10.7 miles? Maybe around 16 according to mile marker signs

This was such a fun trail with multiple beautiful overlooks at the top. Most people turn left onto the AT when they make it to the intersection and are met with a steep incline and tons of rocks, but if you curve to the right and continue onto Byron Reese, you will have a slow and much more doable incline. We did this and thought the trail was fairly easy because of it. Wear good shoes and socks! The trail is so rocky.

enjoyable hike to the falls. the trail to the top is a workout.

awesome trail with great views. not to strenuous until the last climb to the waterfall. worth the climb.

Fantastic views, worth the climb. Starts off flat, becomes very rocky and steep with lots of roots. Loved it!!!

Did this rocky hike with the best friend and pup! Spray yourself with bug spray prior. The trail was lined with the river/creek almost the whole entire way up, and there were multiple bridges on the hike that let you take in the views. 10/10 would recommend!! It took us about 3 hours and 15 mins but we hung out at the waterfall for an hour.

Started around 0800 yesterday morning and had some slippery/muddy trails during the first half mile or so then it dried up. Got to the scenic outlook 2 hrs later. Beautiful views!!! Definitely worth the hike. There were a few tricky parts in places that required hands to climb up but overall it was a lightly strenuous and very rewarding hike. Definitely recommend!!!

Well marked trail. Strenuous at times - but worth the view of the falls once you arrive.

Only downfall was having to wait 30 min to even get into the park due to it being at capacity.

Strenuous hike but definitely worth the beautiful views once you reach the top! Feels like you’re on top of the world:)
Like others have mentioned, bring plenty of water to help stay hydrated!
Finished the hike with an immense sense of accomplishment

Loved the hike! Definitely hard going up but the views are worth it! Take plenty of water! I would hike it again in a heart beat! Lots of steps. Amazing that the trail was created by the CCC back in the 30’s.

Nice, peaceful trail. Saw a small bear by the parking lot.

Arrived at the trailhead by 8:15 on a Friday morning. I came after several days of heavy rain and definitely had to navigate some muddy spots. But it was well worth it. The river was roaring and the falls were awesome. I didn’t come across anybody until on my way back out. Finished and back to the car by 10:15. I thought this a relatively easy hike until the end where you do see more elevation gain. For anybody hesitant to go on this trail you do come across several falls early on and could definitely turn around sooner and would still be satisfied. Followed it up with a trip to Dukes Creek Falls and then some wine tasting in Helen. Lovely North GA day trip.

Nice hike but more crowded than I would like on a weekend. Mid June and the rhodedendrons were just starting to bloom at the start of the trail. Almost no blooms yet higher up. The mushroom and fungus diversity was spectacular.

Very good trail. Had lots of water on trails that made some of the rock climbs very slick but was overall great. Carry plenty of water.

Hiked this with my kids on a hot summer afternoon. It's an interesting hike with lots of different views. The lower section along the river is woodsy and pretty traveling along the river. Then you go uphill (and more uphill) giving you some expansive mountain views and some interesting giant rock faces. The falls are beautiful, but when we got to the top we heard music...large group of middle school age campers blaring not-so-great music and hanging out. Still worth it though. It's a heck of a lot quicker getting back to the bottom than making the climb!

Last thing i forgot to mention to the right of the finale overlook there is a waterfall on the side of the moutain.

Fun hike. I felt it was arduous but a beautiful view. Definitely need 2-3 L of water and snacks are worthwhile. ☺️

Easy simple and beautiful

The Blood Mountain portion was moderate and challenging. Great to see the lodge and the mountains all around. We came down Freeman’s loop - that part was brutal. So many rocks and roots to navigate, but we made it and will do it again. Be sure to bring more water than you think you’ll drink!

Very fun and great views. Honestly it was not as difficult as expected. I even saw a 6 year old hike to the top. Just a warning once you get to the sumit you must keep walking to get the best most amazing view of the trail. The trail very fun though and had several waterfalls at the beginning you can swim in after the long hike. I highly recommend to taking a few hours and trying it but bring large amouts of water i saw at least 5 groups unable to make it because they ran out by governors rock.

problem is...... they do not open the park until 9AM!

We tried to take Freeman trail but some guys said we were off trail so we turned around and took the AT trail. Lots of rocks to walk over and climb. Difficult trail but doable. It’s so worth the view at the top. I’ll be doing this again.

This Hike was amazing and difficult but the views were stunning.

I did this trail today for the second time. It was the first time for my dog and a friend who came along. All three of us definitely felt the difficulty of scrambling over boulders and rock stairs, but that was part of the fun of it. Trekking poles help, I wouldn’t do it without them. It’s a beautiful trail, with a lot of variety of terrain, and will certainly give you a work out.

Awesome hike with an amazing waterfall at the end. You might have to wait an hour in front of the park because of limited parking spaces. You can spend that time talking to the park rangers about the hike options. After walking around 1 mile from the parking, you will reach an inter section from where the trail divides into two part. The right red trail is the rainbow falls trail. If you take the left blue one, you can go to jones gap falls about a mile ahead. The rainbow falls hike is moderate in the first half, then will get a little hard and the last stretch will get easy. Will not recommend small children as there are too many big rocks and then can hurt themselves. Also the steep incline in the middle can be difficult for the small children.Overall the hike is good and the waterfall at the end is refreshing!!

Great trail , wonderful time with family and friends.

Make no mistake, this trail is very, very intense. Very.

Great trail, but there is not a sign for the trail. you must first begin on another trail that forks in two directions, continue on the right to reach the falls.
Challenging hike with uneven terrain, but worth it in the end. It took me about 2 hours to complete with a few short breaks on the way up.
This trail ended up being a little bit over 5 miles, not 4.3 like this app says.

We completed this trail 7/23/18. Trail was cool and shaded all the way through. Incline was gradual for the most part until the end when it gets pretty steep. I thought the terrain was quite challenging for a moderate trail. You definitely need to watch your step in some places especially when wet and muddy. There are some great overnight camping areas along the stream. Hiking time for our group was 90 mins in and 90 mins out. We spent about 30 mins hanging around the waterfall at the end enjoying the nice cool water. So 3.5 hours total. Our group consisted of me and my wife, late 40s and our 15-year old daughter and friends ages 15-17. The teens really enjoyed the trail. Good fun overall.

Pretty nice hike that is mildly strenuous especially the first couple miles. Factor in extra time for weather as it poured down rain the whole time we were there but still so worth it
