not a very good trail at all, but a decent hike nonetheless.

Have hiked it several times, a good hike . A good time .

The lack of oxygen pushes you to take it easy on the way up, step by step and breathing as if you were on a treadmill. Unless you are a Flagstaff resident and are used to the less oxygen atmosphere. The views are definitely breathtaking for sure. Go light but take water and some snacks. When you reach the summit you will be ready to eat some carbs.

please be sure to acclimate for a day or two if you are not a resident of higher elevations. made it to the top, but felt early stages of elevation sickness and immediately descended. trail is well marked and somewhat busy even at the top, cell service 95% of the way. sunscreen recommended, even with the tree coverage i was burnt through my shirt.

This trail was amazing. Shade from tree tops complicated and an amazing work out. Beautiful scenery. Highly recommend this trail.

This 2500ft incline hike will test your stamina for sure. Be careful as the trail seems to have been washed out in a few places higher up. This hike has what I call a grand staircase feature which is pretty cool. Unbelievable views at the top when you reach the towers. This hike took me just under 3 hours to complete, rests included. Passed by many other hikers on this trail as it is popular due to how close the trailhead is to Flagstaff. I recommend trekking poles for the descent, especially if you have bad ankles and knees like me.

Just hiked this trail for the first time and i really enjoyed it. Taking the right side up is definitely easier then taking the left side up. Trail was really easy to follow well maintained and marked. Not really any great views from the top but if you're into forest hiking then this is the trail for you. lots of shade. even the ridge line is really wooded. I did the entire loop in 4.5 hrs that was with several breaks and a 40lb pack. 32oz of water was plenty for me. There is parking right at the trail head with restrooms and i believe there's no fee to park. but i could be wrong. I was dropped off. But yeah it's a great hike and I'm looking forward to doing it again. Oh yeah. one more thing. the creeks were dry. (hike date 5-5-18)

Awesome trail, views towards the end of the trail were fantastic, i didn't run into even one other person through out the entire 4.5 hour hike.

Trail itself is a very easy walk. No obstacles. There are other trails which branch off on the left (towards the lake) for a more adventurous/challenging trail, which will reward you with fantastic photo opportunities.
There are benches along the trail to "take in the scenery." Def recommend taking a camera.

Easy trail, good length. We clocked it at 5.7 miles. Gorgeous views and amazing wildflowers.

We started before 8 am on a weekday. We had the trail to ourselves for the first hour. By the time we were finishing the loop we were stepping aside for mountain bikes every few minutes.

Felt pretty decent until the mountain greeted us. Steep and semi technical but very enjoyable. Hard is accurate but there is plenty of area to throttle down and rest.

fantastic trail.some elevation, lots of trees and shade.

one of my favorite trails. the first mile and a quarter or so is in a wash then up a jeep trail. if you have a good 4x4 you could bypass this part. the actual climb starts easier and then gets continually steeper all the way to the saddle. from the saddle on up it gets delightfully rough, many parts are hand and feet climbing. be careful near the top there are two routes. today I tried the less exposed one and it was a class 5 climb for a short section, view from the top is worth it though.

Gorgeous trail up Spruce Mt! Started at 7am and it was very peaceful. Birds singing their morning songs and the sun rising over the mt. Saw a lot of deer hanging out, some right in the middle of the trail. The weather was perfect! One of my favorites so far for sure!

This is my favorite hike in the Prescott area. I've done the out and back to the top of Spruce Mountain but I enjoyed this loop even more. Saw about 10 deer running through the forest. This was in the afternoon. Started about 10 a.m. Weather was great. Love all the pine trees, the great smells and listening to the wind through the trees and, of course, the spectacular view at the top. Will do this one again and again.

Fabulous hiking. For older not in great hiking shape people like me, it was a bit of a challenge. Somehow went the wrong way right from the beginning and wound up hiking 2 miles out of our way. Understand now counter-clockwise is definitely the harder way. Was a little disappointed watch tower at top of mountain was closed. Must not be open on weekends. One more thing - I think the All Trails directions get you to trail 377. Trail. Trail 307 (Grooms) is at the 6.5 mile mark from Gurley St.

Great desert hike with elevation. Cactus flowers are in bloom. Beautiful view at the top!

We hiked it last week, we were visiting and not used to the higher elevation so we huffed and puffed a bit on this one despite being fit runners. Our dogs accompanied us on the hike and enjoyed it as well. A little snow and wind at the top but a beautiful view of the city! We went at 9am on a Wednesday and pretty much had the trial to ourselves.
